Jesus, Lead Me All the Way

Psalms 112:1

 

“Praise the Lord!

Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,

    who greatly delights in his commandments!”

 

We are blessed who walk in the fear of the Lord, who take God and his word seriously, and who do not shun the word of the Lord in order to follow after the ways of the flesh. We are favored who walk in righteousness and in holiness and in obedience to our Lord and to his commands (New Covenant) and who do not walk in sin. We are happy who are following our Lord with our lives and who are not following after the ways of this sinful world. And we are fortunate who are putting the word of God into practice in our lives.

 

Psalms 112:6-8

 

“For the righteous will never be moved;

    he will be remembered forever.

He is not afraid of bad news;

    his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.

His heart is steady; he will not be afraid,

    until he looks in triumph on his adversaries.”

 

Who are the righteous? We are those who have been made right with God via Jesus’ sacrifice of his life in death on that cross in order to put our sins to death with him so that we might be saved from our sin, by God’s grace and through God-given and God-ordained faith in Jesus Christ. And we are those who are living righteously, for whom righteousness is our practice. We are no longer living in sin, but now we are living in moral purity, honesty, decency, uprightness, godliness, faithfulness and in obedience to our Lord.

 

This does not mean necessarily that we are living absolutely sin free and that we never do wrong, but that we are walking according to the Spirit and we are no longer walking (in conduct, in practice) according to the flesh. Sin is no longer our practice, but righteousness is our practice. We do not let sin reign any more in our mortal bodies to where we are obeying its passions, in practice. But our minds are set on the Spirit and not on the flesh. And to set our minds on the Spirit, and not on the flesh, is life and peace. Amen!

We will not be moved. If we are walking in holiness and in righteousness, by the grace of God, and in His power and strength, we will not be moved from our faith and our hope in the Lord. We will continue in Christ and in his word and in obedience to him. He will continue to be our Lord (Owner-Master), and we will continue to be his beloved and his servants, too, who do the work that he prepared in advance that we should do. We will not want to leave his presence and our desire will be to obey him, not to ignore him.

 

If our lives are truly entrenched in the Lord and in his word, although bad news may upset us emotionally, especially if it involves people we love, we will not be shaken by it. It will not destroy us. Our faith in our Lord will remain secure and steadfast because we believe in the sovereignty of God over our lives, and we accept that in this world we are going to have troubles and heartaches. It doesn’t mean we won’t grieve or that we won’t be in pain and in tears, but even through the tears we will trust in God.

 

Psalms 112:10

 

“The wicked man sees it and is angry;

    he gnashes his teeth and melts away;

    the desire of the wicked will perish!”

 

Those who are wicked in heart, especially if they have had anything to do with our bad news, i.e. if they are party to what has taken place, they will be upset when we do not fall apart, for that is what they hope for. For they want us to fall. They want us to curse God and die. They don’t want us to keep going and to not reject the Lord. They are hoping we will fail so that they can point a finger at us in order to justify their own wickedness. For our walks of faith are an offense to them, as is the cross of Christ.

 

But we are not to let their attitudes towards us take us out. Even if it seems they have gained the upper hand, we are not to let it discourage or dishearten us. We must remain steadfast in faith in the Lord despite all evil plans against us that may be carried out against us. We must not let the wicked lead us to stumble, but their efforts against us should encourage us and strengthen us in our walks of faith and in our determination to persevere despite all obstacles being thrown our way. All glory to God!
