Proverbs 3:5-8 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)
“5Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
and lean not on your own understanding;
6in all your ways acknowledge Him,
and He will make your paths straight.
7Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD and turn away from evil.
8This will bring healing to your body
and refreshment to your bones.”
Trust in The Lord
To put our trust in the Lord is to believe in Him, by
biblical faith in Him, to put our conviction and our confidence in Him, in who
He is and in what He did for us via his death and resurrection, in putting our
sins to death with Him in order that we might, by faith in Him, deny self, die
to sin, and obey God in practice, in His power at work within us who are His. It
is to take Him at His word and to do what He says we ought to do as His
followers.
With all your heart! And our hearts include our minds,
souls, spirits, and emotions. Our hearts are the center of our being, our core,
the essence of who we are and think and do in mind and will and character. So
if we trust in the Lord with all our heart, we are giving it all to God,
nothing held back. We trust God with our circumstances, with our provisions,
with our trials and tribulations, and to guide and direct us where He wants us
day by day.
We Can’t Figure it Out
Lean not on your own understanding. We can’t “figure it out”
ourselves when it comes to matters of the heart and faith and obedience to our
Lord. For our salvation comes from God, and He is the one who gifts us with the
faith needed for salvation. And He is the one who directs our paths and leads
us in the ways of righteousness. And He is our deliverer from sin when we
repent of (turn from) our sins who empowers us to obey, if we will let Him.
In All your ways acknowledge Him. And this is not a casual
nod agreeing that God exists and that Jesus gave His life up for us on that
cross. This is to believe in Him, to submit to Him and to His truth, to forsake
our lives of sin, and to follow Him in obedience to His commands. It is to live
like He is our Lord (Master), and to walk in His ways, and to do the things He
says we are to do, as His followers. And He will lead us in the ways of
righteousness.
Fear The Lord
And if we are not wise in our own eyes, then we are not
relying on our own strength and wisdom and discernment to guide the path in
which we go. We are following the leading of the Lord and His counsel and
wisdom each step of the way, day by day. We don’t make all our own choices and
decisions about life, but we trust in the counsel of the Lord to give us
guidance and direction and wisdom. So we honor God and we turn away from evil.
When we do life our way, following our own thinking and
reasoning, we might go down the wrong path, in the wrong direction, leading us
where we ought not to go. But when we fear (honor, respect, obey) our Lord, He
leads us away from evil and on the paths of righteousness. And there we find
peace for the soul in knowing that we are on the right track, going the right
direction, and that our Lord is with us and He will not abandon us.

Tenderly He speaks,
softly so.
Gently He calls -
His will to know.
Won’t you invite Him
in your heart?
Humbly accept Him
now.
Bow before Him with
contrite heart.
May you obey His
will.
Seek Him with all
your heart and soul,
And your heart, His
Spirit fill.
Jesus died to free
you from sin,
Giving you new life
to begin,
Walking with Him
ev’ry hour,
Obeying His
commands.
Won’t you trust Him
to be your Lord?
His grace you can’t
afford.
Freely He gives you
peace within,
When you turn from
all your sin.
Live for Him ev’ry
passing day.
Meet with Him; read
His word and pray.
Serve Him in the way
He leads you,
Doing all that He
says.
Do unto others as
you would
Have them do unto
you.
Love them with Jesus
love within you.
Your hearts to God
be true.
