“Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” (Psalms 23:6 NASB’95)
When we have the Lord Jesus Christ as our shepherd, who is
leading us in the way of righteousness and holiness, and when we are following
our shepherd in obedience to his commands, and we are no longer living in
deliberate and habitual sin against the Lord, we can live in peace regardless
of our circumstances; regardless of all the evil which is going on in the world
and in the worldly church and within the governments of nations.
For our Lord will fill us with his peace, and he will
restore our souls, and he will guide us in the paths of righteousness for his
name’s sake. But we have to listen to him, and we have to do what he says we
should do. We have to obey him and his commands, and follow him in his ways,
and walk in his righteousness and holiness. And we need to be looking to him
for truth and for answers to our questions and not rely on other humans to
speak truth.
For we live in very evil times when lies and liars abound,
and when evil people are deceiving and manipulating naïve and vulnerable and
weak minds and hearts. So many people today are believing the lies of the enemy
and not the truth of God’s word, but in the name of Jesus, and in the name of
his gospel, and in the name of salvation from sin. But we are not to fear them
and their lies, but we are to cling to the truth of God’s Holy Word.
But the only way that all of that is going to happen is if
our lives are surrendered to Jesus Christ to do his will, and if we are
following him in obedience to his commands in holy living, and if we are no
longer walking in deliberate and habitual sin against our Lord. When we are in
tune with our Lord, listening to his heart, and following his leading, then
more and more truth will be revealed to us through his word, and by his Spirit
within us.
And despite all that is going on in the world all around us,
and whatever chaos yet awaits us, and regardless of what trials and
persecutions that we yet may have to encounter, we can say with confidence that
“surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, and
I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” His goodness and mercy will be
with us through it all when we choose to rest in him, and believe in his
goodness.

As the Deer
By Martin J. Nystrom
Based off Psalm 42:1
As the deer panteth
for the water
So my soul longeth
after You
You alone are my
heart's desire
And I long to
worship You
You alone are my
strength, my shield
To You alone may my
spirit yield
You alone are my
heart's desire
And I long to
worship You
