Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

If We Will Let Him

“I lift up my eyes to the hills.

    From where does my help come?

My help comes from the Lord,

    who made heaven and earth.

“He will not let your foot be moved;

    he who keeps you will not slumber.

Behold, he who keeps Israel

    will neither slumber nor sleep.

“The Lord is your keeper;

    the Lord is your shade on your right hand.

The sun shall not strike you by day,

    nor the moon by night.

“The Lord will keep you from all evil;

    he will keep your life.

The Lord will keep

    your going out and your coming in

    from this time forth and forevermore.” (Psalms 121:1-8 ESV)

If we are looking to the Lord for help, in sincerity and in truth, because we are his by genuine faith in Jesus Christ, then he will provide us with the help that we need, according to his word, and depending upon our relationship with him. For he allows certain things to come into our lives to test our faith, to teach us perseverance, to make us holy, and to grow us to maturity in our walks of faith in the Lord. So the help that he will provide is also dependent on the work that he is doing in our lives, and what we need to learn.

[Matt 5:10-12; Matt 10:16-25; Matt 24:9-14; Luke 6:22-23; Luke 12:49-53; Luke 21:12-19; John 15:1-21; John 16:33; John 17:14; Acts 14:22; Rom 5:3-5; Eph 6:10-20; Phil 3:7-11; 1 Pet 1:6-7; 1 Pet 4:12-17; 2 Tim 3:12; 1 Thess 3:1-5; Jas 1:2-4; 2 Co 1:3-11; Heb 12:3-12; 1 Jn 3:13; Rev 6:9-11; Rev 7:9-17; Rev 11:1-3; Rev 12:17; Rev 13:1-18; Rev 14:1-13]

Also, if we are looking to the Lord for help, we need to be those who are listening to him and who are following him in obedience, in practice, and who will accept the help that he gives to us, for it may not always be exactly what we were hoping for, but it will always be what we need. And we should not ask for his help if we are going to wait to see what he offers before we decide if we will take it or not, for that is being double-minded, and the double-minded will not receive anything from the Lord (James 1:5-8).

And if our eyes are truly looking to the Lord for our help, then our minds are set on the things of God, and not on the things of the flesh, for we are looking to the Lord for our guidance and direction, and we are not looking to other humans to tell us what to do, nor are we looking to the wisdom of the world to lead us where we need to go. For our desire is to do the will of God and to do what pleases the Lord, even if we are persecuted by others, and even if we are not accepted by some people because of our faith in Jesus.

For when this says here that the Lord will not let our foot be moved, and that he will keep us from all evil, and that he will keep our going out and our coming in, this is dependent upon our eyes (discernment, judgment) remaining fixed on him and on his word and on his will and purpose for our lives, and that our minds and hearts have not strayed from the will and purpose of God to go our own way and to make our own life choices apart from the will of God for our lives (Romans 8:1-14).

In other words, we have to cooperate with God’s work in our lives, and we must be dependent upon him and his guidance and direction, and we must be those who are walking in his ways and in his truth and who are not resisting him or ignoring him, but while thinking that he is always going to rescue us. For if we choose our own way, apart from him, he will let us go, and he will let us suffer the consequences, and he will turn us over to our own devices until we choose to surrender to his will (Romans 1:18-32).

But when it says here that he will keep us from all evil, I believe it means that he will help us to not give way to the flesh and to sin, but he is not saying that no evil will be done against us, because he promises us that we will be hated and persecuted as he was if we choose to follow him with our lives in obedience to his commands and in holy living and no longer in sin. But if we want to be kept from evil, we have to cooperate with God and say “No!” to Satan, and “Yes!” to God (see Titus 2:11-14).

For all of God’s promises to us come with conditions. So if we want the promises to be fulfilled in our lives, then we need to adhere to the conditions for those promises to be fulfilled. For example, if we walk (in conduct) in deliberate and habitual sin, even though we may profess to be in relationship with Jesus Christ, and so we claim his promises to us, the Scriptures teach that we will not inherit eternal life with God but that we will face the wrath of God. So we let God help us when we do what he says.
