I am reading in Revelation 9 about the kinds of things which will take place on the earth during the tribulation period prior to Christ’s return. One of them is that God will send locusts, with the power like that of scorpions, to torment all the people on the earth who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads, i.e. all who are not of genuine biblical faith in Jesus Christ. And the locusts are to do this for five months. In those days people will seek death and will not find it. They will long to die, but death will escape them. In addition to that a third of mankind will be killed by the three plagues of fire, smoke, and sulfur that will proceed from the mouths of horses. But..
Revelation 9:20-21 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)
“20Now the rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the works of their hands. They did not stop worshiping demons and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk. 21Furthermore, they did not repent of their murder, sorcery, sexual immorality, and theft.”
Now what comes to my mind is the number of people living on
the earth today who profess faith in Jesus Christ with their lips but whose
hearts are far from God. Many of them have had to suffer various kinds of “plagues,”
of sorts, against their bodies, or against their minds, or against their hearts,
yet still they will not repent of their sins and obey God. They have lost jobs
and incomes, some of them lost their spouses to divorce, and perhaps even their
children have abandoned them, but they keep on in their stubbornness.
I liken them to those who are habitual liars and deceivers
and manipulators and con artists. They are those who are self-serving
narcissistic chameleons who are lacking in compassion, caring, and sympathy,
who are hard-hearted egotistical abusers and users who use gaslighting as a
means to strike fear in some people in order to gain control over them. They
are double-minded people who profess one thing while they live another. And
they love playing mind games and twisting people’s words to upset them. They
are heartless.
They might be physical abusers but they are definitely
emotional abusers. And they might be cheaters and adulterers and the sexually
immoral who are addicted to their sins of choice. They are self-absorbed, the
selfish, and self-indulgent. And they are actors who can put on a good show in
front of others. They can be very winsome and charming people who are
well-loved by people who do not know them and who do not live with them and who
are not their objects on whom they use their gaslighting and mind-games, etc.
And they can be very hostile when they do not get their own way.
It is almost as though they are soulless, like robots, who
have no hearts and who have no consciences and who just do what they are
programmed to do. For they serve the devil and not God, even if they profess
faith in Jesus Christ. And some of them are murderers, and not all murders are
of a physical nature. For you can kill people emotionally by injuring their
hearts. And some of them are thieves who steal what is not theirs from other
people. And many of them are liars, adulterers, and the sexually immoral who are
lacking in conscience, in kindness, and in biblical remorse.
So when I read here this morning about those who were not
killed by the plagues and yet still they did not repent of the works of their
hands, what I wrote about above is what came to mind. For sadly we have many
people today, some or many of whom profess faith in Jesus Christ with their
lips, whose hearts are far from God, and who seem to be both heartless and
soulless. They seem to be lacking totally in consciences and in remorse, almost
as though they are not even human. And that is a sad reality.
The Gospel Message
But Jesus Christ taught that to come to Him we must deny
self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) Him. For if
we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity.
But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience
to our Lord and to His commands, in His power, then we have eternal life with
God. For not everyone who calls Him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven,
but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew
7:21-23).
For by God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our
own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ
to walk in newness of life in Him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as
slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no
longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires.
For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is
what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with
God (see Romans 6:1-23).

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.
Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.
