He Will Teach Us His Ways

Micah 4:1-2 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

(See also Isaiah 2:1-3)

 

1In the last days the mountain of the house of the LORD

will be established as the chief of the mountains;

it will be raised above the hills,

and the peoples will stream to it.

2And many nations will come and say:

“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,

to the house of the God of Jacob.

He will teach us His ways,

so that we may walk in His paths.”

For the law will go forth from Zion

and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

 

The Last Days

 

What are these “last days”? They are the days of Jesus Christ, our Messiah, our Lord, our Savior and Redeemer. They are the Messianic age which began with the birth of Jesus Christ, who was God incarnate when He lived on this earth, and they will continue until the return of our Lord when He returns for His bride and He takes us to be with Him for eternity, i.e. all of us who have believed on Him, who by faith in Him have denied self, died to sin, and who are now walking with God in obedience to His commands in Godly living.

 

And what is this “mountain of the house of the Lord?” He is Jesus Christ. He is Zion. He is Israel, and all who believe on Him are Israel. And Jerusalem is no longer the physical city of Jerusalem, but it is heavenly Jerusalem, the Jerusalem which is from above, now God’s Holy city which is comprised of the people of God who are of faith in Jesus Christ. We are now that Holy City, the Holy people of God. And Jesus, as Zion, is teaching us His ways so that we may walk in His paths, which are the paths of righteousness.

 

Jesus Christ is The Word

 

For when Jesus Christ began His ministry on this earth He taught God’s requirements that we must deny self, die to sin (repent of sin) and obey God and His (New Covenant) commands in life practice (not necessarily in absolute sinless perfection). Our lives are now to be surrendered to the Lord Jesus, to doing His will His way. He is now to be King of our lives, and we are to be following Him wherever He leads us in doing all that He commands us to do and to say for His purposes, and for His glory and praise and honor.

 

So, when this says that the law will go forth from Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem, this is no longer speaking of a physical location. This is speaking of Jesus Christ who is The Word (the law), who is Zion, who is Israel, and it is speaking of all who are of biblical faith in Jesus Christ whose lives are surrendered to the Lord to doing His will. Jesus taught the law of God to the people, and as His people, we are also to be teaching and preaching the Word of our Lord, the gospel of our salvation, to the people.

 

The Gospel of Christ

 

And Jesus Christ taught that to come to Him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) Him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to His commands, in His power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls Him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

 

For by God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in Him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

Listen to Me, and eat what’s good today,

And your soul will delight in richest of fare.

Wash in the blood of the Lamb.”

 

Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him.

Let the wicked forsake his way, in truth.

Let him turn to the Lord, and he will receive mercy.

Freely, God pardons him.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,

Nor are your ways My ways,”

declares the Lord, our God.

 

“My word that goes out of My mouth is truthful.

It will not return to Me unfulfilled.

My word will accomplish all that I desire,

And achieve the goal I intend.

You will go in joy and be led forth in peace.

The mountains will burst into song… before you,

And all of the trees clap their hands.”
