Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

Love is, Love Does Not

Video Talk

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 ESV

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

I looked up these word definitions in the biblehub.com interlinear and in Oxford Languages Dictionary on Google.com, and the following is what I learned. And my comments are after the /.

Love – Interlinear: (agape) centers in moral preference, preferring what God prefers. / What God prefers is holiness, righteousness, godliness, honesty, moral purity, faithfulness. So, this is not human-based love which is based on human emotions and/or on the one we are loving.

Patient – Interlinear: to persevere, to defer anger, refusing to retaliate with anger, the opposite of being quick tempered. Dictionary: able to accept or tolerate delays, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious. / I believe both of these apply.

Kind – Interlinear: full of service to others. Dictionary: having or showing a friendly, generous, and considerate nature. / We have to be careful that we interpret this biblically, because culture defines kindness sometimes in a way that is opposite of what the Scriptures teach, like culture may say that it is kind to lie to people, but it is never kind to lie to anyone.

Envy – Interlinear: jealousy. Dictionary: a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions, qualities, or luck / I believe both of these apply, but I believe we can be jealous with a godly jealousy with regard to adultery in a marriage and spiritual adultery within the church in our relationships with Christ (EX: 2 Corinthians 11:1-2).

Boast – Interlinear: to act as a braggart, i.e. a "show off" who needs too much attention. Dictionary: talk with excessive pride and self-satisfaction about one's achievements, possessions, or abilities. / I believe both of these apply and that this fits with this next one:

Arrogant – Interlinear: like an egotistical person spuing out arrogant ("puffed-up") thoughts. Dictionary: having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities; prideful, conceited / both apply.

Rude – Interlinear: without proper shape or form, to act improperly, indecently. Dictionary: offensively impolite or ill-mannered, discourteous, not showing proper respect. / I would go more with the biblical definition here because this is another one which can be interpreted by our culture and that can sometimes go against the word of God. Like for example, someone might consider us rude if we are sharing the gospel.

It does not insist on its own way. / Love is unselfish.

Irritable – Interlinear: become emotionally provoked and roused to anger. Dictionary: having or showing a tendency to be easily annoyed or made angry; bad-tempered, testy, grumpy. / I believe both apply.

Resentful – Dictionary: feeling or expressing bitterness or indignation at having been treated unfairly. / (or at the perception of having been treated unfairly). And love does not trade tit for tat, it does not get even, it does not hold on to resentment.

Does not rejoice at wrongdoing / (sinful acts, such as lying, cheating, stealing, committing adultery, deceiving others, trickery, gossiping, falsely accusing). Love finds no joy in sinful acts.

But rejoices with the truth. / As God defines truth, not as man does.

All things” / according to the word of God, all things pertaining to what we should, as followers of Christ, bear with (forbear), believe, hope, and endure. For we are not to believe lies, and we are not to put our hope in false gods, etc. So, “all things” has to be defined biblically.

Follow Him

An Original Work / February 21, 2013

Based off Luke 9:22-25

Jesus, Son of God,

Died for us on a cross.

Anyone who would come to Him

Must deny himself and follow.

He must take up his cross daily;

Die to sin and self each day.

Father, God above,

Loved us so: gave His Son.

If you want to save your old life;

Keep on sinning, follow your ways,

You will lose your life forever;

Hope of heaven gone away.

Spirit of our God

Gives us life in God’s Son.

Nonetheless, if you die to self;

Forsake your sin; follow Jesus,

You will live with God in heaven,

And forever praise His name!
