Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

What is Light?

Thursday, November 08, 2012, 3:06 p.m.

We read in 1 John 1: “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim we have fellowship with him, and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But, if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”

So, what is light? Light is the absence of darkness. It is truth. It is revelation. Light is also God’s holiness and his righteousness. The opposite of light, thus, is sin, unrighteousness, wickedness and utter selfishness.

So, if we claim we are walking in the light of the truth of God’s holy word, and yet our lifestyles reveal that we are actually walking and living according to the norms of our societies or according to the cravings of our fleshly desires, then we are liars, and the truth is not in us.

Yet, if we live our daily lives according to the truth found in God’s holy word, the Bible, and we walk in his holiness and righteousness, then not only will we have fellowship with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ, but we will enjoy the sweet fellowship and harmony of the Spirit of God with other followers of Jesus Christ who are also living their lives in the light of his love and grace. And, the blood of Jesus Christ will purify us from all sin.

So, how do we do this? – Only by God’s grace! Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” The scriptures say we must die to our old lives of living to please ourselves and of gratifying our sinful human natures, we must be transformed in heart and mind by the power and working of the Holy Spirit of God at work within us, via Jesus’ shed blood on the cross for our sins, and we must put on our new lives in Christ, created to be like Christ in true righteousness and holiness.
