“You shall do no injustice in judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor nor defer to the great, but you are to judge your neighbor fairly. You shall not go about as a slanderer among your people, and you are not to act against the life of your neighbor; I am the Lord.” (Leviticus 19:15-16 NASB1995)
Yes, this is Old Covenant Law, but it is retaught to us
under the New Covenant, in the New Testament, so it is still relevant and
applicable to our lives today. And although the New Testament speaks much
against judging one another, it also speaks of the necessity of judging others,
in some cases.
[Matthew
7:1-5; John 7:24,51; John 8:15-16; Romans 2:3; Galatians 6:1-5; 1 Corinthians
5:1-13; 2 Corinthians 10:12; James 5:19-20; Jude 1:22-23]
But we are to judge justly and righteously and fairly, and
without prejudice or hate. We are not to judge according to our own selves, or
according to our human traditions and culture, or by appearances, or without
knowledge of the situation, and without hearing the accused and their defense.
We are not to judge according to human flesh, by human standards, or hypocritically
while we who judge do the same things. And we are not to compare others to
ourselves thinking that they must be like us, for we are not all the same.
We must be very guarded against listening to gossip, too,
for many innocent people are being slandered via gossip, and they are being
accused falsely of what they did not do, just on the word of someone else who
may be someone who is a liar and who has an ulterior motive for making certain
that people believe the lies about someone, and not the truth. And it could be
to try to make the other person look bad, so they will not be believed, and to
protect their own reputation, or just so others will not believe the innocent.
And we should not believe other people just because they are
preachers or pastors of “church” congregations, or because they are famous
evangelists or book authors or movie actors or famous athletes or politicians,
etc. We are taught in the Scriptures to test the spirits to see which ones are
of God. And we should inquire of the Lord when we hear something about others, so
we do not make judgments of others without knowledge, or just because so-and-so
said it. Lots of people tell lies. So be very careful what you believe.
There are many liars today who are twisting the Scriptures
to make them say what they do not say, if taught in context, and they are deceiving
many people, and they are convincing them to believe the lies and not the truth.
And they are getting many people to be followers of humans, rather than
followers of God, and to participate and to approve of what is pure evil, in
the name of God, or in the name of Christianity. But we are to do no injustice
to anyone in judgment, and we are to do no harm to others.
So not one of us should be supporting and heralding and
approving of the evil actions of others just because they are people of
prominence or rulership, or because they call themselves God’s chosen people.
For murder is wrong. Killing innocents is evil. And just because certain people
claim that certain other people are evil, and that the others are doing evil
things, and so they need to be punished for their evil, it does not mean that
what they are telling us is the truth or that there is not some hidden agenda
going on.
So make sure you are listening to God, and that you are
testing everything you hear coming from the mouths of everyone, no matter who
they are or how important or popular they are among the people. And don’t buy
into religious theologies just because some famous person said them as truth.
Be students of the Scriptures who study them in their appropriate context under
the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit. Be seekers of truth and not
followers of lies, and follow the commands of God, and not human flesh.
You don’t want to end up following the wrong people and then
end up sharing in their punishment because you believed and followed after a
lie and you gave approval of evil people and their evil deeds, all in the name
of God. God does not approve of evil. He teaches that we must not murder, and
that we should love our enemies and do good to them and not harm them. We are
to pray for our enemies and feed the hungry and the thirsty, even if they
return evil for the good we do. So don’t get caught up in the lies.
