Proverbs 14 Select Verses NASB1995
16 A wise man is cautious and turns away from evil,
But a fool is arrogant and careless.
25 A truthful witness saves lives,
But he who utters lies is treacherous.
26 In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence,
And his children will have refuge.
27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,
That one may avoid the snares of death.
33 Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding,
But in the hearts of fools it is made known.
34 Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a disgrace to any people.
35 The king’s favor is toward a servant who acts wisely,
But his anger is toward him who acts shamefully.
If we are wise, we are cautious people who don’t believe
everything that we hear or read or think that we see, but we are people who
test everything against the teachings of the Scriptures (in the appropriate
context), and in prayer, who seek the wisdom of God to separate truth from lies,
and liars from truth tellers. And we are those who turn away from evil, and who
seek after righteousness and godliness and obedience to God and to his will.
And we are truth tellers who don’t lie to people
deliberately and habitually to deceive them or to trick them, but who tell them
the truth that they need to hear, which is for their good and for their
salvation from bondage to sin so that they can now serve and obey Jesus Christ
with their lives. We will not be those who alter the truth to make it less
offensive to the ungodly and more acceptable and appealing to human flesh, so
people will like us.
But we will speak the truth that we know and understand, in
love, because we love God, and because we love people. But this doesn’t mean
that we will always get everything right. Yet we should be serious students of
the Scriptures, who study them in the correct context, and who compare Scripture
with Scripture to make certain, as much as possible, that what we are sharing
with others is the absolute truth and not the lies so popularized.
And we should be those who are being led of the Spirit in
what to say to the people so that we have the mind and heart of God in what we
are sharing, and that what we are sharing is not coming from our own flesh. We
are to be diligent to present ourselves approved to God as workmen and women
who do not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth (see 2
Timothy 2:15), to the best of our understanding, as seekers of truth.
We are also to be those who walk (in conduct, in practice)
in the fear of the Lord, in honoring God for who he is, in biblical worship of
him, in obedience to his commands, in reverence, respect, and in honest faith
in what his word teaches, that it is the truth, and that what God says, he will
do. And please know that all of God’s promises have conditions, the main one
being that we must obey his commands. If we don’t obey God, we forfeit his
promises.
For the foolish are arrogant and careless, so they don’t
make wise choices, but they make choices according to the lusts of the flesh
and of the eyes, and of the pride of life. And among them are the adulterous
who cheat on their spouses, some of whom will then use trickery on their
spouses hoping to catch them in some kind of trap, perhaps as a means to then
excuse away their own wrongdoing and/or to give them an excuse to dump their
spouses.
And some of them may get away with their foolishness and
their trickery and deceitful scheming, for a time, but not for forever. They
will have to stand before God one day and to give an account of what they did
with their lives. And some of them will claim things they did in the name of
Jesus, but he will respond to them with, “I never knew you. Depart from me you
workers of lawlessness,” for they refused to bow in submission and obedience to
God.

Should I Not Preach Jesus

Christ’s Free Servant, Sue J Love
Woe to me should I
not preach Jesus.
I’m compelled to
preach the full gospel.
I make myself a
slave to ev’ryone
To win their hearts
to Christ.
All this I do for my
Lord Jesus,
And for the sake of
His Name;
Do it for the sake
of His gospel,
So that I, its
blessings gain.
Scripture notates
the sins of others;
Written down for us
as examples
To keep us from
setting our hearts
On evil as did those
of old.
Do not worship other
gods of man;
Do not give your
hearts to them;
Not partake in
immorality.
Do not test your
Lord and King.
So, be careful if
you think you are
Standing firm in your faith in Jesus.
God has given his
word to warn us,
So through faith we
will not fall.
No temptation has
o’ertaken you
Except what is
commonplace.
God is faithful to
not let you be
Tempted past what
you can bear.
He gives the way of
escape.
