1 Peter 1:3-5 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)
“3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you, 5who through faith are shielded by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.”
Shielded by God’s Power
Through faith we are shielded by God’s power for the
salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. But what is faith? It
isn’t just words spoken or confessions made. And it isn’t from ourselves, of
our own doing. The faith to believe in Jesus Christ first comes from God, it is
then gifted to us by God, and it is persuaded of God as to His righteousness
and holiness, and of our sinfulness, and of our need to deny self, die to sin,
and to follow our Lord in obedience to His New Covenant commands. And the
Scriptures teach that faith = obedience, but a life of practicing disobedience
to God = unbelief.
[Matthew 7:21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 1:12-13; John 6:44;
Acts 26:18; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10;
Ephesians 4:17-32; Hebrews 12:1-2; Titus 2:11-14; 1 Peter 2:24]
Revealed in The Last Time
Our salvation from sin is also not a one time event which
takes place in our lives and now we are good to go for eternity, regardless of
how we live. Our salvation is progressive and ongoing and it will not be
completed until Jesus returns to take his faithful ones to be with Him for
eternity. So when we believe in Jesus with God-persuaded faith, we are saved. But
then we are being saved progressively, and we will be saved (future) IF we
continue in Christ in walks of obedience to His commands in holy living, by the
grace of God, and if we do not return to living in sin in disobedience to our
Lord.

1 Peter 1:6-9 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)
“6In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in various trials 7so that the proven character of your faith—more precious than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9now that you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
Suffering Grief in Various Trials
So God allows us to endure sufferings in this life so that
the proven character of our faith might result in praise, glory, and honor at
the revelation of Jesus Christ. And, again, we have a sentence here which
indicates that our salvation is something which is ongoing (progressive), which
will not be completed until Jesus returns for His bride, and which is dependent
on us continuing in Christ and in walks of obedience to His commands, and on us
no longer living as slaves to sin. For if sin is what we practice, and not
obedience to God, we don’t have eternal life with God.

5:3-5; 2 Corinthians 1:3-11; 2 Corinthians 4:17; Hebrews 12:3-12; James 1:2-4;

1 Peter 1:13-17 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)
“13Therefore prepare your minds for action. Be sober-minded. Set your hope fully on the grace to be given you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14As obedient children, do not conform to the passions of your former ignorance. 15But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, 16for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’ 17Since you call on a Father who judges each one’s work impartially, conduct yourselves in reverent fear during your stay as foreigners.”
As Obedient Children
All throughout the New Testament writings, when they are read
in their appropriate biblical context, and not out of context, we are taught
that faith in Jesus Christ, if it comes from God, and not from our flesh, must
result in us dying to sin and obeying our Lord in practice. And this is not to
say that we will never sin (1 John 2:1-2) but that sin must no longer be what
we practice (our habit). Now obedience to our Lord and righteous living must be
what we practice, how we live day by day, by the grace of God, and in the power
of God, as being led by the Spirit of God and not by human flesh.
Therefore, we are no longer to conform our lives to the ways
of this sinful world and of our human flesh. But we are to be those who obey
our Lord and His commands (New Covenant) in life practice. And we are to live
holy lives pleasing to God. And to be holy is to be separate (unlike, different)
from the world because we are being conformed to the likeness of Christ by our
Potter God who is molding and who is shaping us into His image when we yield
control of our lives over to Him and when we submit to His rule over our lives,
and when we do not resist Him and His work of grace in our lives.
For Jesus Christ taught that to come to Him we must deny
self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) Him. For
God’s grace, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce
ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and
godly lives while we wait for Jesus’ return. For it is not the one who claims
he is “in Christ” who is “in Christ,” but it is the one who has denied self,
died with Christ to sin, and who is now walking in obedience to our Lord and to
his commands, in practice, and no longer in sin. We have the hope and the
promise of eternal life with God in heaven (Luke 9:23-26; Romans 6:1-23; Titus
2:11-14; 1 John 1-3).
