“The wicked plots against the righteous
And gnashes at him with his teeth.
The Lord laughs at him,
For He sees his day is coming.
The wicked have drawn the sword and bent their bow
To cast down the afflicted and the needy,
To slay those who are upright in conduct.
Their sword will enter their own heart,
And their bows will be broken.” (Psalm 37:12-15 NASB1995)
We do not live in a perfect world. We live in a world where
both good and evil exist, and where it appears as though evil is gaining much
ground over the righteous, and where Christian persecution is increasing. And
this is happening in many different ways. For “the wicked” include many who
profess faith in Jesus Christ but who have not bowed the knee to God in
surrender to his will and purpose for our lives. So, regardless of what God’s
word teaches, they chart their own course, and they go their own way.
And who are the righteous? According to the Scriptures they
are all who have died with Christ to sin and who have been raised with Christ
to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin, but as
slaves to God and to his righteousness. They no longer make sin their practice,
but now righteousness and obedience to God are what they practice, by the grace
of God, and in the power of God, by God-gifted and God-persuaded faith in the
Lord Jesus, which is of God and not of their own flesh. God gets the glory!
[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 10:27-30; Acts
26:18; Romans 2:6-8; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22;
Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews
12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:3-6; 1 John 3:4-10]
But that does not make the righteous absolutely perfect in
every respect, for we are all still clay in the hands of the Potter being
molded by God into the image of his Son Jesus Christ, who is God the Son. But
what divides the wicked from the righteous is that the wicked have not bowed
the knee to God in surrender to his will, but they have continued to walk in
sin, in disobedience to God, and to refuse to surrender their lives to the
Lord. But the righteous have died to sin and are now walking in obedience to
God.
Therefore, the wicked include many who profess faith in
Jesus Christ with their lips but whose hearts are far from God. And some of
them are coming against those who God regards as the righteous. And one of the
ways in which they are doing this is by teaching a false gospel message which
goes against the gospel taught in the New Testament (in context), which is
leading many people astray, and which is coming against the righteous and
attacking them and accusing them of teaching what is false.
So, they are painting the truly righteous, in the eyes of
God, as the enemy, while they are painting themselves as the truly loving and
kind of the world who care about people and who do not judge people, but who
accept all people right where they are, regardless of how they live. But it is
not love to give you permission to keep on in your sin and to not require that
you obey God with your life, for that will send you to hell. It is love to
confront you in your sin, and to call you to repentance and to obedience to our
Lord God.
And some of the wicked are looking for any way possible to
accuse the righteous of wrongdoing, and so they attack them publicly, and they
lie about them, and they twist the truth of the Scriptures to their own benefit
to try to make themselves look good while they attempt to make the righteous
(in the eyes of God) look bad. Or they will try to tempt the righteous to sin
against God and to turn away from the Lord and to do evil, hoping that they
will then have just cause to accuse the righteous of doing evil.
For many are enemies of God, in truth, by how they live, and
by how they treat others, regardless of what they may profess with their lips.
And their goal is to destroy the truly righteous (in the eyes of God) in any
which way they can, to silence them, and to keep them from speaking the truth
of God’s Word to the people, and in order to turn others against them. And so
they lie, they betray, they plot evil, they deceive, and they trick others into
believing their lies and into rejecting the truth and those who speak truth.

Bombs are bursting.
Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is
gently calling
You to follow Him in
all ways.
Trust Him with your
life today.
Make Him your Lord
and your Savior.
Turn from your sin.
Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you
of your sin;
Cleanse your heart,
made new within.
Men betraying: Our
trust fraying.
On our knees to God
we’re praying,
Seeking God to give
us answers
That are only found
in Him.
God is sovereign
over all things.
Nothing from His
mind escaping.
He has all things
under His command,
And will work all
for good.
Jesus Christ is
gently calling
You to follow Him in
all ways.
Men deceiving: We’re
believing
In our Lord, and
interceding
For our nation and
its people
To obey their God
today.
He is our hope for
our future.
For our wounds He
offers suture.
He is all we need
for this life.
