John 13:34-35 ESV
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
There is a lot of confusion today over this subject of “love.” Some people confuse lust for love, or they think that if they have these warm mushy emotional feelings for someone that it is love, or they think that they can fall in love, but just as easily fall out of love. But all that is based in the flesh, not in God, and not in his love he has for us, and that we are to have for one another. Real love is not something you fall in and out of.
Now, we are to love one another as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us to die on a cross to put our sin to death with him in order that we might die with him to sin and live to him and to his righteousness. Also, God is love and love comes from God, and God is holy, righteous, morally pure, upright, honest, trustworthy and faithful. So, when we love others with his love we will have these character traits engaged in our love for them, and we will not sin against them deliberately, and especially not habitually.
And since God is love and God is truth, then speaking the truth to people in love is also love. Lying to people to try to make them feel good about themselves, especially if we know they are living in sin, is not love. Sinning deliberately against others to harm them and then lying about it is not love, either. In fact, it is hate. So speak the truth, but speak it in love, and don’t lie to people no matter what your motivation is for lying. Love others the way Jesus loved us. He died to see us set free from our slavery to sin.
So, anyway, the Lord Jesus led me to make another video talk on the subject of love, so I am sharing it here with you for your encouragement.
