Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

Turn Back the Battle

Monday, February 17, 2014, 9:50 p.m. – the Lord Jesus put the song “Living Water” in my mind. Speak, Lord, your words to my heart. I read Isaiah 28. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah+28&version=NIV

The Fading Flower

Woe to that wreath, the pride of Ephraim’s drunkards,
    to the fading flower, his glorious beauty,
set on the head of a fertile valley—
    to that city, the pride of those laid low by wine!

Samaria was the capital city of Ephraim, the northern kingdom of Israel. It was a prideful city filled with luxury and self-indulgences. “Ephraim’s drunkards” appears to be a reference to its supposed spiritual leaders. They may have been literally drunk on wine, and/or they may have been inebriated by their own sense of pride, arrogance, and/or believing in their own lies and their feeling that nothing could bring them down. Their capital city sat on a hill and was their crown, their floral wreath on their heads. Yet, the Lord described this floral wreath – their capital city – as a fading flower.

The Lord has one who is powerful and strong. He will use this divine instrument of judgment, which he compared to a hailstorm, a destructive wind, a driving rain and a flooding downpour, to throw this capital city forcefully to the ground. It will be trampled underfoot. It will be swallowed up by God’s judgment. The Lord brought the scripture to mind here – “For we know him who said, ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ and again, ‘The Lord will judge his people.’ It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Heb. 10:30-31 NIV ’84).

As I prayerfully considered this before the Lord, I believe he gave me a picture of the U.S. government, for those of us who live in the USA, as the pride of the institutional church in the USA, i.e. their floral wreath worn on their heads. The institutional church (incorporated under 501c3) is under the headship of the U.S. government. In most of these institutions of men, the flag of the U.S. government is prominently displayed at the front of the sanctuary so that the “worshipers” can always see the USA flag before them. On certain occasions, the church leaders even lead their people to pledge allegiance (loyalty; commitment; adherence; faithfulness; fidelity), with hand over heart, to the U.S. government. The institutional church gives honor to the US government and preference to the government over God’s commands where the government stipulates what a minister of God can or cannot say from the pulpit. This worship of the US government is taught so strongly in the church and in schools today that anyone challenging the actions of the government may be treated as a blasphemer of Almighty God. This sets the church up for falling under the deception of the evil one, so that the people blindly follow these leaders to their destruction.

Befuddled with Wine

The drunkards are the leaders of the people – could include political leaders, judges, pastors, elders, etc. – anyone in a position of religious and/or governmental authority over the people of God. This staggering from wine could be literal and/or it could be figurative, describing those who lack spiritual discernment and judgment of God. A table is a place where decisions are made; plans are put together, etc., yet the Lord describes their tables (places where they make their decisions) as covered with vomit and that there is not a spot without filth. I did a search on the word “vomit,” and it rendered “bile,” which rendered “bitterness; irritability; temper; wrath; anger; fury; rage,” which then fits with what Isaiah states next. He is quoting these “religious leaders” here:

“Who is it he is trying to teach?
   To whom is he explaining his message?
To children weaned from their milk,
   to those just taken from the breast?
For it is:
   Do and do, do and do,
   rule on rule, rule on rule;
   a little here, a little there.” NIV ‘84

These “religious” leaders of the people were mocking the words of God given to Isaiah, God’s messenger to the people. They were insulted that God would use Isaiah to speak to them, kind of like Balaam and his donkey, i.e. what an insult that God would use a lowly donkey to be God’s messenger to Balaam. The donkey saw with spiritual eyes, but Balaam did not, so he kept beating the donkey until God finally spoke through the donkey and opened Balaam’s eyes to what he was doing. Isaiah declared the word of God to these “inebriated spiritual guides” of the people. They questioned what right this prophet (messenger) of God had to teach them the spiritual milk of God’s word. They didn’t like it that Isaiah was telling them God’s commandments for them for holy living. They don’t want anyone telling them that God has rules for daily living of the Christian life that we, as Christ’s followers, must follow. They like the false grace messages that tells them that God does not require repentance and obedience as part of believing faith, by his grace, and that he is pleased with them no matter what they do, so that they can continue in their sin and in their willful rebellion with a false sense of security in what they falsely call God’s grace.

So, God has declared his judgment against these blind guides of the people. He will send foreigners against them to “speak” to this people. They will be judged by God because of their failure to hear the word of the Lord, as found in the Bible, which could have led them (back) into a right relationship with God. They don’t want to hear God’s truths. Fine! The next message will come through foreigners. It would now be through judgment that God would speak to his people. And, this will happen to the church here in the USA, too, if they do not repent of their stubborn rebellion against Almighty God, and if they continue to reject God’s words concerning what God requires of them in living in holiness and obedience to Christ. God keeps calling out to them to enter into his rest and to be saved (and/or revived spiritually), but they will not listen. Confidence in people’s own wisdom and abilities stands as a barrier to hearing the word of God and to following Jesus Christ in humble obedience.

These “blind guides” to the people scoffed at the words of God. They really thought they were untouchable and that no harm would come to them - The reason? They believed their own lies, i.e. they made their own lies their refuge and falsehood their hiding place. In other words, they were trusting in lies and were hiding their evil deeds behind falsehood thinking that God would not see and that God would not act against them. That is the ultimate in pride and arrogance.

A Stone in Zion

Even though these wicked leaders were bent on refusing and mocking God’s words to them because of their pride, God was still calling out to them to enter into his salvation, because he is a God of grace and he is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. So, if they repented of their sin of unbelief, and if they chose truly to walk in the ways of the Lord from this day forward, God would restore them to fellowship with him and with his Son, Jesus Christ. Yet, if they refused God’s words, Jesus Christ, the stone in Zion (a fortress of salvation to the believer), would become a stumbling block over which human beings would fall to their spiritual deaths. Jesus Christ himself was rejected by the religious leaders of his day, and he is God. No wonder men still reject the truths of God’s word, because they rejected Christ through whom those words come.

So, if they continue to refuse God’s words on holy living, and they choose to continue in their own stubborn ways of rebellion against Almighty God, God will sweep away their refuge, i.e. their lie, and water will overflow their hiding place, i.e. their falsehood. This judgment of God would be continuous and often – morning by morning and day and night it will sweep through. This sounds like the time of tribulation which will be one judgment followed by another followed by another. Yet, the Lord is still speaking. He is saying, “Stop your mocking or your chains will become heavier.” “Listen to my voice; pay attention and hear what I say.” Allow God to instruct you and to teach you the right way, not the way of falsehood, lies and deception. “Wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom” is the word that comes from the LORD Almighty.

At The Gate

In that day the Lord Almighty
    will be a glorious crown,
a beautiful wreath
    for the remnant of his people.
He will be a spirit of justice
    to the one who sits in judgment,
a source of strength
    to those who turn back the battle at the gate.

In that Day of Judgment the LORD Almighty will be a glorious crown for his people, unlike the floral wreath of the capital city previously worn on their heads in pride. He will be a “spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.” I believe this “turning back the battle at the gate” has to do with those who have resisted Satan’s lies and deceptions and temptations in their own lives, as well as this represents those who are actively involved in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in order to turn back this battle of Satan against God’s people, and at the gate of human’s hearts so that people can be saved, so they can be free from the power of Satan and sin over their lives, and so that they no longer allow Satan and sin to overcome them. They stop it at the gate. For those who have done this, i.e. for those who have “turned the battle back at the gate,” God will be their refuge and strength. This does not mean they will not suffer or even die for their faith in Jesus Christ and for his gospel, but it means that he will be with them even in death and he will bring them safely into his glorious presence.

Though God/Jesus Christ will be a stumbling block for those who trust in humans and in their own resources (lies, deception, pride), he is a precious cornerstone and a sure foundation for those who put their trust in the Lord. They will never be dismayed. Their God will instruct them in the right way; the way of holiness; and in walking in the light of truth. Wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom is the LORD Almighty to those who put their trust in him and in him alone. He will comfort them in times of distress with his love.

Living Water / An Original Work / November 21, 2013

Based off Various Scriptures

My people have forsaken Me,
Their Savior, who died on a tree;
Made idols, and they worshipped them;
So empty, they will ne’er fulfill.

Lord, You are the hope of Your chosen ones.
Those who turn away from You will be shamed;
The Spring of Living Water left behind.

Living Water satisfies.

The thirsty, let them come and drink;
Believe in Jesus as their King;
The gift of Jesus given them,
So they will never thirst again.

Indeed, the Living Water flows within.
It springs up like a fountain cleansing sin.
Eternal life in heaven promised them.

Living Water glorifies.

Oh people, won’t you come to Him?
Obey Him and repent of sin.
Let Jesus come and live within.
Surrender all your life to Him.

My people, won’t you turn your hearts to Me?
Forsake your idols and then you’ll be free.
Won’t you come now to Me on bended knee?

Living Water sanctifies.

Who Are the Guilty?

Monday, February 17, 2014, 9:08 a.m. – the Lord Jesus put the song “He Lifted Our Burdens” in my mind. Speak, Lord, your words to my heart. I read Isaiah 27 (NIV).

The Leviathan

In that day,

the Lord will punish with his sword—
    his fierce, great and powerful sword—
Leviathan the gliding serpent,
    Leviathan the coiling serpent;
he will slay the monster of the sea.
In that day—

A Leviathan is a large sea monster or beast, often a reference to or associated with Satan in the Bible. This brings to mind the “beast out of the sea” spoken of in Revelation 13, which is a reference, I believe, to some type of world-wide global government which rules the earth for a short and predetermined period of time. This monstrous government is not only a “monster” because of its size, and because of its consumption of the governments and nations of the world, but because of its cruelty, oppression, enslavement, persecution, mistreatment, rape, murder, destruction, ravaging and pillaging of all that is weaker and defenseless against its power and force, including, but not limited to the persecution and murdering of Christians. This “Monster” is also characterized by its deception, lies, and cover-ups, and by its cleverness in distracting people from its plans and operations, by diverting attention to other things of less importance, or other things of its own creation, or by casting blame on other people groups for its own crimes against humanity.

The United States Government and its military force is party to or has led the way in this rise of this global “beast” government in taking over other nations of the world by force, intrigue, deception and false accusations. The US/UN/New World Order “Beast/Leviathan” goes around the world creating chaos so that they can come in as “savior,” so they can take over the nations of the world one by one, which they have been doing successfully for some time now. They blame other governments (regimes) of being evil, cruel, inhumane, and of committing such atrocities as rape, murder, enslavement, bombings, and spying on their own people, etc. They accuse these other governments of crimes against humanity all the while they are just as guilty or even more guilty or perhaps the only guilty because they often accuse falsely just to have an excuse to come in and take over other governments. So, when you read the news about what is going on in other nations, and you read the accusations made by the UN or by the US, via the government-controlled media, know that these are most likely all lies, and that we are not the “good guys” and the world “saviors.”

Many of the crimes against humanity being charged against these governments of various nations are the same things our government is presently doing, has in the works, and/or plans to do in the very near future, not only throughout the world in other nations, but in our own nation and against their/our own people. If we read the NDAA 2014 alone, we get a picture of a president who can now, at will, arrest American citizens just on the suspicion of being a threat to the US (regime), and can hold them indefinitely without due process of legal counsel or a day in court. From what I have read, American citizens can also be killed by use of Drones at the president’s order just on the suspicion of being a threat to national security. The government of the US has also encouraged US citizens to spy on one another and to report what they see to the government, as well as the NSA is actively involved in collecting our phone calls, texts, blog posts, social media posts, et al, to be used against us.

And, not only that, but within the USA reportedly there are at least 800 FEMA camps set up for the purpose of detaining US citizens and/or in the event of a National Emergency situation. Some people liken these to Hitler’s Concentration Camps. Also, it has been reported that there are FEMA plastic coffins numbering in the hundreds of thousands that are also being stored and ready in case of a National Emergency. I have not personally seen these or the FEMA camps, so I cannot verify their existence, but there is much information about them on the internet.

Many believe our government/N.W.O. has set all this up for a planned catastrophe of some sort in the US. It is inevitable that something of this magnitude will eventually take place given the times in which we now live, and given the global agenda of this “Leviathan,” and given the political, financial and spiritual pulse of the global world in which we now live. I believe very much that if we do the homework and we read the laws our government is passing, and if we do the math and look at what our government is doing in their spending, logic alone dictates that we must see the “handwriting on the wall” for the US, for our government, if nothing else, is guilty of sending this nation of ours into financial bankruptcy.

The Lord’s Vineyard

“Sing about a fruitful vineyard:
    I, the Lord, watch over it;
    I water it continually.
I guard it day and night
    so that no one may harm it…”

A vineyard is a word sometimes used in scripture in reference to the family of God - God’s chosen people, now the body of Christ, the true church. We are under the watch and care of our Lord. He has complete and total rule, authority and dominion over all powers, rule and authority in this world, over all that he created, and over his church. All things were created by him and for him. In him all things hold together. He is completely sovereign over all. He is the shepherd, rock, fortress, guard, shelter, and refuge for all those who have trusted in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their lives, by God’s grace, through faith. Nothing can harm us but what God allows it, he allows it for a purpose, and that he will protect, guide and lead us spiritually through it, as well as he will empower and strengthen us so that we can stand firm in our faith and endure to the end. Nothing can destroy what Jesus Christ did for us in dying on the cross for our sins. Nothing can destroy or remove his love and his grace from us. Humans may be able to persecute us, inflict pain and suffering, and even kill us for our faith in Christ, and/or because they hate us, and/or just because they can, but they cannot put to death our salvation or our hope of eternity with God in heaven. Amen!

The Last Days

All throughout the book of Isaiah is the theme of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, our Lord, as Savior. Chapter 53 describes the suffering he would go through, and the death he would die for the sins of the entire world. In the context of the Messiah and the Messianic age, Isaiah shared many prophecies concerning the last days and the things that would take place. In these prophecies he described God’s chosen people, many of whom had become spiritually adulterous and idolatrous, needing to experience spiritual revival but resisting God’s voice and continuing on their own course of following after their own self-will. So, God plans to visit his adulterous people in judgment (See Rev 2-3), yet his purpose is always to bring them back to unadulterated faith in him as their only God, and for them to turn from their sins and to reject all their idols so that they can worship him truly in spirit and in truth.

I believe scripture teaches and prophecies of God having used and how he will use evil people and evil entities (the beast, for instance) as his divine instruments of judgment, not only against an evil world, but against his adulterous church (see Rev 2-3), and that when that time of judgment comes upon the earth, the church will be revived and many people will flock to faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their lives. I believe scripture also teaches and prophecies of God using these evil humans as his instruments for him to purify his people and to make them holy, and that once he has accomplished his purposes, he will then turn against those divine instruments of judgment, and he will judge them. This has already taken place many times throughout Biblical history, and I believe the Bible teaches this with regard to the last days, as well. And, I believe very much so that we are already seeing some of this take place via the US/Allies/N.W.O. in its cruelty and consumption of the peoples, nations and governments of the world presently, as well as in their persecution and murdering of Christians.

The Light Has Dawned

There are many people in this world who are walking in spiritual darkness. Sin has dominion over their lives. They are in slavery to the passions of their fleshly desires. They cannot please God. They have no hope for life everlasting with God, their creator and Savior.

Yet, Jesus Christ died on a cross to save them. He crucified and buried our sins with him, and then he rose from the grave in victory over sin and death. He did this so we might be forgiven our sins, and so we might have eternal life with God in heaven; so we could be set free from the burden of sin, and so we could walk in victory in the Spirit of God within us.

The way we come to know him is by receiving his free gift of salvation by faith, submitting to the work of the Spirit in transforming our hearts away from the darkness of sin to walking in the light of Jesus Christ and his love.

He Lifted Our Burdens / An Original Work / February 15, 2014

Based off Isaiah 9:2-7

People walk in darkness.
They abide in their sin.
It has power o’er them.
True belief escapes them.

Jesus Christ came to save them.
He gave His life up for them;
Crucified; died for our sin,
So we might be forgiven,
And have life up in heaven.

Many come to know Him.
God’s love now o’erflows them.
They rejoice in vict’ry.
Their sin is but hist’ry.

We were once bound in slav’ry.
Jesus lifted our burdens;
Set us now free from Satan,
So we now walk in freedom.
Sin has no more dominion.

Praise be to our Savior!
He showed us His favor.
He took all our burdens;
Cast them all upon Him.

He is our mediator;
The Light which shines in darkness.
Counselor in our troubles;
He gives peace now in our hearts;
Joy which is everlasting.

Our Sanctuary

Thursday, February 13, 2014, 1:11 p.m. – the Lord Jesus put the song “I Do Not Seal My Lips” in my mind. Speak, Lord, your words to my heart. I read Isaiah 8 (quoting selected verses in the NIV).

Gently Flowing Waters

The Lord spoke to me again:

“Because this people has rejected
    the gently flowing waters of Shiloah
and rejoices over Rezin
    and the son of Remaliah,
therefore the Lord is about to bring against them
    the mighty floodwaters of the Euphrates—
    the king of Assyria with all his pomp…
Raise the war cry, you nations, and be shattered!
    Listen, all you distant lands.
Prepare for battle, and be shattered!
    Prepare for battle, and be shattered!
Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted;
    propose your plan, but it will not stand,
    for God is with us.

God’s people, as a nation, had rejected his rule and authority over their lives and had, instead, turned to human alliances for their security and support. They were dedicated to a path of trust in humankind, instead of in Almighty God – their creator God, Savior and King. God’s rule and authority over them was described as gently flowing waters by comparison to the rule they were about to encounter because of their rebellion against God – a rule which was described as mighty floodwaters which would overflow the banks of the river and would consume and overtake their land, i.e. evidently speaking of the Assyrian king and his army.

“Flowing waters” or “living water” is a phrase, or ones similar to it, used in scripture to describe the Spirit of God and his work in the life of the believer in Jesus Christ. Jesus told the woman at the well that the living water he gives would become in the one who “drinks” it a “spring of water welling up to eternal life” (See Jn. 4). Our perfect Lamb, Jesus Christ, is our shepherd who leads and will lead us to “springs of living water” (See Rev. 7:17). As well, Jesus said that he will give to the thirsty water without cost from the spring of the “water of life” (See Rev. 21:6). This living water symbolizes the Spirit of God, yet it also symbolizes our salvation. When we trust in Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of our lives, by God’s grace, through faith, he indwells us with his Spirit, and his Spirit within us springs up within us and gives us life in the Spirit; the very life and essence of God living within us.

When we place our faith and trust in Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of our lives, we submit and surrender to his Lordship over our lives. We willingly submit to the cross of Christ in our lives in allowing the Spirit of God to transform our hearts and lives away from the darkness of bondage to sin and toward a walk of faith and fellowship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and with God the Father - allowing his “living water” to now well up within us, and for Christ to live out his life of righteousness through us. We are saved by God’s grace, through faith, which is also a gift of his grace – a faith which submits to the working of God’s grace within us, and which yields to the leading, guidance and direction of the Spirit of God, and which does not resist God’s work of grace in our lives.

Yet, it is possible that those who have once submitted to the cross of Christ, and who have once yielded to the working of the Spirit in their lives, to drift away from that pure devotion to Jesus Christ and to be in great need of revival (See Rev. 2-3). And, it is possible, as well, that those who once trusted in the leadership of the Spirit in their lives to now move away from that sincere trust and to instead begin to put their faith in humankind, and in human leadership, over and above, and even in place of their trust in God. This grieves the Spirit of God, for we were bought with a price, and therefore we are to honor God with our lives.

Jesus Christ died so that we would be set free from slavery to sin and free from following after our own flesh, not so we would go right back to what once enslaved us. So, in essence, when we choose to trust (put our hope and security) in humans or in the things of this world over God, we are doing much the same as the people of God in Isaiah’s day, for we reject the authority and rule of our gentle shepherd in favor of a return to slavery and idolatry and the potential of choosing for ourselves another “King Saul” to rule over us.

Do Not Follow

This is what the Lord says to me with his strong hand upon me, warning me not to follow the way of this people:

“Do not call conspiracy
    everything this people calls a conspiracy;
do not fear what they fear,
    and do not dread it.
The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy,
    he is the one you are to fear,
    he is the one you are to dread.
He will be a holy place;
    for both Israel and Judah he will be
a stone that causes people to stumble
    and a rock that makes them fall.

So, the Lord God says to all his children that we are not to follow the ways of people, but the ways of God. He called us to be separate from the sinful world around us and to not adopt their ways as our own. Certainly we are to live in the world, we are to be lights for the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world, we are to take the gospel to the world and to make followers of Christ of people of all nations, and we are to love the people of the world as God loves the world and gave himself up for the people. Yet, we are not to be on friendly terms with the sinful world, we are not to partner with the people of this sinful world, and we are not to live like we did when we were separate from Christ and still dead in our sins. We, as the church, are also not to become like the world in order to “win” the world.

We are not to pattern our thinking, feelings, emotions, decisions, values, attitudes, language and/or behaviors after this sinful world, but after God, and after the truths of his word. The world’s way of thinking has infiltrated the church BIG TIME to where many professing followers of Christ cannot differentiate between what is of God and what just sounds good, and so they often go with the flow and what makes people like them, and what makes them popular, accepted and included with the majority of folks. They think if it sounds good and it feels good that it must be of God, but it may not be. This is why we must be serious students of scripture, not just so we can spout off knowledge, but so we can follow in Christ’s ways and submit to his Lordship over our lives and not get caught up in following after the thinking and values of the people of this world. We are not to adopt the culture of our day into our lives in order to be “relevant,” but we are to adopt the teachings of Christ into our lives in order to be fruitful for God’s eternal kingdom.

We are also not to be afraid to be mocked, criticized, ostracized, ridiculed, despised, rejected, ignored, gossiped about and/or excluded from groups of people because we don’t think and act like the majority of people, and because we don’t adopt the ways of our culture, and because we do stand out sometimes like a sore thumb because we choose to follow the ways of God over the ways of humankind. And, we should not fear if they even try to convince us that we are somehow crazy, weird, strange or not with it because we believe in God and in the truths of his word and because we choose to do what he says, though not perfectly. Many people fear being rejected by others and so they conform their ways to the patterns of this world in order to fit in and to be liked. We should not fear what they fear, and we should not join them in their mockery of those who choose to be different.

I Will Wait

I will wait for the Lord,
    who is hiding his face from the descendants of Jacob.
I will put my trust in him.

Instead, we are to wait on the Lord, we are to put our hope and trust in him, and we should continue to follow his ways, and to walk in the Spirit and in sincere faith, and to believe that God is fully sovereign above all things, that he has a plan and a purpose for our lives in all that we are going through, and that he will work all things in our lives out for good (for those who love God and who have been called according to his purpose). And, we are to keep on keeping on in loving our Lord and in loving God’s people and in ministering his love and grace to the people of this world, following Jesus’ example to us. And we, as well, are to continue sharing his gospel of salvation even in the face of great persecution or even at the risk of losing our lives. Instead of giving way to the fear of humankind or what they might think of us, and even to fear when they seem to succeed temporarily in their evil plans, we are to revere, respect, honor, value, esteem, praise, give glory to and submit our lives and our future to the King of kings and the Lord of lords, believing God’s will and purposes will be accomplished both in and through our lives for his praise and for his glory.

I Do Not Seal My Lips / An Original Work / January 13, 2014

Based off Psalms 37, 40

Do not fear when evil man
Has success in all their plans,
For like grass they’ll wither soon.
They’ll be cut off from the land.

Trust in the Lord and He’ll give you peace.
Find your delight in Him through all stress.
All of your ways commit unto Him.
All your desires from Him He’ll fulfill.

Wait for the Lord; keep His way.
Delight in His Word always.
He’ll be with you to the end;
Life eternal found in Him.

I waited patiently for my Lord.
He turned to me, and He heard my cry.
He set my feet on the Solid Rock.
He gave to me a firm place to stand.

Blessed are we, who trust the Lord,
Who do not turn to false gods.
Our desire’s to do God’s will.
His word is within our hearts.

I will proclaim salvation to man.
You put a new song now in my mouth.
I’ll not withhold your love and your grace.
I’ll speak forevermore of your truth.

Do Not Lose Heart!

Wednesday, February 12, 2014, 8:15 a.m. – The Lord Jesus put the song “Have Thine Own Way, Lord” in mind this morning. Speak, Lord, your words to my heart. I read Isaiah 7 (quoting selected verses in the NIV).

They Could Not!

When Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, King Rezin of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel marched up to fight against Jerusalem, but they could not overpower it.

As I read this passage of scripture this morning, I was immediately encouraged by these words, “They could not overpower it.” Amen! We, the people of God today, Christ’s followers, have enemies, too, though our true struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the authorities of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the “heavenly realms” (See Eph. 6:10-20). This is not to say we don’t have physical flesh and blood enemies. We do. What this is saying, though, is that the true battle is a spiritual one, not a physical one, and it is fought in a spiritual realm, not a physical one, and that our true opposition is Satan and all his hordes. Yet he does, often times, use human instruments to do his dirty work, sometimes without them even being aware they are being used, I believe.

Yet, the encouraging aspect of this passage, as applied to believers in Christ Jesus today – the New Jerusalem – is that Satan cannot overpower us. Amen! We are children of the King of kings and the Lord of lords, and we serve the all-powerful, all-knowing and completely sovereign and only true God of the universe. Therefore, nothing can touch us but what God allows it, and he allows it for a purpose, for he is far above all rulers and powers, and God the Father has placed everything under his feet. All things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and through him all things hold together, i.e. he is completely supreme over all things (See Eph. 1:20-23; Col. 1:15-18). Even throughout what he permits, he will give us all the grace, strength, wisdom and discernment we need to endure, to stand strong in our faith, and to be victorious over Satan and his attacks against us, because we have Jesus Christ, our victor, living inside and out through us. Amen!

Shaking in our Boots

Now the house of David was told, “Aram has allied itself with Ephraim”; so the hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken, as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind.

Have you ever given way to fear based off a rumor? I am sure I have. Have you ever had Satan whisper lies into your mind and try to convince you things are true which are not true? Has he ever plagued you with doubts or with what ifs? Has he distracted your mind with all kinds of flittering thoughts, which then multiplied one on top of the other until you were convinced that what was in your thoughts was the reality of a situation, when it was far from the truth? Has he convinced you that people were against you who were not against you at all, or that someone meant something mean by what he or she said, when that was not in that person’s thoughts or heart at all? Basically, have you ever been fearful based off a rumor or a lie of Satan or a paranoid thought or concern over what might happen? Well, that was the situation here. They were afraid based off a rumor of what MIGHT take place. And, so they needed a reality check BIG TIME. Maybe we do, too.

Don’t Be Afraid!

Then the Lord said to Isaiah, “Go out, you and your son Shear-Jashub, to meet Ahaz at the end of the aqueduct of the Upper Pool, on the road to the Launderer’s Field. Say to him, ‘Be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid. Do not lose heart because of these two smoldering stubs of firewood—because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah. Aram, Ephraim and Remaliah’s son have plotted your ruin, saying, “Let us invade Judah; let us tear it apart and divide it among ourselves, and make the son of Tabeel king over it.” Yet this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“‘It will not take place,
    it will not happen…

This was the reality check for them – “It will not happen.” Not only that, but that the enemies they feared did not have what it took to see it through. Evidently their enemies’ talk was BIG, loud and fierce, but they didn’t have the strength or power to back up their threats. That isn’t always the case. Sometimes what we fear is very real, and it truly is going to happen, so our reality check, then, is more so to trust God, to believe in his words to us, to believe in his sovereignty, love, mercy and grace to us, and to have faith that he will supply us with all we need to make it through whatever difficulties lie ahead.

So, the lie can be a threat or a rumor of something that will never happen, and for the purpose of making us afraid, or it can be to instill doubt and fear inside us concerning real situations, getting us to believe that God is not all-powerful and completely sovereign, and that he will not be with us, and/or that he does not have what it takes to see us through very real and tangible and difficult situations. Either way, though, whether real or imagined, or a “what if,” we should still not be afraid, we should not lose heart, but we should put our faith in God believing that he will work all things out for our good, and that he has a purpose for and in it all, and that he will supply all we need to make it through. Amen!

Stand Firm!

If you do not stand firm in your faith,
    you will not stand at all.’”

The strong encouragement (exhortation and/or rebuke) for us here is that if we do not stand firm in our faith, we will not be able to stand at all against our enemies’ attacks, whether they are based in reality or they are based in fictitious situations. We have to daily put on the armor of God (See Eph. 6:10-20). This means that daily we must put our faith into practice in our everyday situations. When Satan attacks us with his lies, it is absolutely essential that we fight against those lies with the truth of God’s word. It is of necessity that we resist him and all his temptations and darts of doubt he throws our way, and it is vital that we draw near to God in full assurance of faith.

We must also throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, so we can run this race of the Christian life with perseverance, and it is crucial that we remove from our lives all obstacles to our faith, obedience, and surrender to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of our lives. And, it is absolutely necessary for us to be in daily fellowship with our Lord, willfully surrendering to him in not allowing our flesh to regain control over our lives, but that we walk daily in his Spirit and in love.

Immanuel – God with Us

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

The reason we are able to stand firm in our faith, and we are able to stand strong against Satan’s schemes against us is because Jesus Christ – Immanuel – God with us - took our sins upon him, crucified and buried them with him, and then rose victorious over death, hell, Satan and sin so that we, too, can be victorious! Amen! We can do so because he is absolutely sovereign over all things, and he has all situations, which we will or might encounter, completely in hand (under his control, rule and authority). Therefore, we can trust him, believing that he has our best interest in mind, and that he will work all things out for good for those who love God and who have been called according to his purpose.

We can also stand firm in our faith because we have the living God within us, living his life out through us for his glory. He will give us all we need to stand firm and to resist Satan. So, we can believe everything he has said, and we can trust him fully with every situation that comes into our lives, and then trust in his power, wisdom and strength to see us through – all for the glory of God, and for his purposes and will, and for our good. Amen! Help me, Lord, to believe that always, and to put that faith daily into practice. Thank you!

Have Thine Own Way, Lord / Adelaide A. Pollard, 1862-1934
George C. Stebbins, 1846-1945 / Tune: ADELAIDE, Meter: 54.54 D

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Thou art the potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Search me and try me, Master, today!
Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now,
As in Thy presence humbly I bow.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Wounded and weary, help me I pray!
Power, all power, surely is Thine!
Touch me and heal me, Savior divine!

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Hold o'er my being absolute sway.
Fill with Thy Spirit till all shall see

Christ only, always, living in me!

How Long, Lord?

Tuesday, February 11, 2014, 9:40 a.m. – When I got up this morning, the song “Wait!” was playing in my mind. Speak, Lord, your words to my heart. I read Isaiah 6 (NIV).

Unclean Lips

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
    the whole earth is full of his glory.”
At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

The Bible says that no one is righteous in his or her own flesh. We have all sinned, and we all come up short, of our own merit, of attaining God’s acceptance, approval and salvation. We have all gone astray and have gone our own way – the way of our own fleshly appetites and sinful human desires. Not one of us deserves God’s grace or to be able to stand in his holy presence. So, we should all be able to identify with Isaiah’s humble sentiments here when he realized his own sinfulness in comparison to God’s awesome divine holiness.

Yet, Praise God, our Father God provided a way for us to be made holy and righteous in his sight! He sent his Son Jesus Christ (God in human likeness – see Ro. 8:3) to earth to take on human flesh, to suffer as we suffer, and to be tempted in like manner as we are also tempted, yet without sin. He sent him to die for our sins; and to be our sacrificial Lamb offering for the sins of the entire world. And, he invites us to accept his free gift of grace - his great salvation from our sin - via faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of our lives.

This faith in Christ, and in what he did for us in dying for our sins, submits itself to the cross of Christ; to death to sin and to life lived in the Spirit of Christ; and to the working of the Spirit of God in turning us from the darkness of slavery to sin to the light of Christ, and to walking in his Spirit. And such faith – a gift of God’s grace - begins with much humility of spirit as is demonstrated to us here by Isaiah when he acknowledged his own sinfulness to God and his own inability, in his own human flesh, to have the right to be in the presence of Almighty God, because of God’s perfect holiness. Isaiah knew what it was to fear God.

Who Will Go?

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Before Jesus left this earth to return to heaven he told his disciples that they were to “GO” out into all the world for the express purpose of making disciples (followers of Christ) of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (our triune God), and teaching them to obey everything that Christ commanded them. He also told them that after he left he would send his Holy Spirit to indwell them, and to empower them, and that they would then be his witnesses to all the earth. I believe these words of our Lord are to be applied to all followers of Christ (his disciples), and that we have all been instructed to be his witnesses, and that we are to “GO,” and that we are to take his great and awesome message of salvation by God’s grace, through faith, out to the world around us.

Yet, should we even have to be told to “GO”? We should be so grateful for God’s awesome grace to us, and so thankful for his great salvation, and so appreciative of his deliverance from sin and of his righteousness, which he credited to our accounts, and which can now be lived in and out through us; and we should be so humbled by our own recognition of our own unworthiness, and of his awesome love and compassion and mercy toward us, that we should be moved to compassion to want to share that great salvation with everyone.

How many times in our lives do we experience something we feel is exciting, awesome, wonderful, fun, new, beneficial, or praise worthy, etc. and we can’t wait to tell others about it (now days to post it on social media sites or internet discussion groups)? And, yet we are reluctant oftentimes to share the greatest message of all, and the only true hope, victory, joy, peace and assurance of salvation that we can offer others for now and for eternity. Our excitement and joy over what Christ did for us should just naturally (in the Spirit) flow out from us to those we love and to the people of this world. The gospel of salvation is the greatest news there is to share!! And, it should be our greatest joy to share it, too!!

This People

He said, “Go and tell this people:

“‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding;
    be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’
Make the heart of this people calloused;
    make their ears dull
    and close their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
    hear with their ears,
    understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.”

Yet, although we “GO” with the message of salvation, not everyone will be saved. Jesus quoted this passage from Isaiah in his parable of the sower. I believe that parable gives us a picture of three types of response to the message of the gospel of salvation, even today, fitting to the quoted passage above. The first response is to not accept Christ at all. The second is to accept the message with joy, and perhaps even to believe they have been genuinely saved, but the “faith,” being superficial (surface only), never truly takes root, and the person quickly goes back to the lifestyle lived before the “decision” made, especially when faced with persecution for their “faith.” This person is not genuinely saved, either. The third response is unclear to me. I believe it can be taken either as another “surface only” decision to receive Christ, or it can be speaking of someone who did genuinely believe in Jesus Christ, but who allowed the distractions of this life and the hunger for the things of this world to eventually choke out the truth which was planted, and thus the word bears no result in the person’s lifestyle. This person is in great need of revival or of salvation.

What stands out to me here is that Isaiah spoke to God’s chosen people. He was not speaking to those who did not know or who had not heard. These were God’s covenant people. They knew God, and they had been taught about God and of his requirements for them for holy living. They were not lacking in knowledge, but in willing obedience. In New Testament times, though, as a whole they rejected Jesus Christ and his gospel message of salvation, though some believed. As well, the parable of the sower appears to describe those who refused to believe, those with only superficial belief, and those who had allowed their faith to stagnate due to the distractions of this world, as well as those living fruit-bearing godly lives. So, I believe this message of Isaiah is for those without faith, those with only superficial faith, and for those whose faith has stagnated. God is saying that these people have closed their minds, hearts, eyes and ears to the truth of the gospel, and that they need to turn from their sin and experience God’s saving or reviving (renewal) grace.

How Long?

Then I said, “For how long, Lord?”

And he answered:

“Until the cities lie ruined
    and without inhabitant,
until the houses are left deserted
    and the fields ruined and ravaged,
until the Lord has sent everyone far away
    and the land is utterly forsaken.
And though a tenth remains in the land,
    it will again be laid waste.
But as the terebinth and oak
    leave stumps when they are cut down,
    so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.”

Isaiah wanted to know how long the people would remain like that – hard-hearted and stubborn, refusing to follow Christ and his will for their lives. And, he inquired as to how long it would be before the people would turn from their sins and would choose to walk in faithful obedience to their God. God’s response to him is that the people would not have a change of heart about God until after God brought divine judgment upon them (see Rev. 2-3). Sadly enough, I believe that is the case with God’s people, the church, especially here in America today, though not all. I see in the institutional church many who have never believed, though they have heard, and many with only superficial faith, and others who have had genuine faith, but who have allowed it to stagnate (like the church in Laodicea). And, I believe God is calling out to these three groups of people to turn from their sins and to follow Jesus Christ with their lives, but many of them are not willing. And, so they will remain like that until God does bring his divine dose of discipline upon them.

The good news is that via God’s divine discipline, the church will be revived, the gospel of salvation will go forth, and many will be saved. I believe the prophecies of scripture teach this. And, this has always been God’s goal in disciplining his people – to bring them back to him (and to bring the unsaved world to faith in him). God doesn’t punish just to be mean. He does so out of mercy to move people to repentance when they won’t be moved in any other way, due to the hardening of their hearts. And, the servants of the Lord who must bring forth these messages also do not do so because they are mean and negative people. They do so because they love the people and they lament and grieve over the people’s spiritual condition, longing for the day when they will turn or return to their Lord.

Countenance Reveals

Monday, February 10, 2014, Midnight – the Lord Jesus woke me with the song “WAIT!” playing in my mind. Speak, Lord, your words to my heart. I read Isaiah 3 (quoting vv. 8-10 in the NIV).

Jerusalem staggers,
    Judah is falling;
their words and deeds are against the Lord,
    defying his glorious presence.
The look on their faces testifies against them;
    they parade their sin like Sodom;
    they do not hide it.
Woe to them!
    They have brought disaster upon themselves.
Tell the righteous it will be well with them,
    for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds.

Words and Deeds

Their words and deeds are against the Lord…

The people of God today are those who have believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their lives via their submission to God’s work of grace and the Spirit’s transformation of their hearts away from sin and toward God (See Ac. 26:16-18; Eph. 4:17-24; Gal. 2:20). Yet, it is possible for the genuinely saved to defy (disobey; resist; rebel against and/or disregard) their Lord and his teachings at some point in time in their relationships with him.

Although positionally we become righteous in God’s eyes via Jesus’ shed blood on the cross for our sins, by God’s grace, through our faith, that does not mean that we daily walk in his righteousness, though we should, and it does not mean we become sinless in word and deed from that point on. The Christian life is a daily walk of faith – of submission to the cross, death to sin, and a walk in Christ’s righteousness in the Spirit of God. If we walk (in lifestyle) by the Spirit of God, we will thus not gratify the desires of the flesh (See Gal. 5:16; Eph. 5:1-3; Col. 3:1-10; 1 John 1:6-7; 2 John 1:6; 3 John 1:3; Rev. 3:4).

Yet, many genuinely saved individuals, and even numerous congregations of saints are not walking in Christ’s righteousness (in lifestyle), but have fallen back into some or all of their old ways of sin and sinful lifestyles, and they are thus grieving the Spirit of God (Eph. 4:30). They actively engage in setting up barriers against (resisting) the Spirit’s voice, and/or else they have extinguished the Spirit (1 Thess. 5:19), thus showing contempt for his grace (See Rom. 2:3-5). Or, they may even change the grace of God into a license to sin (See Jude 1:4) in order to justify or to excuse away their sinful behavior. They lie to and deceive themselves and others, proclaiming that there are no irregularities or obstructions in their relationships with God, and possibly with others, too, and perhaps they even put on an appearance of righteous living while they know they are giving way to sin.

Or, some may not even try to hide their sin but may be blatantly open with regard to their rebellion against God. Either way, they have no shame, but continue in what they know is wrong, willfully putting a barrier between them and their fellowship with God and perhaps even between their relationships with those closest to them. They choose to follow after the ways of the flesh rather than follow after the ways of the Spirit. They have brought disaster upon themselves, i.e. they are not able to enjoy the fruit of Christ’s righteousness in their daily lives, but they are asking for God to bring divine discipline upon them (See Rev. 2-3).

Testifies Against

The look on their faces testifies against them…

You have probably heard it said that a person’s eyes are like windows into the soul. There is a lot that can be said about the look in one’s eyes and/or the countenance on one’s face. Our eyes and/or our countenance can reveal our true character even when our lips are proclaiming something else. We must be careful not to judge people falsely, though, because we do not really know what is in another person’s heart. Yet, it is possible to get to know a person’s facial expressions, eye movements (or looks), countenance and body language over a period of time, especially if we live with people, such as if they are family members and/or we are married to someone over a long extent of time. Married people and family members can often communicate to each other without a word spoken, just by a look in the face or eyes, body language and/or eye contact (or lack thereof).

Thus, it is possible for someone to lie with their lips, yet their face, countenance, eyes and body language may speak just the opposite. They may be able to fool some or many people, but they can’t fool God, and they should not be able to fool (trick; deceive) those closest to them, if those closest to them are paying attention. They should be able to tell.

The Righteous

Tell the righteous it will be well with them…

The righteous here are those who are both positionally righteous through the blood of Christ, by God’s grace, through faith, and are those who are walking in the Spirit in Christ’s righteousness. They are bearing spiritual fruit for the kingdom of heaven via their walks of faith, their commitments to the Lord, and their sharing of the gospel of Jesus Christ with the world about them, by God’s grace. I believe the righteous are also grieved over the sins of their brothers and sisters in the Lord, and they are calling upon God in prayer for God to move in the hearts of those they love within the body of Christ in a work of revival in bringing them back to walks of faith, purity and holiness. Yet, that time has not yet come.

Sometimes in life we face situations that are difficult to handle or even to comprehend. We get hurt, sad, frustrated, impatient, and/or confused, etc., longing for the day when God will intervene on our behalf or on the behalf of those we love, and/or when our circumstances will begin to make sense, and/or when our complicated state of affairs will change for the better. It is hard to understand, at times, why it seems that God chooses to take so long to act. The prophets of old, and the psalmists, too, often lamented God’s seeming slowness to move in a way that seemed right to them.

Yet, we know that God’s timing is always perfect. He is never late. He is always right on time. We know, as well, that he is absolutely sovereign over all things, and that all things are under his control (rule; authority), so we can rest secure in knowing that he has a purpose, and that he will work all things out for good for those of us who love God and who are called according to his purpose (See Eph. 1:20-23; Col. 1:15-18; and Rom. 8:28).

The Bible also says that God is not slow in keeping his promise, as some consider slowness, but he is patient, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (See 2 Pet. 3:9). So, we believe in his promises, we rest in his love, and we wait for his perfect timing. We keep on loving, forgiving, and serving in His power and strength within us, and we never, ever give up! He will supply us with all we need to endure.
