Psalms 1:1-6 ESV
“Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.”
We have to be so careful who we get our counsel from, for
not everyone is getting their counsel from the Lord, and from his Word, and
thus not everyone – whether a Christian counselor or a pastor or just another
person who professes faith in Jesus Christ – is going to give out godly and
biblical counsel. For many of them are walking in the counsel of the wicked and
not in the counsel of God. Many of them are being taught humanistic philosophy
and psychology in place of the counsel of God and of his Word.
And so it is so critical that we are in the word ourselves,
spending quality and quantity time with our Lord, not in reading a devotional
someone else wrote, but reading the Scriptures for ourselves, in context,
letting the Holy Spirit lead us to all truth. Now there is nothing wrong with
reading devotionals, but they cannot replace our time spent with God in his
word, for then we are only hearing what another person got from the word, and
we need to hear from our Lord directly.
And when we are spending time with the Lord each day in
quality and quantity time with him, letting him speak truth to our hearts, and
then applying those truths to our daily lives, we will bear spiritual fruit for
God’s eternal kingdom. For it should change us to be more like Jesus, to be
more holy and godly, and to be more obedient to our Lord and more loving, etc.
But then it should also bear fruit in the lives of people whose lives we touch
and influence, for that is the purpose of us sharing our times with the Lord
and his gospel message with one another.
But the wicked and the sinners, i.e. those for whom sin is
their practice, regardless of whether or not they profess faith in Jesus
Christ, they will not bear fruit for God’s eternal kingdom for they are still
living by the flesh and living like the ungodly. And so they will not enter
into God’s eternal kingdom even if they professed faith in Jesus Christ,
because they chose to follow their sins and the passions of their flesh rather
than to follow Jesus Christ in obedience to his commands (New Covenant).

Me, O God
An Original Work / July 12, 2012
Based
off Psalm 139
O Lord, You search and know me.
You know all that I do.
O Lord, You discern my ways.
I put my trust in You.
Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Where can I flee from Your presence?
Where’er I am, You are with me,
Guiding me in love.
O Lord, You search and know me.
You know all that I do.
O Lord, You discern my ways.
I put my trust in You.
O Lord, You made and formed me
In my own mother’s womb.
Your hands beautif’lly made me.
I give my praise to You.
My frame was not hidden from You
When I was made in the dark place.
All the days ordained for me
Were written in Your book.
O Lord, You made and formed me
In my own mother’s womb.
Your hands beautif’lly made me.
I give my praise to You.
O Lord, how precious to me
Are Your thoughts, O my God.
When I wake in the morning,
You are still here with me.
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offense.
Lead me in Your truth.
O Lord, how precious to me
Are Your thoughts, O my God.
When I wake in the morning,
You are still here with me.
