I Know Who Holds My Hand

Psalms 33:10-12 ESV

 

“The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;

    he frustrates the plans of the peoples.

The counsel of the Lord stands forever,

    the plans of his heart to all generations.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,

    the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!”

 

We may look at all that is going on in the world and think, “Oh No!” But we don’t have to worry about any of that for God is still in control. He is still completely sovereign over all that he has made. The enemies of God have no power over God. They cannot do what they are doing without God’s permission. So, if God allows it, he can bring us through it. Amen?

 

I think about this every day because of what I am personally going through, first with the mice infestation and then me catching the mice virus and being so sick for such a long period of time, and then some of those symptoms still hanging on five months later, and then a month ago having my right knee weaken on me to where I can’t walk much at all unassisted.

 

Every day I remind myself that God is still sovereign and that he is in control and that none of this could happen to me but what God allowed it and he allowed it for a purpose. Some days are harder than others, and that is when I especially need to remind myself of God’s love and watch over my life and that if he has allowed this that he will carry me through it, too.

 

So, no matter what the nations of the world are plotting against us, the counsel of the Lord stands forever. Yes, he will allow us to be hated and persecuted for the sake of his name and for his gospel, but what he permits he will also supply all we need to endure it. We have to believe that. We have to put our trust fully in God no matter what the future holds for us.

 

Psalms 33:13-17 ESV

 

“The Lord looks down from heaven;

    he sees all the children of man;

from where he sits enthroned he looks out

    on all the inhabitants of the earth,

he who fashions the hearts of them all

    and observes all their deeds.

The king is not saved by his great army;

    a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.

The war horse is a false hope for salvation,

    and by its great might it cannot rescue.”

 

If we have trusted in Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of our lives and we have been crucified with Christ in death to sin so we no longer are enslaved to sin but so we now can be slaves of his righteousness, it doesn’t mean God can no longer see when we sin. And it doesn’t free us from God’s judgment against us with regard to future sins (Rom 2:6-8; Gal 6:7-8; 2 Co 5:10).

 

When God looks down from heaven upon the earth he sees all of us and he sees everything we do and he hears everything we say and he knows every thought that we think. Nothing is hidden from his sight. You may close your door and hide your sins in secret from other humans but God still sees. He knows it all. He knows every deed we do for good or for evil.

 

He knows, too, where we are placing our trust, and he knows who are truly his by genuine faith in him and who are just pretending to be his. He knows if we are giving lip service to him while our “gods” are the gods of this world and not him. He knows who we are serving with our hearts, devotion, passion, commitment, and loyalty. And we will be judged accordingly.

 

So, if we are professing faith in Jesus Christ and if we are claiming God’s forgiveness of our sins and heaven as our eternal destiny, but our hearts are far from the Lord, and it is the gods of this world who truly have our hearts’ devotion, please know that it will not end well. The flesh of man is a false hope for salvation. Salvation comes through dying with Christ to sin.

Psalms 33:18-22 ESV

 

“Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him,

    on those who hope in his steadfast love,

that he may deliver their soul from death

    and keep them alive in famine.

Our soul waits for the Lord;

    he is our help and our shield.

For our heart is glad in him,

    because we trust in his holy name.

Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us,

    even as we hope in you.”

 

Those who fear the Lord are those who treat God with honor and respect. We are those who have died with him to sin and who daily are dying with him to sin and to self and who are walking with him in obedience to his commands. We are not walking according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit, and we are not deliberately and habitually sinning against God.

 

It doesn’t mean we are perfect people, for we still live in flesh bodies, and we are still tempted to sin, and we still have a propensity to sin, but we should no longer be walking in (enslaved to) sin, but we should now be walking in (enslaved to) righteousness, by God’s grace, and in his strength and power, according to the will and purpose of God who has called us.

 

We should be steadfast in our faith, daily walking with the Lord, daily saying “No!” to ungodliness and fleshly lusts and living self-controlled, upright, and godly lives, by God’s grace, and in his strength and power. We should be listening to the Lord’s counsel and we should be following him wherever he leads us in doing whatever it is he has called us to do for his glory.

 

We are those who have the hope of eternal life with God provided that we continue in that faith steadfast until the end, and provided we continue to walk according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh, and provided that we continue to walk in obedience to his commands and that we do not return to walking in practice according to our former sinful ways.

He is our comfort and our joy. He is our help and strength in times of trouble. He is our best friend, our companion, our husband, our confidant, the one in whom we place all our trust and confidence. He is our shield and our defense against the attacks of the enemy against us. For our heart is glad in him because we trust in him, for he holds our future in his hands.

 

I Know Who Holds Tomorrow

I don't know about tomorrow,

I just live from day to day.

I don't borrow from its sunshine,

For its skies may turn to gray.

I don't worry o'er the future,

For I know what Jesus said,

And today I'll walk beside Him,

For He knows what is ahead.

 

Many things about tomorrow,

I don't seem to understand;

But I know who holds tomorrow,

And I know who holds my hand.

 

I don't know about tomorrow,

It may bring me poverty;

But the one who feeds the sparrow,

Is the one who stands by me.

And the path that is my portion,

May be through the flame or flood,

But His presence goes before me,

And I'm covered with His blood.
