Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

With Jesus or Against Him?

Jesus Christ said, “He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters.” (Matthew 12:30 NASB1995)

What does it mean (or look like) to be with Christ? It means that we are on his side, in agreement with him, and supportive of his teachings. We are in relationship with him via faith in Jesus Christ which results in us denying self, dying to sin, and following him in obedience to his commands. We are his followers doing what he commands, as a matter of life practice. And we are his servants and his messengers doing his bidding in taking the true message of the gospel of Christ to the people of the world for their salvation.

Our lives are committed to him and to his service to be who he created us to be, to go where he sends us, and to say what he gives us to say to the people, regardless of how we get treated in return, and even if we are persecuted for speaking the truth. For we are standing against the devil and against injustice, deception, false gospels, immorality, and the like. And we are standing for truth, righteousness, godliness, moral purity, uprightness, honesty, faithfulness, and obedience to our Lord and to his commands.

So, those who are not with Christ are those who are against him, not for him. Their lives are not surrendered to the Lord to walk in his ways and to do as he commands. But they are still living to please the flesh and not God, still wanting to keep on in their sinful practices and to not follow Christ in walks of righteousness and in moral purity. Or they are like the Laodiceans who were neither on fire for Christ nor totally against him, but who were lukewarm, and so he was about ready to spit them out of his mouth.

For we cannot remain neutral about our faith in Christ. We cannot make a profession of him as “Lord” (Owner-Master) of our lives and then walk off and keep living for self while going through religious practices to make it look like we are serving him with our lives. For the Scriptures make it clear that faith in Jesus Christ, if it is genuine, must result in us dying to sin and walking (in conduct) in obedience to our Lord’s commands, in practice, although not necessarily in absolute perfection. For faith = obedience.

So, if all we are doing is going through the motions of religious practice, but while we continue in deliberate and habitual sin, and not in walks of obedience to our Lord’s commands, then we are against Jesus, not for him. And if we are neutral in our walks of faith so that we are not actively sharing the message of the gospel of Christ with the people on the planet earth, out of fear of rejection and persecution, then we are not working for the Lord but we are living for ourselves and for our own comfort and pleasure.

Therefore, we cannot just make a profession of faith in Jesus, and then attend weekly religious services, but then live however we want, doing whatever brings us pleasure. We need to be those who are standing on the truth and righteousness, in practice, and who are speaking the truth of the gospel to the people for their salvation from sin and for their eternal life with God. Thus, we must be willing to suffer for the sake of the gospel and even to be falsely accused of wrong doing because we speak the gospel truth.

As the Deer

By Martin J. Nystrom

Based off Psalm 42:1

As the deer panteth for the water

So my soul longeth after You

You alone are my heart's desire

And I long to worship You

You alone are my strength, my shield

To You alone may my spirit yield

You alone are my heart's desire

And I long to worship You

With Jesus or Against Him?

An Original Work / April 30, 2026

Woe To You America, Pt 2

“At that time Jesus said, ‘I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight.’” (Matthew 11:25-26 NASB1995)

What are “these things” being referred to here? Jesus was speaking of a generation which did not respect and honor the Lord and his messengers, but who found fault with them because they did not do things the way that they wanted them to be done. For they did not follow the ways of the world and of the society and culture around them, but they followed the ways of the Lord, instead. And so they were odd balls who ended up being mocked and criticized rather than honored for being true servants of our God.

And then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his miracles were done, because they did not repent. They did not turn from their sinful ways, and they did not honor and obey God. And so he warned them that on the day of judgment that their punishment would be greater than that of Sodom and Tyre and Sidon, because they were given so much more and yet they did not turn from their sins to follow Jesus in walks of obedience to his commands in holy living, as they ought to have done, since given so much!

And I believe that today the Lord is giving the same message to the nation of the United States of America. We, as a nation, have been given so much in the way of material possessions and opportunities and freedoms that so many other nations and peoples do not have. We have Bibles all over America, and we have Christian radio and television and internet sites where we can read or hear the Scriptures and be taught by people who know Christ and who are teaching the true gospel, but who are in the minority.

Now we do have a lot of people teaching the Scriptures here in America, but the majority of them appear to be those who are diluting and altering the gospel message in order to make it less offensive and more attractive to the ungodly of this sinful world. It seems that the majority are like the people that Jesus faced who accused him falsely of what he did not do just because he didn’t join in with them in doing things their way according to their culture and what appeases human flesh. So he was an oddball to them.

And if we follow the ways of Jesus that he taught and exemplified, and so we live to obey God and to do his will, and we reject sinful patterns of behavior, and so we live and teach the gospel that he taught, and not the “gospel” that appeases human flesh, then we will most likely be treated as oddballs, too. And we may be called teachers of “works salvation” or “legalists” lacking in genuine love and compassion. And some of the institutional “churches” may invite us to leave because they were warned about people like us with “strong convictions.” For we do not blend in with the world and its culture.

So, we are the “infants,” so to speak, because we are those who believe God and the teachings of the Scriptures and who follow him in his ways and who do not compromise with the world and with our culture in order to “fit in.” This does not make us perfect people, but we are those who believe the Scriptures, taught in the correct biblical context, and whose goal it is to obey God rather than to do what pleases human flesh. But we are also the discarded and the “throw aways” because we don’t live like the world does.

But because of our trust in the Lord and in his word, and because we don’t compromise with the world to be accepted, but we believe God, the Lord then reveals his Word and his will to us, for our hearts and our minds are receptive to his truths. But for those who live to please the flesh and the world and not God, their hearts and minds are not receptive to the truth of the Scriptures but they prefer the lies, instead. And this seems to be the majority which are living worldly lives while the minority follow our Lord.

So, this is also a warning to the USA of the judgments of God on our nation, for our nation, as a nation, proclaims to be one nation under the one true God, and for whom Christianity is the predominant faith of choice. Yet so many profess Jesus with their lips, but their hearts are far from God, for they live like the world for worldly pleasures rather than to please God with their lives. And so many of our leaders are proclaiming faith in Jesus while they live in hypocrisy doing all sorts of evil to the people of the world.

Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead.

Your God awaits you to do what

He says to you.

Be not conformed to your selfish will.

Trust in the Lord. Do what He says.

He will give you victory.

Do not walk in darkness;

Come into the light of love.

Listen to your Savior calling

You to obey all His teachings.

Repent of your sin, and

Christ will shine His love on you.

He waits patiently for you to

Heed His whispers to your heart.

Will you hasten to obey Him;

Not from Him depart?

Live your life from this day forward,

Walking in His love and mercy.

Let Him cleanse you of all your sins.

Dwell with Him today.

Do not insult God’s grace to you.

Do not make light of your sin.

Let the light of His truth come

And free you from within.

Woe To You America, Pt 1

“Then He began to denounce the cities in which most of His miracles were done, because they did not repent. ‘Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. Nevertheless I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You will descend to Hades; for if the miracles had occurred in Sodom which occurred in you, it would have remained to this day. Nevertheless I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you.’” (Matthew 11:20-24 NASB1995)

When I Was Deceived

I have lived as a citizen of the United States of America from birth, and I am now 76 years old. From early childhood on up I was taught that my nation was a Christian nation, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. And we were taught to pledge (vow) our allegiance (fidelity) to our government and to honor our military as our heroes who save us from the “bad guys” of the world. And we were taught to sing patriotic songs of government worship – all this in the church and in our public schools.

So, I did what I was told to do, no questions asked. I believed that our government was who they claimed to be, doing what they claimed to be doing, and that political right and political left really existed. I also believed that the political right was mainly Christians while the left was mainly non-Christians. So I thought I was honoring God by voting for the political right, and I thought I was voting for leaders who were Christians and who were following God with their lives, for this was the impression I was given.

I also believed the news media, that whatever they said happened really happened like they said it did. I never considered that they might be lying to us, the people. And I believed the history of the USA as it was taught to us in our public schools. I believed what my pastors taught, too, that it was the truth of what the Scriptures teach. But I did begin to question some of that in my late 20’s when I started to be a more serious student of the Scriptures, and I could begin to see some of the contradictions taught me.

But even as late as the year 2000, during the presidential elections, I was convinced that George W. Bush was the “good guy” and that Al Gore was the “bad guy.” So, when they had the “hanging chads,” with regard to recounting the votes in Florida, I believe it was, I was even praying to God for GW Bush to win and for Al Gore to lose. So, when GW Bush won the election, I was elated, and I was probably thanking God for it. I think I may have even cried, I was so happy that the “good guy” won and that the “bad guy” lost.

My Eyes Being Opened

But four years later, in 2004, the Lord began to open my eyes to seeing an entirely different picture of the US government, of our presidents, and of our congress. And he led me to begin reading about the history of my nation and its symbols and its buildings and its idols of worship. And this is when the internet was still pretty wide open and not so much controlled as it is today. And the Lord kept putting in my mind the names of people and of nations and of people groups that previously I had no knowledge of whatsoever.

And so I did the homework, and I began reading about all the things the Lord was leading me to read about. But let me state here that I am not much of a reader, although I am much more so today than I was back then, or before that. I always had and still have some reading comprehension difficulties, and I am a slow reader, and I graduated high school with a 1.4 GPA. But in 2002 the Lord sent me back to school and he taught me that I could learn if I would just trust him to help me. So I learned I could learn.

Otherwise, I would never have tackled all the reading and all the subjects he started me reading. For he was having me read about science, history, geography, and government, etc., which were subjects I was horrible at when I was in high school. And he was introducing me to so many different factions of government, locally and globally, and to the groups they all were a part of, and what kinds of things they were all involved in, which included Satanic rituals, child abuse, theft, deceit, and global terrorism and coups.

And I soon learned that the USA government are the “bad guys” taking over other nations, stealing their natural resources, burning down their buildings, and raping and killing their people. Our government is the world’s worst terrorist organization, and they create other terrorist organizations, training and equipping them to do their dirty work so that it looks like the US is fighting the terrorists, but they are the terrorists. They are the “harlot” who rides the beast, i.e. the wealthy and powerful who are ruling the world.

So they create all kinds of “False Flag” operations to make it look like other “terrorists” are coming against us just so they have an excuse to go into other nations, to go to war with them, and to take over their nations, to steal from them, and to murder their people. And some of those operations included the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the destruction of the world trade center buildings on 911, and weather manipulation in order to conquer parts of America and their natural resources that they want possession of, etc.

And most of this you will not learn about if what you read or listen to or watch is government controlled media, or media controlled by the wealthy and powerful of the world who are bringing all of us into a New World Order. And even some of the supposed “independent media” are still controlled by the government and/or by the wealthy who run the world. They might tell us some of the truth the mainstream media does not report, but it might still be filtered by the people who run the world. But there are other options.

For us Christians, if we want the truth, the main thing we need to do is to pray for God to reveal the truth to us and to expose to us the lies which we are believing. For so many of us were brainwashed from birth on up. And then we should pray to the Lord to lead us to media outlets which are not beholding to the wealthy and powerful of the world but which will tell us the unadulterated truth about the USA government and their crooked dealings throughout the world. And our trust needs to be in God, and not in man.

Seeking God to give us answers

That are only found in Him.

Nothing from His mind escaping.

He has all things under His command,

And will work all for good.

Jesus Christ is gently calling

You to follow Him in all ways.

Men deceiving: We’re believing

In our Lord, and interceding

For our nation and its people

To obey their God today.

If This, Then That

“Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 10:32-33 NASB1995)

Please understand here that to confess Jesus/God before other humans is not just words spoken. For this word “confess” means to “speak to the same conclusion as; to be in full agreement with; to align with.” So this has to do with us aligning with, agreeing with, and coming to the same conclusion as God/Christ Jesus, but not only about who Jesus is and what he did for us on that cross, but about our sins and our need to die with him to sin and to now obey him and his commands in practice, by his grace, in his power.

For to deny Christ is not just about lip service, either. For there are many people who give lip service to Christ/God but who deny him by their actions, by their thinking, by their attitudes, and by continuing to live in sinful addiction without genuine repentance and a change (transformation) of heart and mind away from sin to walks of faith in obedience to our Lord. So we must align with Christ in how we live and we must not deny him by our behaviors if we want to be saved and have eternal life with God in heaven.

[Matthew 7:21-23; Luke 9:23-26; Romans 6:1-23; 1 John 1, 2, & 3]

“Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household.” (Matthew 10:34-36 NASB1995)

What was the meaning of Jesus’ words here? Well, first of all, how was Jesus generally treated? He was loved by some, but hated by the many. He was followed by many for awhile because of the miracles he performed, and because he fed them and healed their diseases. But the majority rejected him, and they rejected his gospel message and what he required of them, for they thought his teaching was too hard. And many in authority opposed him and persecuted him and mistreated him because of who he was.

So, Jesus’ message to us who are his followers is that, as they treated Jesus, so will they treat us. For, some of his enemies were members of his own household who thought he was crazy and who wanted to put him away. His most severe critics were the religious leaders in the temple who tried regularly to trip him up with his words, hoping to have cause to accuse him of wrong he did not do. So the point here is that, if we follow Jesus with our lives, in obedience to his commands, we will be treated like he was.

[Matthew 5:10-12; Matthew 10:16-39; Matthew 24:9-14; Luke 6:22-23; Luke 12:49-53; Luke 21:12-17; John 15:18-21; 2 Corinthians 12:7-10; Ephesians 6:10-20; Romans 5:3-5; Revelation 6:9-11; Revelation 7:9-17; Revelation 11:1-3; Revelation 12:17; Revelation 13:1-18; Revelation 14:1-13]

“He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:37-39 NASB1995; see also Luke 9:23-26)

We who follow Jesus Christ with our lives are not to put any human being, no matter who they are, above God in priority in our lives. We are not to let any other human being influence us to disobey God and to not follow in his ways or to reject his calling on our lives. Now, when we are children, we must obey our parents, but we are not to obey sin. We can say “no” to sin. And the same applies for married women. We do not have to obey sin if our husband requires us to obey sin. We can say “no” to all sin always!

And Jesus taught that to come after him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin and to self) and follow him in surrender to his will in obedience to his commands. For if sin is what we obey, and not God and his commands, then we do not have life in him. So, if we hold on to our old lives of living in sin and for self, we will lose them for eternity. But if for Jesus’ sake we deny self, die to sin, and obey his commands, in practice, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. We find our lives in Christ.

[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:1-6; 1 John 3:4-10; Acts 26:18]

Do Not Fear Them

“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master. It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign the members of his household!” (Matthew 10:24-25 NASB1995)

If we who confess Jesus as Lord are true followers of Christ, we should not expect to be treated better than he was treated. We should willingly share in the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming like him in his death (Philippians 3:11). And this engages us in denying self, dying to sin daily, and walking in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in practice, although not necessarily in absolute perfection. And this engages us in sharing the truth of the gospel with the people even if they hate us and reject us in return.

For Jesus Christ was not a people pleaser. He did not back down on the truths of the gospel message so that people would like him and approve of him. He did not say all the fluffy feel-good stuff that pacified human flesh. Jesus spoke the truth in love to the people even if they hated him, lied about him, tried to trip him up with his words, and accused him falsely of what he did not do and of being who he was not. Therefore, he got right down to the “nitty-gritty.” And he did not “mince words” in order to not offend the people.

In other words, he did not “beat around the bush.” He did not speak in a way that was vague, with excessive caution to avoid offending other people. He did not withhold the full truth in order to spare people’s feelings. He spoke with much directness and honesty because it is the truth that sets people free, not the lies which are so popularized today. He focused on information which was vital to people’s salvation from sin and their eternal life with God. For the truth is what we need to hear if we are going to have true salvation.

See Matthew 10:24-28; Matthew 7:21-23; Luke 9:23-26; Romans 6:1-23

“Therefore do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops. Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:26-28 NASB1995)

So, if we follow his example in speaking like he spoke, and in giving out the message of the gospel like he did, in the appropriate biblical context, we should expect to be treated like he was treated, and by the same kinds of people, too. For who were Jesus’ fiercest and most aggressive opponents? They were the religious. They were those who professed faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who in reality is Father, Son Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit. And they were preachers and teachers of the Scriptures.

And so it should not surprise us if we are opposed by others who call themselves “Christians” and/or who serve in positions of pastors and elders and evangelists within the “Christian church.” For so many of them are now following the ways of the flesh and marketing schemes and tricks for how to attract the world to their gatherings. And so many of them are being trained to get rid of people like me who teach the truth that Jesus and his New Testament apostles taught as the gospel of our salvation.

So, if you are truly following the example of Jesus, and if you are truly teaching what he taught as the gospel, in the correct biblical context, don’t be surprised if you are treated like Jesus’ opponents treated him. But do not fear them or what they do to you or say to you or about you. Just keep sharing the truths of the Scriptures, in the right context. Keep following the leading of the Holy Spirit in what to say and when to say it and to whom to say it, and do not fear what other people might do to you. Obey God!

Do not let the opinions of other humans and their treatment of you keep you from obeying God and his word. Do not let their pressure to conform to their image intimidate you into forsaking the Lord for the approval of other humans. But walk in the fear (respect, honor) of God and obey his commands, and walk in his ways. For Jesus said that to come after him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin and to self) and follow (obey) him if we want to have salvation and eternal life with God.

[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 1:18-32; Romans 2:5-10; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10,19-20; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; 2 Corinthians 5:10,15,21; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 4:1-13; Hebrews 10:19-39; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:1-6; 1 John 3:4-10; Revelation 2:1-29; Revelation 3:1-22]

But beware of men, for they will hand you over to the courts and scourge you in their synagogues; and you will even be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. But when they hand you over, do not worry about how or what you are to say; for it will be given you in that hour what you are to say. For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.” (Matthew 10:16-20 NASB1995)

Now, these were Jesus’ specific instructions to his twelve disciples on a particular day in biblical history. And yet, they coordinate with many teachings throughout the New Testament, especially regarding the last days before the return of Christ and what we can expect to take place if we are genuine followers of Jesus Christ, doing his will. For we are promised that we will be hated and persecuted and falsely accused of wrong doing, and falsely imprisoned, and lied about by those who are heads of religious institutions.

For in our world today, well in the USA, anyway, “the church” is rarely being treated as the biblical body of Christ comprised of followers of Jesus Christ who are actively doing the will of God. But “the church” has largely been turned into institutions of human origin being marketed to the people of the world. And so their gatherings are often geared toward attracting the people of the world to their gatherings. And so many of them alter the gospel message and the meaning of “church” to make “the church” like the world.

So, if you are someone who is a serious student of the Scriptures, and who is serious about God’s calling on your life, and so you are sincere about your walk of faith in obedience to your Lord, and so you are also sharing with others what Jesus and his apostles taught as the gospel message, you should expect to be opposed even by pastors of “churches” who are being talked into diluting the gospel message to make it more acceptable and less offensive to human flesh. For these “wolves” do exist within “the churches.”

But we should not let their mistreatment of us discourage us from continuing to share the truth of what the Scriptures teach on many subjects taught in their correct biblical context. We should keep speaking the truth of God’s Word to the people regardless of how we are treated in return. For it is the truth which saves human lives, not the “feel-good” messages which lie to the people and which coddle them in their sins rather than lead them to true repentance and walks of obedience to God’s commands in surrender to God.

And if we are writing and posting on the internet, we need to realize that we will not only be opposed by others who call themselves “Christians,” but we will possibly be opposed by robots (AI – artificial intelligence) and by people whose goal it is to get on internet forums for the full purpose to stir up controversy and to get dedicated servants of the Lord to back down and to give up. For just like Jesus’ enemies tried to trip him up with his words, we will have people (or AI) who will try to trick us into accepting lies.

This is the part that I believe is critically important for us to understand. We don’t have to worry about what we will say when those times come. If we are resting in the Lord, and we are trusting in his word, the Holy Spirit living within us will give us the words to say. We must rely on the Lord to give us the right responses, and not get upset and jump ahead of God and end up saying things we will later regret. For the goal of our enemy is to get us to “blow it” so he will have cause to accuse us of wrong. So trust the Lord!

Why Are You Afraid?

Based off Various Scriptures

An Original Work / December 5, 2013

Christ’s Free Servant, Sue J Love

Do not be afraid.

Your Lord is always by your side.

Serve the Lord in righteousness

Before Him all your days.

Those who hate the light

Will not come to the Lord.

They fear their deeds

Might be noticed.

So, they hate the light,

And they embrace the night.

Do not be afraid,

Although your enemy attacks.

Dare to share your testimony

Of God’s saving grace.

Do not fear their threats,

But honor Christ, your Lord.

Be prepared to give an answer

For the hope you have,

With gentleness; respect.

Why are you afraid?

For all that’s hidden will be shown.

What I tell you, speak in daylight.

Let the truth be known.

Do not be afraid

Of those who’ll take your life.

Fear the Lord with understanding.

Trust Him with your life,

And give not up to strife.

Do not be afraid.

Take courage, it is I, your Lord.

Bow before Me; now adore Me.

Oh, why do you doubt?

Listen to the Lord.

Get up and bear His name!

Run and tell the world He loves them.

Jesus came to save.

Give Him your all today.

Like Sheep Without a Shepherd

“Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.’” (Matthew 9:35-38 NASB1995)

What gospel message did Jesus proclaim to the people?

Jesus Christ taught that to come to him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

For by God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

And what did he mean by saying that the people were like sheep without a shepherd? The people were apparently desiring to hear, to learn, and to follow in the ways of the Lord, but they were lacking in anyone to lead them in the ways of God and in the ways of righteousness and obedience to the Lord and to his commands. And so it is today, not that there is a shortage of shepherds, but that there is a severe shortage of shepherds who are leading the people in the ways of righteousness and in obedience to the Lord.

So many of the “shepherds of the sheep” today, at least here in the USA, are leading the people in the darkness to continue in the darkness and to not come into the light of truth. They are teaching the people lies, and they are training them in unrighteousness by telling them that they are not required of God to obey God or to do any good works or to leave their sins behind them. Instead, they are giving them the impression that a verbal confession of Christ as Savior is enough to secure them heaven for eternity.

So, what we need desperately is not more shepherds but more shepherds who will tell the people the truth of the gospel that Jesus and his apostles taught, in the correct biblical context. We need more shepherds of the sheep who will speak the truth of the gospel to the people, in love, regardless of whether or not the people will receive them. We need more shepherds who will tell the people that Jesus died and rose from the grave so we will die to sin and live for God in obedience to his commands in holy living.

And we need more shepherds and more watchmen who will warn the people against the false shepherds of the people who are teaching them lies. We need the lies exposed for what they are, for so many who profess faith in Jesus Christ are living the lie and not the truth. So many are continuing in deliberate and habitual sin with no regard for God and for his commands. But if sin is what we practice, and not righteousness, and not obedience to God and to his commands, we will not inherit eternal life with God. See:

[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 1:18-32; Romans 2:5-10; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 4:1-13; Hebrews 10:19-39; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:3-6; 1 John 3:4-10; Revelation 2:1-29; Revelation 3:1-22]

My sheep hear me. They know me.

They listen to my voice and obey.

I call them and lead them.

They know my voice, so they follow me.

They will never follow strangers.

They will run away from them.

The voice of a stranger they know not;

They do not follow him.

So, I tell you the truth that

I am the gate, so you enter in.

Whoever does enter

Will find forgiveness and will be saved.

Nonetheless whoever enters

Not by the gate; other way,

He is the thief and a robber.

Listen not, the sheep to him.

Oh, I am the Good Shepherd,

Who laid his own life down for the sheep.

I know them. They know me.

They will live with me eternally.

The thief only comes to steal and

Kill and to destroy the church.

I have come to give you life that

You may have it to the full…

They know my voice, so they follow me.

The Wise and The Foolish

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.” (Matthew 7:24-27 NASB1995)

The Wise

The wise, according to the Scriptures, are those who do not merely listen to the Word of God, but they are those who put the Word of God into daily practice. They don’t just listen, but they act upon what they hear. The truth doesn’t just go in one ear and out the other, but it remains with them like glue. They don’t just go through the motions of religious practice, but they take God and his Word to heart to apply his words to their daily lives.

They don’t just profess faith in Jesus Christ with their lips, but they act upon what they believe. By the grace of God, and in the power of God, via Jesus’ sacrifice for the sins of the people of the world, and by God-persuaded faith in the Lord Jesus, they are crucified with Christ in death to sin, and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but now as servants of the Lord Jesus in doing what his will desires.

When the difficulties of this life come upon them, or when temptations to sin confront them, they remain steadfast in the Lord and they do not surrender their lives to the enemy. And when the enemy pursues them, and people persecute and reject them, they remain steadfast in faith and in Christian practice and they do not give the enemy a foothold in their lives. Even if they get death threats, they waver not, but they remain steadfast in faith.

The Foolish

The foolish, on the other hand, are also those who hear the words of the Lord, but they do not put them into daily practice. They may even be those who are or who were teachers of the Word. Perhaps some of them are even pastors and/or elders of church congregations. But they are just going through the motions of religious practice to make others think they are doing well, but while many of them are still living in addiction to sinful habits.

They may give lip service to the Lord, convinced that a mere profession of faith in Jesus is enough to secure them salvation from sin and eternal life with God, but they do not act on the faith they proclaim is theirs in Christ Jesus. Nothing really changes in their lives except for what is artificial and is on the outside only. For many of them are convinced that God requires nothing of them other than a profession of faith, so works are out for them.

So, when trials and temptations come their way, they easily give in to them. Even if they determine that they are going to now obey God and serve him with their lives, their hearts have not changed. They have not exchanged the old life for the new life in Christ. And so they keep returning to their vomit. They keep going back to the same old sins that have held them captive all their lives. For they are not committed to obeying Christ with their lives.

The Results

The Scriptures teach us that to come to faith in Jesus Christ we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin and to self), and follow our Lord in obedience to his commands. And they teach us that lip service only will not assure us of salvation from sin and eternal life with God. We must be those for whom obedience to our Lord’s commands are what we practice. For if sin is what we practice, instead, we will not inherit eternal life with God.

So, just because we make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ, it does not assure us of salvation from sin and eternal life with God. We must put the word of God into practice in our daily lives, in the power of God, and sin must no longer be what we practice. This does not mean we will never sin again, or that we must be absolutely perfect, but that righteousness and holiness and obedience to our Lord are to be our practice from now on.

The One Who Does God's Will

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’” (Matthew 7:21-23 NASB1995)

There are many people today, it would appear, who are taking this passage of Scripture out of its intended context, and they are using it to teach against us having to do any kind of works. But this clearly is not teaching that there are no works involved in our salvation from sin and in our walks of faith in obedience to our Lord’s commands. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). Without works, faith is dead.

What this is teaching is that we are not saved by our own fleshly works which are of the flesh and not of the Spirit. We can claim faith in Jesus Christ with our lips and do all sorts of “good deeds” and still not be approved by God. For even the faith to believe in Jesus comes from God, is authored by God, is gifted to us by God, and is persuaded of God as to his righteousness and holiness, and of our sinfulness, and of our need to deny self, die to sin, and follow Jesus in obedience to his commands, all in the power of God.

[Matthew 7:21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 1:12-13; John 6:44; Acts 26:18; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Hebrews 12:1-2; Titus 2:11-14; 1 Peter 2:24]

What Jesus Christ was communicating here is that giving lip service only to God – Father, Son Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit – will not gain anyone entry into heaven and to eternal life with God. Just because someone calls him, “Lord,” it does not mean at all that Jesus is “Lord” of their lives. And just because they do a bunch of “good deeds,” of their own doing, to try to be acceptable to God, or to try to look good to others, it does not buy them their ticket into heaven and forgiveness of all sins from here on out.

What this is teaching us is the critical importance of obedience to God and to his commands for our faith in Christ to be genuine faith which saves. What is of critical importance here is that we live holy lives, pleasing to God, all in the power of God, and that sin no longer be what we practice. For if lawlessness (disobedience to God and his commands) is what we practice, and not death to sin and holy living, we will not have salvation from sin, and we will not inherit eternal life with God, but God will reject us, instead.

And this is what Jesus and his New Testament apostles taught us as the gospel of our salvation all throughout the New Testament Scriptures. Yes, we are not saved by the works of the flesh. But we are also not saved by lip service only where we profess faith in Jesus but where we do not submit to him as Lord and to where we do not follow him in walks of surrender to him in obedience to his commands. For Jesus taught if we are to come after him we must deny self, die to sin daily, and obey him and his commandments.

[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 1:18-32; Romans 2:5-10; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10,19-20; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; 2 Corinthians 5:10,15,21; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 4:1-13; Hebrews 10:19-39; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:1-6; 1 John 3:4-10; Revelation 2:1-29; Revelation 3:1-22]

Crucified on a tree;

took on him our sin.

Buried our sin with Him;

rose in victory.

Jesus calls us to Him;

asks that we flee from sin;

Obey His commandments;

live eternally.

God our Father loves us,

which is why He gave us

His Son to die for us

on a cruel tree.

God created us to

walk in fellowship with Him,

daily trusting in His righteousness.

He has a plan for us

to abide in His grace;

Be transformed in our hearts;

live for him always.

Won’t you trust in Jesus?

Be your Lord and Master?

He wants to forgive you,

give you victory.

Over sin and yourself,

Jesus set you free.

Daily walking with Him,

live victoriously.

Invite Him in your heart.

He’ll give you a new start.

Beware False Prophets and Preachers

“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will know them by their fruits.” (Matthew 7:15-20 NASB1995)

A prophet, in the Scriptures, was someone who proclaimed the words of God to the people. They were God’s spokesmen (and spokeswomen) who spoke God’s messages to the people. Many people, though, think of prophets merely as those who do future telling. But to prophesy is also forthtelling which has to do with speaking God’s messages to the people. And we read in Acts 2 about Joel who prophesied that in the last days God’s daughters and sons (female and male) would prophesy, dream dreams, and see visions.

So, to prophesy, in the sense of forthtelling (speaking God’s messages), is basically to preach or to teach the Scriptures in a way that is applicable to our world and to our lives today. It is proclaiming the Word of God from the Scriptures in very practical ways which relate to where we are today as a society, as the church (the body of Christ), and as the people of the world from many different nations. And to prophesy is to speak to people for their edification and exhortation and consolation (see 1 Corinthians 14:3).

All of us who are of Christ are called of God to proclaim the excellencies of him who called us out of darkness into his wonderful light. All of us have been gifted of God with Spiritual gifts, and we have been given our “body part” assignments by God. And we are to be speaking the truth of God’s word to one another in love so that we are not led astray by the cunning and craftiness of false prophets (preachers) in their deceitful scheming. We all are to be exhorting one another daily so none of us are deceived with lies.

[Matthew 5:13-16; Matthew 28:18-20; John 4:31-38; John 13:13-17; John 14:12; Acts 1:8; Acts 26:18; Romans 10:14-15; Ephesians 2:10; Ephesians 5:11-14; 1 Peter 2:9,21; 1 John 2:6]

But we all need to be on our guard against those who preach and teach and prophesy what is not of God, but is of the flesh of humans, who devise their own gospel message to be less offensive to the ungodly and to human flesh and to be more attractive and appealing to the world, as a whole. They are those who secretly devise lies, disguised as truth, in order to deceive and to lead many people astray. And some or many of these false prophets (preachers, teachers, evangelists) are very popular among the people.

So, we who proclaim faith in Jesus Christ are to beware of false prophets, preachers, teachers, and evangelists, and anyone proclaiming to be sharing the truth of the gospel of Christ, which includes all people who may be spreading lies disguised as truth. I don’t care what name they go by or who they are related to, or what kind of position they hold in society, or within the gatherings of the church, we are to test them all! We are to pay close attention to the words they speak and the things that they do.

For so many of them come to us in “sheep’s clothing,” i.e. disguising themselves as believers in Jesus Christ who are faithful in service to the Lord who are teaching us the truth of what Jesus and his New Testament apostles taught us in the Scriptures. But secretly they are plotting evil against us, and they are teaching us lies, and their purpose is to deceive and to lead us astray so we will follow the lies and not the truth. And what they spread is misinformation in order to bait us into rejecting the truth of the gospel.

[Matthew 7:15-23; Matthew 24:11-24; Luke 6:26; John 10:1-15; Romans 16:17-19; 2 Corinthians 11:3,13-15; Ephesians 4:11-16; Philippians 3:2; 2 Peter 2:1-22; 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22; 1 Timothy 1:3-7; 1 Timothy 6:3-10; 2 Timothy 3:1-9; 1 John 2:18-22; 1 John 4:1-6; 2 John 1:7; Jude 1:1-25]

Just and true Your ways, King of all the earth.

Just are You, O Lord, our Eternal ONE,

For You judge the earth in Your righteousness.

They have shed the blood of Your righteous ones.

You give their reward. They’re to blame!

Kings of all the earth gather, one accord;

Make haste to engage in a mighty war.

They oppose the Lord and His holy saints.

They serve wickedness, to their shame!

Blessed are those who wait for Him at the gate.

They’ll not be ashamed. “Glad” be their refrain.

Beware False Prophets and Preachers

An Original Work / April 27, 2026

Hidden in Plain Sight

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” (Matthew 6:24 NASB1995)

Before we get into the meat of this topic, I want to point out that the word translated here as “wealth” is not just about money or worldly possessions. The word has to do with the treasure a person trusts in. And a treasure doesn’t even have to be anything physical, although it can be. It can be anything we value, adore, hold on to, regard highly, cherish, and give our time, heart, passion, and desire to. It can even be a sinful habit (addiction).

So, the situation here has to do with our loyalty and devotion to God and to his teachings vs. our loyalty to other things or people or practices which we treasure. Is God truly in first place in our lives? Are we committed to his service and to obeying his commands (New Covenant)? Is our desire for him above all else? Or are we trying to juggle both God and the world, or both God and sin, or both God and the desires and trappings of the flesh?

Many are they who are trying to juggle both God and the world and the flesh, and it just doesn’t work that way. And there are many who outwardly present themselves as Christians, and as followers of Christ, but in secret, where no one but God sees, they are still fleshly, still serving the flesh and not God, even though they claim to be serving God. For they are the foolish, the immature, the irresponsible who are being led by the flesh and not God.

And so God is calling out to all who profess faith in Jesus Christ but for whom the trappings of this world and of the flesh are what they truly serve and not God. For they are the double-minded (two-souled), i.e. those with divided loyalties who vacillate between serving God and serving the flesh. They are like children on a teeter-totter going back and forth and up and down in belief and in practice whose god is really the god of this world.

And so God is calling out to them, and he is letting them know that they cannot serve God and the flesh. Either sin is what they obey, in practice, or God and his commands are what they obey, in practice. They cannot be on both sides at the same time going back and forth between them. And this is not talking about perfection. This is talking about where our hearts are truly located and who or what truly has our hearts and devotion and passion.

Although the Scriptures teach it is possible, as followers of Christ, that we might sin sometimes (1 John 2:1-2), the Scriptures all throughout both the Old and the New Testaments make it quite clear to us that if sin is what we practice, and not obedience to our Lord’s commands, that it equals unbelief which results in death and not in life eternal with God. For faith which comes from God must result in us dying to sin and obeying our Lord’s commands.

Lord, I love to have You near me

As I go throughout my day,

Walking daily in Your footsteps,

As I humbly pray.

List’ning to You, hear You teaching

Me to live and work for You,

Lord, I pray You lead and guide me

Daily in Your truth.

Lord, I want to be Your witness,

Telling others of Your grace;

Telling how they can be set free

Of their sins today;

Share with them the love of Jesus,

He died on a cruel tree,

So that we’d be forgiven

For all eternity.

Lord, I want to serve You only,

As I bow on bended knee,

Making You my Lord and master,

And Your servant be.

Humbly walking in obedience,

Doing what You say to me,

Lord, may I be an example

Of one who’s set free.

Testing Our Motivations

“Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.

“So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.” (Matthew 6:1-4 NASB1995)

All this comes down to a heart issue and to our motives for why we do what we do as those who profess faith in Jesus Christ and who claim him as Lord. Do we serve God to be noticed by other humans so that they will think well of us? Do we give to the poor and then have to announce our giving so that everyone can see how generous we are? And do we pattern our doing and giving and speaking after the ways of the world so that the world will like us? Or do we serve God humbly because we love God and want to obey him?

So, what about sharing our testimonies? Is that wrong? It depends on what we are sharing and what our motivation is for sharing it. The apostle Paul talked much about his life and ministry and the things which he did and said and how God was using him. Why did he do this? He did it so that the church, the body of Christ, would pray for him and his ministry. And why else? He did it to encourage the body of Christ in how God was using him for their own encouragement in their walks of faith in obedience to the Lord.

So, this is not teaching us that we must be completely silent about how God is using us for his glory if the Lord is leading us in what to say, and if our testimonies are for the encouragement of the body of Christ, and if they are so the body will pray for us, and if God is the one who gets the glory and not us. For when I was growing up we had missionaries who came and spoke at our church gatherings and who told us their stories of how God was using them in other people’s lives, and that was definitely for our encouragement.

And knowing what they were going through and how God was using them helped us to know better how to pray for them, too. So we must be very careful here that we do not cast judgment on those who are sharing their testimonies for these kinds of good reasons, because that is not what this passage of Scripture is referring to. It is talking strictly about those who love to brag about what they are doing so that everyone will think well of them. They want the praises of other humans more than they want God’s approval.

So, in all that we do and say we should pray and ask the Lord for wisdom to know what we should say and not say, and for what purpose. Is the purpose for self-exaltation and so everyone will think we are great? Or is the purpose to serve God and to do his will and to encourage the body of Christ in their own walks of faith in obedience to the Lord? And/or is it because we need people to pray for us because we are under severe persecution and the devil is hot on our trail? I pray God will guide us all in doing what is right by him.

Love Your Enemies

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matthew 5:43-48 NASB1995)

I am going to do this a little backwards today. I am going to address what is meant by this last sentence in verse 48 first, for that is often a confusing and controversial subject over which there can be much misunderstanding.

The word “perfect” means “mature, complete.” The Greek word is téleios, and it has to do with becoming mature in our walks of faith in obedience to our Lord. It has to do with our spiritual journey which will not be complete until we die or until Jesus returns for his faithful bride and he takes us to be with him for eternity. It is the process of sanctification and being made holy by faith in Jesus Christ in obedience to his commands. And the verb tense is future, i.e. you “shall be perfect,” not that we are perfect (complete) already.

But this is not to be taken ever as an excuse for deliberate and habitual sin in the life of one who professes faith in Jesus Christ. For our faith and our salvation are to be progressive, ongoing, as we each day follow our Lord in obedience to his commands. And we might stumble along the way and need to be restored sometimes, but sin should no longer be our habit. For we are all to be works in progress as clay in the hands of our Potter God who is shaping us and molding us into his likeness, as we cooperate with him.

So, as those who profess faith in Jesus Christ, who are works in progress being shaped and molded by God into his likeness, as we follow him in obedience to his commands, we are to be those who love, not just people who are nice to us, but all people, including those who persecute and mistreat us. And this love, which comes from God, prefers what God prefers, which is all that is morally pure, upright, honest, faithful, and obedient to our Lord. So with this love we will not sin against those who hate us.

So, instead of hating our enemies and doing evil to them, we are to love them and pray for them and do good to them, even to those who do evil against us. And there is no time limit on this kind of love. We are to love those who have done evil against us for generation after generation. For love has no time limit. But please understand that this love is based in moral purity, so this love will never go soft on sin. It will not approve of or pacify sin. But it will take a stand against sin and for godliness and moral purity.

For it is not love if we pacify people in their sin, and if we give them the impression that their sins no longer matter to God. Tolerance of sin is not love. When the church tolerates deliberate and habitual sin among its members, although they may feel like that is love, it is not love, but it is hate. And kindness is not lying to people just to make them feel good, either. And it is a lie to tell people that they can keep sinning by habit, and not obey God, in practice, and that heaven is still what awaits them.

So much of what is called “the church” today is tolerating sin among its members in the name of love and kindness. But that is a lie from hell! But that does not mean we should be hateful to those who sin, either. We can, in pure love and kindness, address sin for what it is, and call people to repentance (turning from sin) and to walks of obedience to our Lord and to his commands. And if the sinners refuse to repent, the Scriptures give us instructions on how to handle that situation, too (1 Corinthians 5:1-13).

You Shall Not Commit Adultery

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:27-28 NASB1995)

Defining Adultery

What is adultery? It isn’t just the act of sexual intercourse with someone to whom you are not married while you are married to someone else. In fact, you don’t have to be married to anyone, and you can still commit adultery. And this isn’t just about men lusting after women to whom they are not married. Any person, male or female, is capable of committing adultery by lusting after another person, whether or not the other person is the opposite sex from them. And this other person doesn’t have to be live and in person.

Probably the most common and active way in which people today, male or female (usually predominantly male), are committing adultery is through the viewing of pornographic or sexually seductive TV shows, movies, cartoons, games, pictures, and videos. And these can be men with men, and women with women, or men with women, and women with men. Or in some cases these may involve children, sadly so. And many children are being taken advantage of sexually, even by one or both parents. Very sad indeed!

And then there is the kind of adultery which involves men or women (more often men) engaging in a sexual act with themselves, which then falls into the category of homosexuality. And this often goes right along with the viewing of sexually charged material. But the one committing adultery may also be stimulated by their own memories or fantasies without any outside stimulation at all. And those who are addicted to this may even prefer themselves over their own spouses, for this is so powerfully addictive!

And then when you think of how God describes spiritual adultery in the Scriptures, it is adultery when we prefer the world over God, or when we prefer and give more attention and affection and caring to other humans than what we give to our own spouses. So not all adultery is sexual in nature, for it has also to do with preferring someone or something else over God and over our spouses. For God is to be in first place, and our spouses are to be in first place over other humans, not the other way around.

“If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell.” (Matthew 5:29-30 NASB1995)

Literal or Figuratively?

I tend to take this Scripture passage more figuratively than literally. For, at least in my thinking, a person could get rid of a physical eye or a hand or a leg and still live in spiritual, physical, emotional and/or sexual adultery. And that is because adultery comes from what is stored up in our hearts, not from a physical eye or hand, even though eyes and hands may be used in the process of committing adultery. “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.”

See: [Matthew 15:17-20; Luke 6:45]

So, this is primarily a heart issue. And until what is stored up in the heart is dealt with and removed, by the grace of God, in his power, via the full cooperation of those who are living in adultery, in sinful addiction, the heart will continue to pump out what is stored up in the heart. And this is why many addicts are never successful in gaining victory over their sins, and why they keep repeating the same addictive sins over and over again. And it is because they do not deal with it on a heart level, but on a surface level.

For example, if you are angry with your spouse (or God) over something, but you have not let go of that anger, chances are pretty good when you get angry that you will retaliate by feeding your own flesh or by taking it out on your spouse. Or if you have not forgiven your spouse (or God) about something you believe he or she did to you (whether they did or not), then that unforgiveness will continue to seep into your daily decisions, actions, thinking, and behaviors. So the heart has to be dealt with first.

For “the eye” is used in Scripture to speak of discernment and judgment. And the hands are often spoken of in terms of our deeds and behaviors. And whether or not we give in to sin has much to do with spiritual discernment and judgment and with our actions (deeds, behaviors). So, less literally, this could be speaking of plucking out of our lives all wrong discernments and all wrong behaviors, which usually come in that order. For wrong decisions result in wrong choices and behaviors. So, again, this is a heart issue.

[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 1:18-32; Romans 2:5-10; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10,19-20; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; 2 Corinthians 5:10,15,21; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 4:1-13; Hebrews 10:19-39; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:1-6; 1 John 3:4-10; Revelation 2:1-29; Revelation 3:1-22]

Listen to me ev’ryone and

Understand this teaching of Christ:

Why do you break the commands

Of God for the sake of tradition?

When you follow the ways of man,

And don’t obey the words of Christ,

You nullify the words of God,

And you hold to the ways of man.

What comes out of a man’s mouth is

What makes him unclean and dirty.

The things that come out of the mouth

Come from the heart, from within him.

The heart of man is so sinful;

From his nature, out comes evil:

Lying, cursing, greed and malice,

Lust and lewdness, deceit, slander.

Jesus calls us to obey him;

Turn from our sins; follow His ways.

Yet, his people honor him with their lips,

but their hearts not with Him.

Their worship of God is in vain.

Their teachings are rules taught by man.

Jesus calls us; gently leads us

To return and follow His truth.

Salt and Light

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.” (Matthew 5:13 NASB1995)

Salt is used for seasoning and for preserving food. And to season is to flavor, and flavor is the distinctive taste of a food or drink; an indication of the essential character of something. And food is often a symbol spiritually of the word of God, of the truth of the gospel, and of Jesus Christ himself. So we who are following Jesus Christ with our lives are to be a representation to the people of the earth of the essential character of Jesus Christ and of his gospel message. We are to be those who maintain, uphold, continue in, safeguard, and defend the essential character of Jesus and of his gospel.

Nonetheless, that does not describe what I view as the majority of those calling themselves “Christians” today in my nation, the USA. So many teachers of “the gospel” have diluted the message of the gospel to the point to where it barely resembles the gospel of Christ at all. So many are teaching that all we have to do is to give a verbal confession of Christ as Lord and now we are saved for eternity, done deal, but regardless of how we live, and regardless of what we do with Christ and with his gift of grace from that moment forward. So the church, in general, has lost its saltiness.

Therefore, we have a mass of people professing Jesus as their Savior and Lord who have little to no regard at all for his teachings and for what he requires of us in the way of obedience to his commands in holy living. They have been told that all they have to do is “accept Jesus into your heart” and now heaven is guaranteed as your eternal destiny. But Jesus said if anyone would come after him that he must deny self, take up his cross daily (die daily to sin and to self) and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to our lives of sin, and we do not obey God, in practice, we will lose them for eternity.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16 NASB1995)

But here is another issue of concern. So many people who profess faith in Jesus Christ, even if their faith is genuine, are not sharing that faith with other people. They are not sharing with the people of the world, and with the church, the truth of the gospel as taught by Jesus and by his New Testament apostles. And some who are sharing “the gospel” are sharing a diluted and altered “gospel” message which does not put sin to death in the lift of the “believer in Christ,” but rather entertains it. But as Christians we are to be shining the light of the truth of the gospel to the people.

And we are pretty much all given an open door, at least for now (in the USA), to share the gospel message on the internet. So many Christians are on social media, which is a great place to share the gospel with others. And we can begin a blog on the internet where we can share the gospel. And there are multiple Christian discussion sites on the internet where you can share the gospel. And you should share the gospel with your friends and neighbors and with others who profess faith in Jesus Christ but who are believing the lies and not the truth. For time is running out. Satan rules.

Forget about what other humans might think of you, or how they might respond to you if you share the gospel with them, but share the gospel taught by Jesus. Tell the people that faith in Jesus Christ requires of God that we repent of (turn from) our sins and follow our Lord in walks of obedience to his commands, from now to eternity, by the grace of God, in the power of God. For the grace of God, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we wait for our Lord’s return.

[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 1:18-32; Romans 2:5-10; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10,19-20; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; 2 Corinthians 5:10,15,21; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 4:1-13; Hebrews 10:19-39; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:1-6; 1 John 3:4-10; Revelation 2:1-29; Revelation 3:1-22]

So the world will feel at home.

Turn their hearts, Lord, back to You.

Open the blind eyes, turn them all from darkness,

Turn from their sin, forsake idols,

Be restored to God again.

They Falsely Say

“Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:10-12 NASB1995)

We live in a day and age, at least here in the USA we do, when so many who profess the name of Jesus are listening to the lies being taught them by other human beings, while they refuse to believe the truths that Jesus and his New Testament apostles taught in the Scriptures. And what I am referencing here is a half-truth false gospel message which is widely being adopted across the USA in place of the true gospel taught by Jesus and his apostles. They prefer the lies because the lies don’t require we obey God.

So, these false teachers of what they call “the gospel” convince so many people that a mere profession of faith in Jesus Christ assures them of forgiveness of all sins and of eternal life with God, but regardless of how they live from that point forward. And many of them are emphatic about teaching that God makes no requirements of us other than “belief,” which they do not define. And so if we teach that faith in Jesus must result in us dying to sin and obeying God, they call that “works salvation.”

Now, when Jesus lived on the earth, what he taught was not received well and accepted by all people. Even most of the Jews, who knew what the Old Testament Scriptures taught, and who were even teachers of the Scriptures, refused Jesus’ teachings. And so they fought against him, and they tried to trip him up with his words so they would have cause to accuse him of wrong. And they called him all sorts of names, even associating him with the devil, because they refused to believe who he was and his gospel message.

So, when we who are genuine followers of Jesus Christ teach the words of Jesus and of his apostles, taught in the correct biblical context, and so we teach that God requires death to sin and obedience to his commands as part of faith which saves, we might sometimes, or many times, face opposition from those who are listening to the lies of other humans who are teaching what tickles itching ears and what does not require death to sin and obedience to God. So, they might proclaim that we are teaching lies.

So, we show them the Scriptures. We show them what Jesus and his apostles taught as God’s requirements for those who are of genuine faith in Jesus Christ. But even when faced with the written Scriptures, many of them will deny them and try to find some way around them, sometimes from their own imaginations, but often just reciting what they have heard other people teach as “the gospel.” For so many have been brainwashed that God does not require that they obey his commands or put sin to death in their lives.

But the grace of God is not a “get out of jail free card” based on lip service only. The grace of God, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we wait for our Lord’s return. And Jesus taught that to come to him we must deny self, die to sin daily, and follow him in obedience to his commands. For Jesus put our sins to death on that cross so we will now die to sin and walk with him in obedience to his commands.

[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 1:18-32; Romans 2:5-10; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10,19-20; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; 2 Corinthians 5:10,15,21; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 4:1-13; Hebrews 10:19-39; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:1-6; 1 John 3:4-10; Revelation 2:1-29; Revelation 3:1-22]

Yet, even when we are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, even by others who claim to be Christians, saved by grace, but who are twisting the Scriptures to teach lies, instead, we are blessed of God. We are blessed when people insult us and falsely say all kinds of evil against us on account of Jesus Christ and what he taught the people. So we are not to get angry. We are not to retaliate. But we are to rejoice and be glad, for our reward is in heaven. For in the same way they persecuted the prophets of the past.

Woe to those who look to man’s help;

Who turn away from Jesus Christ;

Forming an alliance not in step with God;

Making their own plans, and praying not.

Willing not to listen to truth,

They close their ears to what is right.

Pleasing words are all that they’ll hear;

Feel good messages that bring cheer.

Trust in your Lord; turn from your sin.

Put your faith now ONLY IN HIM.

Do not turn to idols. They’ll not satisfy.

Jesus will save you. That’s why He died.

Your Lord will be gracious to you.

He cares all about you, ‘tis true.

He forgives you all of your sin

When you give your life up to Him.

Oh, how truly gracious He’ll be

When you bow to Him on your knees;

Turning now from your sin; walking in his ways.

He’ll lead and guide you all of your days.

Now you will sing praises to Him.

He delivered you from your sin.

You’ll tell others now of His grace,

So they may see Christ face-to-face.
