Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

Jesus as Lord of Our Lives

Video Talk

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 ESV

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

Now, I know this is Old Testament but this is taught for us again in the New Testament, just not in all these same exact words. Jesus taught the first part of it when he stated what were the first and second greatest commandments (Matthew 22:36-40; Mark 12:29-31; Luke 10:25-28). And to love the Lord with all our heart and soul and might and mind means our lives are fully surrendered to him. Jesus is Owner-Master of our lives, and we are submitted to him as Lord (ruler of our lives).

And the rest of this is taught in principle in the New Testament, for Jesus is to be our life, not just part of our lives. And we should speak of him and his gospel as natural as we speak of anything else going on in our lives, or more than anything else, in reality. Talking about him and teaching his word and his gospel should be a normal part of our every day lives, and not reserved for just “religious” occasions. For his words are not to be just on our lips, but they are to be in our hearts and in practice in our everyday lives.

Now, it is good to post the Scriptures in places in our homes where we can read them daily, so that we can commit them to memory. But if this becomes just an intellectual or a religious exercise, and the word of God does not become a reality in our everyday lives, impacting how we live day in and day out, then it is kind of pointless. For the purpose of posting Scriptures are to remind us that we are to live them and to practice them and commit them to heart memory, not just to memory in our minds.

So, the point of all this really is that God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – is to be Lord (Owner-Master) of our lives, our lives are to be surrendered to him, we are to be walking in obedience to his commands (New Covenant), and we are to no longer be walking in sin. Jesus should be our life, and that should be evident not only in our behaviors, but in our conversations, as well. We should talk about him as naturally as we do anything else, and we should never be embarrassed to share Christ and his gospel with anyone.

Have Thine Own Way, Lord

Words by Adelaide A. Pollard, 1907

Music by George C. Stebbins, 1907

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!

Thou art the potter, I am the clay.

Mold me and make me after Thy will,

While I am waiting, yielded and still.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!

Search me and try me, Master, today!

Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now,

As in Thy presence humbly I bow.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!

Wounded and weary, help me I pray!

Power, all power, surely is Thine!

Touch me and heal me, Savior divine!

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!

Hold o'er my being absolute sway.

Fill with Thy Spirit till all shall see

Christ only, always, living in me!
