Psalms 119:49-50
“Remember your word to your servant,
in which you have made me hope.
This is my comfort in my affliction,
that your promise gives me life."
What is the word of God, to us who are followers of Jesus
Christ, in which we have put our hope? He promised to save us from our sins –
to deliver us from our slavery to sin and to give us new lives in him free from
the control of sin over our lives, if we would but put our trust in him by
dying with him to sin and by living to him and to his righteousness, walking in
obedience to his commands, all in his power and strength, and by his grace.
But this isn’t about just “getting saved” so we can escape
hell and so we can go to heaven when we die. This is about putting away our old
lives of living for sin and for self and being transformed of the Spirit of God
away from sin and to God to now walk in his holiness and righteousness. Now we
are given new lives in Christ Jesus, no longer as slaves to sin, but now as
slaves of God and of his righteousness, to the glory and praise of God.

Psalms 119:51-53
"The insolent utterly deride me,
but I do not turn away from your law.
When I think of your rules from of old,
I take comfort, O Lord.
Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked,
who forsake your law."
The insolent are the rude and disrespectful who do not
respect and honor God but who have created or who have adopted an alternate
gospel message so that they can keep on living in sin, only now without guilt.
They take the foundation of the true gospel and then they cut out the parts
that don’t agree with their lifestyles and they twist and turn the other
Scriptures to conform to their desired life practices.
Largely they cherry pick the Scriptures they like while they
ignore the ones they don’t like, and while they teach the ones they do like
largely out of context to make them say what the Scriptures do not teach. And these
misrepresentations of truth are now spreading far and wide like wildfire. And the
masses, at least in America, are accepting the lies over the truth.
So, where as Jesus said that if anyone would come after him
he must deny self and take up his cross daily (daily die to sin and to self)
and follow (obey) him, and if he doesn’t, that he doesn’t have eternal life
with him, these liars and deceivers are saying that all we have to do is
believe. But they exclude repentance, obedience, and honoring Christ as Lord
from “belief.” And many are even teaching that it is wrong to repent and to
obey the Lord.
But this isn’t just a difference of opinion here about what
the Scriptures teach regarding salvation from sin and eternal life with God.
This is about a gospel being taught as truth which is a big fat lie which is
delivering no one from his slavery to sin, and which is giving no one new lives
in Christ, and which is saving no one from hell but is sending them to hell on
the false hope of heaven when they die.
And it isn’t just that, but this false gospel is promoting
sin, and it is encouraging sin, and it is discouraging holiness, righteousness,
and walks of obedience to the Lord. And the fruit of all of that is a large
number of people calling themselves Christians who are still living in sin,
still engaged in all manner of evil, still deliberately, habitually, and
premeditatedly sinning against God in direct defiance of him and of his
commands.
But it isn’t just that, even, but it means all these people
now feel they have the freedom to keep on in their addictions to sin with God’s
blessings over their lives, and so sin is running rampant in the church.
Professing Christians are engaged in all kinds of wickedness – adultery,
fornication, the lusts of the flesh, greed, homosexuality, incest (sex with
blood family), lying, cheating, stealing, spousal abuse, child abuse, and mind manipulation,
etc.
And all this is destroying the spiritual life of the church
and of Christian households, and it is breaking up and destroying marriages,
and it is destroying the lives of young children who are now being exposed to
all these evils via electronic devices handed to them by their parents or via sexually
addicted adults sexually abusing young children. Just check the statistics for
yourself or ask someone who works in family court.
I was one of those casualties of a sex craved and angry and
mean parent who abused my mother and also me and my siblings when we were
young, not just sexually, but physically, mentally, and emotionally. He was a
big bully who took advantage of the weak, but we went to church every time the
doors were open, and we had to obey legalistic (not biblical) requirements.
But the church really did nothing to rescue us children
other than to talk my father into going into a mental hospital for a short
period of time, and only after I had reported him. But they never talked with
us or offered us any kind of counsel and they did nothing when the hospital
released him and let him back into the home only to continue with some of his
same addictive and abusive patterns of behavior, and that was in the 50s and
60s.
And that is back when repentance and obedience and holy
living were being taught and stressed in the evangelical churches of America.
And now it is a free-for-all because they don’t want to be judgmental, and they
don’t want to offend anyone. And so they soften the gospel message to make it
more appealing to the flesh. And look where we are now as the church and as a
nation. We have gone down the toilet, and we are being judged by God.
Psalms 119:54-56
"Your statutes have been my songs
in the house of my sojourning.
I remember your name in the night, O Lord,
and keep your law.
This blessing has fallen to me,
that I have kept your precepts.”
So, we need to hold on to the truths of the gospel, and we
need to be living the gospel, and we must be sharing the truth of the gospel
with others because the lies are permeating the modern church of today and not
many are hearing the truth anymore because not many are teaching the truth
anymore. So many men who are supposed to be leading us spiritually have fallen
by the wayside and they are leading their people to hell, instead.
So, hold on to Jesus and to the truth of his word. Don’t let
other humans be your Bible. Study the Scriptures for yourselves. Read the New
Testament (Matthew thru Revelation) word for word, in context, and pray and ask
the Holy Spirit to show you the truth. And then obey the truth of God’s word
and shine the light of the gospel for all to see by how you live your lives and
then by your verbal testimonies. The world needs to hear the truth!!

The Rock of My Heart
Lyricist: Bassford, Matthew W.; Psalm 73
Composer: Schales, Glenda Barnhart
My Lord, I need nothing beside You;
Without You, I could not have stood.
Your promise is my hope and my refuge;
Your nearness, my strength and my good.
When I was distressed and embittered,
By things I could not understand,
Your presence was continually with me;
You always took hold of my hand.
I know that Your counsel will guide me
In wisdom, devotion, and love,
And afterward You’ll call me to glory
To dwell in Your presence above.
My heart may be broken within me;
My earthly strength may depart.
But You are my portion forever,
You are the Rock of my heart.
You are the Rock of my heart.
