“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?
“And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
“Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” (Matthew 6:25-34 ESV)
Yesterday and today I have had messages about not being afraid and not being anxious, and about not worrying about what is going to happen or if we are going to lose everything we possess in this life. And right now, on the east coast in America, we are under a severe thunderstorm warning with potential high winds and possible power outages and property damage, although right now it seems to not be as bad as what they were predicting, but we shall see what the next several hours holds for us.
But the point is that no matter what comes our way, whether we have more or we have less or we have almost nothing in the way of earthly possessions, we are to keep on trusting the Lord. For he never promised us that life would be easy. In fact he promised us that, as his followers, that the way would be hard and that it would be filled with trials and tribulations to test our faith. And we are promised that we will face war and storms and famines and pestilences and hardships and persecutions.
So when these things do come, whether they happen today or tomorrow or the next day or a year from now, we are not to be anxious ahead of time or during or even after the storm or trial is over. We are always to trust the Lord in all things, knowing that he is fully sovereign and in control over all that he has created, and nothing can happen to us unless God allows it, and he allows it for a purpose, which is for our good, either to bring us back to repentance or to strengthen us in our present walks of faith.
So, we need to keep our focus on the Lord and on his purposes for our lives, and we must seek him and his will regardless of our circumstances, and regardless of what trials and tribulations he brings our way. For these trials, and even persecutions, are for our good. So we must seek the Lord to find out the good he wants to do in our lives through our difficulties, and through our trials. And we must realize that we don’t really need everything we think we need. We can all survive on very little, if truth be told.

Why Are You Afraid?
An Original Work / December 5, 2013
Based off Various Scriptures
Do not be afraid.
Your Lord is always by your side.
Serve the Lord in righteousness
Before Him all your days.
Those who hate the light
Will not come to the Lord.
They fear their deeds
Might be noticed.
So, they hate the light,
And they embrace the night.
Do not be afraid,
Although your enemy attacks.
Dare to share your testimony
Of God’s saving grace.
Do not fear their threats,
But honor Christ, your Lord.
Be prepared to give an answer
For the hope you have,
With gentleness; respect.
Why are you afraid?
For all that’s hidden will be shown.
What I tell you, speak in daylight.
Let the truth be known.
Do not be afraid
Of those who’ll take your life.
Fear the Lord with understanding.
Trust Him with your life,
And give not up to strife.
Do not be afraid.
Take courage, it is I, your Lord.
Bow before Me; now adore Me.
Oh, why do you doubt?
Listen to the Lord.
Get up and bear His name!
Run and tell the world He loves them.
Jesus came to save.
Give Him your all today.
