Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

We Will Give Account

Introduction

Sometimes the Lord speaks to me in dreams or in visions, but they are more like parables to point me in a direction regarding the specific application the Lord would have me to make to a particular passage of Scripture, like Jesus did when he taught in parables. And sometimes he uses real life situations in the same way, as parables. And at other times he will use lyrics to songs, even secular songs, for the same purpose. And that is what he did today.

Now I am only familiar with the chorus to this song because I have heard it sung at sporting events, but it has been many years since I personally attended a sporting event, and we haven’t had a TV since 2008, so I guess it was probably something I saw on the internet. But the song is “We Will Rock You,” and today is the first time that I read all the lyrics. Now, if I don’t understand the lyrics to songs, I usually look them up in song meanings.

So, from what I read, it sounds as though this song is about a man, covering three stages of his life – childhood, midlife, and old age. In his youth and in his old age he is described as someone who has dirt (mud) on his face, but in his midlife he is described as having blood on his face, and in all three instances he is described as someone who is a big disgrace. And in his old age he is described as someone who actually made little progress in his life in a good direction, and as someone who is being faced with the same issues he was faced with as a child. So, the song is about vain, failed ambitions (1).

I believe the Lord put that song in my mind for a purpose, and along with that song he also included a song he gave me to write on 9/11/2012 called, “For Our Nation.” The song’s video references the events on 9/11/01, as well as the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the assassination of President Kennedy, war, and Hurricane Katrina, and it also references all our presidents who were still alive when I wrote the song, as well as some ones who had already died. And the song speaks of men deceiving and betraying and how our nation and its people need to repent of their sins and obey God today.

Now, my initial thought was that this other song was describing the life of an individual person who never made headway throughout his life to overcome the issues he faced in his childhood, and the reference to mud usually has to do with sin, and a person’s face is usually his character, so the idea would be that his character has not changed, and whatever sins he was involved in in his youth are still plaguing him in his old age. But added to that was “For Our Nation,” which was about America, so in that case the man is America.

Matthew 12:25,30,33-37 ESV

In verse 25 Jesus said this, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.” And in verse 30 Jesus said this, “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.”

And Jesus said, “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

So, what I am getting from this is that the Lord is directing this specifically to America, in reference to what I believe he is showing me today, but it is also in reference to individual lives. And I do believe that America is divided against herself, and she does have blood on her hands, particularly at the hands of our leaders. And it does appear that we, as a nation, are on a massive nosedive toward total destruction, particularly at the hands of our leaders, many who are deceiving and betraying. And although she claims to be one nation under God, the evidence is not there to support that claim.

Also, the church in America has largely deserted the Lord in order to follow after man and his marketing schemes for how to build their earthly kingdoms, and in order to adopt a diluted and altered characterization of God – Father, Son (Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit – and of the gospel of Jesus Christ and his message of salvation. And so much of the American church has gone the way of the world in order to attract the world to their gatherings and they are diluting the gospel to make it more acceptable to the ungodly and to appease them in their sins.

Now, with Jesus there is no middle ground. Either we are for him, or we are against him. This is not about absolute sinless perfection, though, but this is definitely about where our commitment lies, and whose side we are truly on, and who or what we obey, in practice, and if sin is what we practice, or if righteousness is what we practice. For the secular song painted a picture of the life of someone who is still living in the same filth as he was living in early on in his life, and he is still wallowing in the same mud. And that is a sad reality in the lives of even some who profess faith in Jesus Christ.

Now, some people may attempt behavioral modification, at times, to try to alleviate at least some sins, or to make it appear as though they are trying to change, but this passage makes it clear that the fruit that we bear shows where we really are in relationship to the Lord and to the faith we profess. And it also lets us know that sin is a heart issue, and so we have to go after sin at the heart level, or we will never be delivered. So, we end up acting out what is stored up in our hearts. So, please know that we are all going to be judged by what we do, in practice, whether as a nation, or as individuals.

For Our Nation

An Original Work / September 11, 2012

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.

Jesus Christ is gently calling

You to follow Him in all ways.

Trust Him with your life today.

Make Him your Lord and your Savior.

Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.

He will forgive you of your sin;

Cleanse your heart, made new within.

Men betraying: Our trust fraying.

On our knees to God we’re praying,

Seeking God to give us answers

That are only found in Him.

God is sovereign over all things.

Nothing from His mind escaping.

He has all things under His command,

And will work all for good.

Jesus Christ is gently calling

You to follow Him in all ways.

Men deceiving: We’re believing

In our Lord, and interceding

For our nation and its people

To obey their God today.

He is our hope for our future.

For our wounds He offers suture.

He is all we need for this life.

Trust Him with your life today.
