Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

My 12 Favorite Scriptures Pt 5

Video Talk

Jeremiah 1:4-8 NIV

“The word of the Lord came to me, saying,

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,

    before you were born I set you apart;

    I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

“Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”

But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.

Now, the favorite Scripture is really this whole chapter, verses 1-19, but on my Scripture quilt it is just verses 4-5. And when I was in my late 20’s, which was about 45 years ago, the Lord spoke to me profoundly through this Scripture that this was his calling on my life, not to be a prophet, but just a woman of God who loves him who is sharing with others what the Lord is teaching her through her times with the Lord in his word each day. And in reality, we are all called of God to do that, if we believe in Jesus.

But the Lord had to take me through a lot of “hard knocks” to get me to the place to where I would serve him in this way without fear and without retreating and without getting discouraged. He allowed me to be “slam-dunked” many times over to bring me to the place where I would do what he said even if everyone on this earth stood against me. That doesn’t make me tough, though. I bleed. I get hurt. I cry. I feel pain and suffering. But I keep going in the strength of the Lord for I know I must.

Oh, to Be Like Thee, Blessed Redeemer

Lyrics by Thomas O. Chisholm, 1897

Music by W. J. Kirkpatrick, 1897

Oh, to be like Thee! blessèd Redeemer,

This is my constant longing and prayer;

Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures,

Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear.

Oh, to be like Thee! full of compassion,

Loving, forgiving, tender and kind,

Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting,

Seeking the wandering sinner to find.

O to be like Thee! lowly in spirit,

Holy and harmless, patient and brave;

Meekly enduring cruel reproaches,

Willing to suffer others to save.

O to be like Thee! while I am pleading,

Pour out Thy Spirit, fill with Thy love;

Make me a temple meet for Thy dwelling,

Fit me for life and Heaven above.

Oh, to be like Thee! Oh, to be like Thee,

Blessèd Redeemer, pure as Thou art;

Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness;

Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.
