Video Talk
2 Timothy 1:5-7 ESV
“I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
What is sincere faith? It is faith which is genuine, and so
it is of God, for Jesus is the author and the perfecter of our faith (Hebrews
12:1-2), and it is gifted to us by God, and it is not of our own doing
(Ephesians 2:8-10), and we can’t even come to faith in Jesus Christ unless God
the Father draws us to Christ (John 6:44). And faith means to be persuaded, and
so it is God who persuades us as to his holiness and righteousness, and of our
sinfulness, and of our need to repent of our sins and to obey Jesus our Lord.
[Matt 7:21-23; Matt 24:9-14; Lu 9:23-26; Rom 1:18-32; Rom

3:6,14-15; Heb 10:23-31; Heb 12:1-2; Rev 21:8,27; Rev 22:14-15]
And what is the gift of God which we should fan into flame?
Well, Jesus Christ is God’s gift to us, and so is his grace and our salvation
from sin. And also coming from him is the gift of righteousness, the gift of
the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit, the gift of eternal life with God,
the gift of faith to believe in Jesus, the gift of bread from heaven (Jesus and
his word), and the Word of God, etc. All these we should fan into flame within
us in the power and working of God’s Spirit living within us.
[Jn 3:16; Rom 5:15-21; Rom 6:23; 2 Co 9:15; Eph 2:8-10; 2
Tim 1:5-7; Jn 1:9; Jn 3:34; Jn 4:14; Jn 6:32, 63; Jn 10:28; Jn 17:14]
So, what does it mean to fan into flame the gift of God
within us? Well, it means to set it on fire, to ignite it, to get it going and
active and alive within us to where it is in action in our lives and is active
in how we interact with other people, too. It means to live out the Christian
life with passion and enthusiasm for our Lord, and to walk in obedience and in
righteousness, and to utilize the gifts of the Spirit to encourage and to help
strengthen the body of Christ and to share the gospel with other people.
And we are not to fear what other humans will think about us
or say about us or do to us. But we are to put into practice the power of God
within us and the love of God, which is holy and righteous and pure, and we are
also to exercise self-control. So if someone is doing something they say is in
the Spirit but it leads them to be out-of-control, then that is not coming from
the Holy Spirit, but it could be coming from demonic spirits. So guard your
hearts against such things by testing the spirits to see if they are of God.

Come
and See
An
Original Work / May 20, 2013
Based
off John 1:35-51
John, the Baptist, called of God to
Make straight the way for the Lord,
Told his disciples about Jesus,
So two of them followed Him.
One of them who followed Jesus
Told his brother, Simon Peter,
Who then he brought to the Savior,
Who had told them, “Come and see.”
Jesus Christ, our Lord, Messiah,
On his way to Galilee found a man, Philip,
So he told him, “I want you to follow Me.”
Philip then found his friend,
And he told him, “We have found the one
The prophets spoke of – He is Jesus!”
Philip then said, “Come and see.”
Jesus saw the man, Nathanael,
While he sat beneath a fig tree,
Even before Philip called him,
So Nathanael did believe.
Nonetheless the Lord said,
“You believe because of what I told you.
You will see much greater things than these
If you will Come and see.”
Jesus’ calling to each one of us.
He tells us to believe in Him
As our Lord and Messiah,
And to follow where He leads.
He says we must turn from our sins,
Die to sin and self each day,
And put on our new lives in Jesus;
Bow before Him; humbly pray.
