Isaiah
29:15-16 ESV
“Ah, you who hide deep from the Lord your counsel,
whose deeds are in the dark,
and who say, ‘Who sees us? Who knows us?’
You turn things upside down!
Shall the potter be regarded as the clay,
that the thing made should say of its maker,
‘He did not make me’;
or the thing formed say of him who formed it,
‘He has no understanding’”?
It appears there are many professing Christians today in
America who are giving lip service only to the Lord, but who are not walking in
obedience to his commands, and who are not walking in holiness and
righteousness, but they are still walking (in conduct, in practice) in sin. And
many of them are doing their evil deeds in secret where they think no one can
see and no one can know what they are doing. But God sees, and God knows, even
though many of them are being taught that he can’t see when they sin.
And I think the biggest culprit of sins done in secret is
sexual immorality, and more specifically the viewing of sexually explicit
material. For those who are doing so know that they are doing wrong, even if
they do try to justify their actions and to make excuses for them. For hiding
them so that no one knows what they are doing is a good indication right there
that they are well aware that they are sinning against God, and if married, they
are sinning against their spouses, too, which is why many of them hide what
they do.
But those are not the only sins being done in secret or that
involve immorality of some sort. For there are extra-marital affairs, too, and
there is cheating and being dishonest, and there is trickery and manipulation
and all sorts of underhandedness that is being done secretly by a lot of
people. And there is alcohol addiction, too, which is often done in secret, and
stealing, etc. So, it isn’t just the specific acts of sin which are sinful, but
it is the hiding of them from those to whom they are accountable in some way.
So, what they are doing, in essence, is denying the Lord and
raising themselves up to be their own gods and to determine for themselves what
is right and wrong, and thus making their own life choices regardless of God’s
moral laws, and regardless, too, of who they hurt in the process. They are
lowering God to someone he is not and they are making up their own gospel, too.
And many times they do this to ease their own consciences, even if they have
consciences, for not all do.
And so the lesson to be learned from this, I believe, is
that we need to be people of integrity who are honest and who don’t play mind
games and who don’t try to manipulate people and who don’t try to hide their
sins in secret, but who turn from their sins and who now follow Jesus Christ
with their lives. We need to honor Christ as Lord of our lives and walk in his
ways and in his truth and righteousness, and be people who obey him, too, in
practice. And then we also have the hope of eternal life with God.

Broken Cord
An Original Work / August 29, 2018
Your bond is broken
with your Lord and Savior
And your testimony
is separate from Him.
Your words not
matching your actions today.
Repent of your sin
and bow down and pray.
Live what you
testify in truth always.
Purity’s lacking in
your life and witness,
For you profess one
thing, but other you do.
Not moral,
spiritual. Still of the flesh.
Not living in truth
to what you confess.
Lying about it puts
you in a mess.
Living a lie is your
practice, ‘tis true of you.
Masquerade
righteousness – none of it true.
Your heart is not
given to your Lord God.
Because of how you
live, you are a fraud.
Turn from your sin
and give your life to God.
