Romans 13:8-10 ESV
“Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, ‘You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,’ and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.”
If we are going to love each other with this kind of love,
then we need to know what this kind of love is. First of all God is love, and
this love comes from him, and it prefers what he prefers, which is what is
holy, righteous, godly, morally pure, upright, honest, and faithful, etc. So if
we who believe in Jesus Christ are loving each other with this love, then we
will not willfully do to others what we know is going to cause them harm.
So, if someone says, “I love you,” and then he (or she) turns
around and deliberately, and perhaps even habitually, sins against you, then
that is not love. So, “I love you” are just words he (or she) says, perhaps to
get what they want, if the words are followed with doing against you what is
willful harm. And sadly, this is the practice of many, since many professing
Christians are living in deliberate and habitual sin.
And sadly so, sexual immorality, sensuality, and adultery (as
Jesus defined adultery) is running rampant in the church today, or at least in
the gatherings of the institutional market-driven “churches” (businesses). And
that goes right along with hate, and Jesus compared murder to hate, for adultery,
especially habitual, is hate, not love. And adultery can be physical, mental,
or emotional, and murder can be only in one’s heart.
So, if we love each other with this love which prefers what
is honest, faithful, morally pure, righteous, and godly, etc., then we are not
going to commit adultery or murder people in our hearts, and we are not going
to hate each other and willfully do each other harm. And we are not going to
mouth empty words of love and then turn right around and sin against those who
we claimed to love.
Instead we are going to do for others what is for their
good, for their benefit, and what will not bring them harm. Now we may offend
them with the gospel message, but that is for their good, not for their harm, although
they may not see it that way. And we will not pacify them in their sin, and
that is for their good, and not to harm them. But we will be kind and
considerate and thoughtful and will show the love of God by our actions towards
others.

People walk in darkness.
They abide in their sin.
It has power o’er them.
True belief escapes them.
Jesus Christ came to save them.
He gave His life up for them;
Crucified; died for our sin,
So we might be forgiven,
And have life up in heaven.
Many come to know Him.
God’s love now o’erflows them.
They rejoice in vict’ry.
Their sin is but hist’ry.
We were once bound in slav’ry.
Jesus lifted our burdens;
Set us now free from Satan,
So we now walk in freedom.
Sin has no more dominion.
Praise be to our Savior!
He showed us His favor.
He took all our burdens;
Cast them all upon Him.
He is our mediator;
The Light which shines in darkness.
Counselor in our troubles;
He gives peace now in our hearts;
Joy which is everlasting.
