Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

To Whom Can I Give Warning?

Their Ears are Closed

Jeremiah 6:10 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“10To whom can I give this warning?

Who will listen to me?

Look, their ears are closed,

so they cannot hear.

See, the word of the LORD has become offensive to them;

they find no pleasure in it.”

What kinds of warnings are we given in the New Testament Scriptures? And what kinds of warnings should we be giving out to the people of our nations, and in the world at large in this day and age? The most critical of them all is that we must warn against false teachers and preachers who are preaching lies to the people, and against the false gospel message that so many of them are teaching to the people which is giving them a false hope of salvation. For the lies are sending many to hell on the promise of heaven.

Now Jesus Christ taught that to come to Him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die to sin daily, and suffer for the sake of righteousness), and follow Him in obedience to His commands. For if sin remains our practice, and not obedience to our Lord’s commands, we do not have salvation from sin nor eternal life with God. But sadly so many people professing faith in Jesus Christ are closing their minds and hearts and ears to this message, for they want to continue in deliberate and habitual sin without obedience.

When There is No Peace

Jeremiah 6:13-15 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“13For from the least of them to the greatest,

all are greedy for gain;

from prophet to priest,

all practice deceit.

14They dress the wound of My people

with very little care,

saying, ‘Peace, peace,’

when there is no peace at all.

15Are they ashamed of the abomination they have committed?

No, they have no shame at all;

they do not even know how to blush.

So they will fall among the fallen;

when I punish them, they will collapse.”

We live in a day and age, at least we do in the USA, when we have so many preachers and pastors and teachers of the Scriptures who are speaking lies to the people in order to tickle itching ears. They are convincing the people that a mere verbal confession of Christ as Lord is enough to secure them forgiveness of all sins and a permanent home in heaven with God when they die, or when Christ returns for His faithful bride, His church, the body of Christ. But that is not what Jesus and His apostles taught as the gospel.

So, why do they speak lies? For one, they want to attract the world to their gatherings, and the gospel message taught in the New Testament is not going to draw in large crowds of people from the world into their gatherings. It will offend most of them, in fact, for it demands death to sin and walks of obedience to God and to His commands as a matter of life practice. And it teaches that if sin remains our practice (our habit), and not obedience to God, we will not have the promise of eternal life with God guaranteed.

But these false teachers and preachers “dress the sin wound” of God’s people (and those who profess faith in Jesus with their lips only) as though it is not serious, and as though a mere “I believe in Jesus” confession takes care of it all and now they are good to go for eternity even though most of them are still living in addiction to sin, especially in the area of sexual immorality. And they tell them if they “prayed the prayer” that heaven is now guaranteed them and God’s grace covers all their habitual sins.

For this gets them more people coming to their “churches” if they soften the message of the gospel to make it less offensive to the people who they want to attract to their gatherings. And not only are they not ashamed of the lies which they teach, but they often will go after those who are speaking the truth in order to silence them by accusing them falsely of teaching “works salvation.” Thus, those who teach the lies and those who believe and live the lies will both hear Jesus say, “I never knew you. Depart from me.”
