In This Crazy World

Written during the time of the Covid Crisis of 2020

In this crazy world of ours,

With emotions flying high,

With fear mongers at their worst

Blowing everything sky high,

Can we trust in what they say?

Do their words to us make sense?

Is it logical to say 

That a few is an event?

An agenda, do they have?

Is it clear to you right now

That the purpose of it all –

To the beast that we should bow?

So discerning we must be.

Not buy into everything.

The deceiver has his tricks,

For us to serve him as king.

God gave to us all our minds,

And we need to put to use

In discerning all the lies,

And in seeing the abuse.

They want us to be afraid.

So to capture us, they will,

If we all don’t use our brains,

And we swallow every pill.

So, turn off the television,

And the media, alike,

And spend time now with your Lord

Asking Him what’s up with life.

Pray He gives you much discernment,

And the knowledge of His will,

Not to buy now every story

That comes to us from The Hill.

For, the book of Revelation

Foretold this now long ago,

That a beast would rise and take us

Where we do not want to go.

So, we must, we must resist him,

Not buy into all his lies,

So he does not overtake us

And we get a huge surprise.

We must follow Jesus, Savior, 

Where’er He leads us to go,

And the Word of God He’s given,

We must truly, truly know.

For there is a great deceiver

Who is up to all his tricks,

And he wants to capture Christians

With his lies, so no one flicks.

So, take time to sit and listen

To the Lord and what He says

About all our circumstances

And then rest in Him, instead.

Let the Word of God fill up you

With His promises, for sure,

And the peace of God o’ertake you,

So don’t bite the “worry lure.”

Judging Others Unjustly

Colossians 3:12-15 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

 

“12Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with hearts of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14And over all these virtues put on love, which is the bond of perfect unity. 15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, for to this you were called as members of one body. And be thankful.”

 

Judging Justly

 

Are we to tolerate, accept, appease, and pacify sin in the lives of fellow Christians who are living in deliberate and habitual sin against God? No! We are not! Should we then speak out against all deliberate and habitual sins going on within the lives of those who profess faith in Jesus and within the gatherings of the church? Yes! We should! But we should do so in love, and never hypocritically. But it is not hypocritical to call people to repentance and to obedience to Christ unless we are also living in deliberate sin against God.

 

And that is the subject I believe the Lord would have me write on this afternoon, i.e. hypocritical judging. For not all judging is wrong. The Scriptures teach that we are not to judge other people hypocritically, unjustly, by human standards, by our own traditions, by comparing others to ourselves, or in hate, with the wrong motives, prejudicially, by appearances, and/or without first giving the person a hearing or a chance to defend themselves. But we can judge sin in sinful humans according to God’s Word.

Hypocritical Judging

 

So what does hypocritical judging look like? This has to do with anyone who calls themselves Christians who condemns another professing Christian who they have determined has sinned or is sinning against God and/or against other humans, but while they themselves are habitually sinning against God, sometimes where everyone can see what they are doing, too, or while they embrace others who are definitely habitually sinning against God in practice. So they are sinning, accepting others who are sinning, but while condemning others who they perceive have sinned, even if the others have repented.

 

So they are picking and choosing which habitual sinners, including themselves, to approve of and to accept and to associate with while they condemn others who have sinned, even if the others have repented of sin. Or they may condemn others with whom they disagree on a subject, even if their contention is not supported in the Scriptures and is, thus, a lie. And this is a lot like the Pharisees who brought the woman (not the man) caught in adultery before Jesus expecting Jesus to have her put to death. But Jesus knew their hearts, so he said, “He who is without sin cast the first stone.”

 

Compassion and Kindness

 

Jesus had compassion on the woman caught in adultery. He in no way approved of her sin, and he told her, “Go and sin no more.” So we, too, can have compassion on others who are caught in sin, who are living in addiction to sin, and we can still let them know that sin against God is wrong and if they continue in those sins, while professing faith in Jesus Christ, that the Bible teaches they will not have eternal life with God. This is not being hateful! This is not being mean! This is being loving and showing kindness knowing full well we may be attacked for calling people to repentance.

 

But if we attack other Christians for wrongs we think they may have committed (but wrongs they may not have committed) all the while we are worse sinners than they are, because we are living in deliberate and habitual sin against God (I am not, by the way), then we are being hypocritical as well as we are being unjust, unfair, unloving, and unkind. Jesus loved sinners, but he hated the sin. But he rebuked the hypocrites who were willfully sinning against God while they judged others for their sins. And he called all sinners to repentance and to obedience to God’s commands.

 

So, love and kindness is not tolerance and acceptance of sinful behaviors. Love speaks the truth in love, calling sinners to repentance. But love requires that we love our enemies and that we pray for them and that we do good to them and that we speak truth to them that they need to hear, too. And love is not showing preference to one person addicted to sin while we reject another person addicted to sin. And we are to forgive all who have sinned against us as God forgave us. It is hypocritical for us to accept our Lord’s forgiveness while we refuse to forgive those who sinned against us.

The Sons of Disobedience

“1Therefore, since you have been raised with Christ, strive for the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

 

“5Put to death, therefore, the components of your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry. 6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience. 7When you lived among them, you also used to walk in these ways. 8But now you must put aside all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

 

“9Do not lie to one another, since you have taken off the old self with its practices, 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”

 

Death to Sin

 

If truly we have died with Christ to sin, and if we have been raised with Him to walk in newness of life in Him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as servants of righteousness, then we should no longer be living as slaves to sin. We should no longer be living for the sinful pleasures of the flesh, but we should be living for God to do His will for our lives. Our minds and our hearts and our actions should be set on pleasing the Lord with our lives.

 

Sadly, that is not being taught widely now. We have so many “wolves in sheep’s clothing” serving as “pastors” of “church” congregations who are teaching the people lies; who are teaching them a false gospel of salvation which permits them to keep on in deliberate sin without conscience or remorse. For they are telling them if they “believed” in Jesus that all their sins are forgiven and now heaven is guaranteed them for eternity.

 

But God’s word does not teach that. God’s word teaches that we who profess faith in Jesus Christ are to be those who have put and who are putting sin to death in our lives. Sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, etc., are to be put out of our lives because these are against God and against His commands, and against His will and purpose for our lives. And if we continue in these we will face the wrath of God, not heaven for eternity.

 

Genuine Faith

 

If we are of genuine biblical faith in the Lord Jesus we should have repented of our sins. We should have died with Christ to sin, and we should now be walking in obedience to his commands in practice. This does not make us perfect. This is not saying that we will never sin again. But the Scriptures definitely teach that, as followers of Christ, sin should no longer be our practice (habit, addiction). For if sin and disobedience to God remain our practice, then we do not know God. We do not have eternal life with God.

 

For by faith in Jesus Christ, when we repent of our sins, we exchange our old lives of living in sin for our new lives in Christ Jesus to be lived for His glory. We should no longer be indulging in the sinful pleasures of the flesh. And as the body of Christ, His church, we should not be tolerating sin among the people professing to know Christ. But we should be calling out sin for what it is and telling people the truth of what the Scriptures teach about addictive sin. And we should be calling the people to genuine repentance.

 

Too many “churches” and “Christians” are tolerating and/or even approving of sin in the lives of those who profess faith in Jesus Christ. So if you are someone who is calling out sin, and who is calling people to repent and to change directions, don’t be surprised if you become “the enemy” of the people and not the one who is living in sin and who refuses to repent and to obey God in life practice. But stand firm on the word of God and keep calling people to repent, for their salvation depends on them obeying the Lord.

Philippians 3:17-21 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

 

“17Join one another in following my example, brothers, and carefully observe those who walk according to the pattern we set for you. 18For as I have often told you before, and now say again even with tears: Many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and their glory is in their shame. Their minds are set on earthly things.

 

“20But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21who, by the power that enables Him to subject all things to Himself, will transform our lowly bodies to be like His glorious body.”

 

Godly Living

 

This was the apostle Paul speaking. He was a man of God who lived a godly life who was walking by the Spirit in obedience to the Lord in daily living, and for whom sin was no longer his practice. He took the commands of God seriously, to heart, to obey them faithfully. He was so confident of his walk of faith in the Lord that he encouraged other Christians to follow his example.

 

So, if you hear people saying that Paul was engaged in sinful practices, based off Romans 7, please test what they say against Romans 6 & 8 and the rest of the Scriptures and the other things which Paul taught. He could not have been a man who habitually sinned against the Lord, then taught the things which he taught, and then encouraged others to follow him. For he taught that if sin is our practice, and not holiness, and not righteousness, that we do not have salvation from sin and eternal life with God.

 

Encouraging Christians

 

So, here he is encouraging the Christians to follow his godly example of what it means to be followers of Christ. And that includes carefully observing those who walk according to the pattern he and the other apostles set for them. And this was to be in contrast to the many who were living as enemies of the cross of Christ. And what does that look like? It means to be opposed to God and to His commands, but not in words only, but in life practice. For many confess Christ and yet deny him by their sinful practices.

 

So, what does that look like? How will we know who is living a holy life pleasing to the Lord and who is living a sinful life in disobedience to God? Honestly, that is not always that easy to identify. It depends on what outward appearances they present versus how they live in the privacy of their own homes, or in their own bedrooms, or offices, or in a corner of a room with an internet device in hand not visible to anyone else in the room. Some sins can be kept hidden while outward appearances seem righteous.

 

Spiritual Discernment

 

So, this is where spiritual discernment comes into play, not that we should ever judge anyone by outward appearances alone, especially if we are seeing this person only once and for the first time. But we should test the spirits to see which ones are of God. Observe attitudes, behaviors, speech, thinking, habits, etc. Is there any outward evidence that this person is of God who is living for the Lord, who is spreading His word to others? Or by all appearances is this a person whose mind is set on the things of the world?

 

Do they ever mention Jesus? Do they talk about their walk of faith in Christ to others? Are they living morally pure lives? Are they sharing the gospel with other people? Are they encouraging others to give their lives to Christ and to live holy lives pleasing to God? Do they share what the Lord is teaching them through His word each day and how they are applying that to their lives? And here I recall the passage of Scripture in Acts 4:13 BSB:

 

“When they saw the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they marveled and took note that these men had been with Jesus.”

 

There was something about these two men and how they were living and in what they were speaking, and in how they handled themselves which led others to notice that these men had been with Jesus. And that is how it should be for us, too. There should be signs and symptoms in the things which we say and do that give off the message that we have been with Jesus, not physically, but spiritually, in our times of fellowship with Him each day in His word and in how that is impacting how we live and what we say.

 

By Faith in Jesus Christ

 

By faith in Jesus Christ, we must deny self, die to sin (repent of sin) and obey God and His commands in life practice. This does not make us perfect, but sin must no longer have control over our lives to where we habitually obey the lusts of the flesh. We should be people of God who are living for the Lord, who are listening for His voice, and who are obeying His commands. We should be walking in the ways of the Lord and no longer in the ways of the sinful flesh with minds set on earthly things.

Watch Out for Those Workers of Evil

Philippians 3:2-4 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

 

“2Watch out for those dogs, those workers of evil, those mutilators of the flesh! 3For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh— 4though I myself could have such confidence.”

 

Who are The Dogs?

 

Who are the “dogs” being spoken of here? In context, I believe they are referring to the Judaizers who were trying to convince the Gentile Christians that they had to be circumcised in order to be saved, which is a lie. But this is not limited just to the Judaizers, is it? What is the broader picture here? They are spiritual predators who feed off of others. So, what does that look like? They are the spiritually unclean, unholy, idolatrous, unfaithful, and adulterous, who are evil workers of the flesh opposed to God’s commands.

 

They may give off the appearance of being Christians, and they may be charming and winsome people who appear good on the outside, but inside they are full of wickedness. Inside they are plotting evil against other humans. They are thieves and robbers and liars spoken of in John 10:1-13 who give an outward appearance of being “good guys” while inwardly they are ravenous wolves out to destroy the church. They can be winsome, but be deceptive, and they may lead God’s people into sin instead of out of it.

 

So, we need to be people of God who are people of discernment who are students of the Scriptures who are following the Lord in obedience to His commands so that we do not fall into the devil’s traps, i.e. the traps set by these “dogs,” i.e. these workers of evil who may appear good on the outside. And we need to be those who are testing the spirits to see whether or not they are of God or of human flesh, and we need to test them against the Scriptures, but within the appropriate biblical context and not out of context.

 

For many lies are being spread by liars and deceivers who are teaching the Scriptures out of context. They pick verses out of the Scriptures, remove them from their context, and then they make them say what they do not say if taught in the correct biblical context. And from those they teach false doctrines of salvation, convincing the sinners that they do not have to put sin to death in their lives but that God will still receive them. And they teach that we don’t have to obey God, for they call that “works salvation.”

 

So, be students of the Scriptures who study them in their context who test what you are hearing to make certain that it is of God and not of flesh.

 

Philippians 3:10-16 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

 

“10I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to Him in His death, 11and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.

 

“12Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus.

 

“15All of us who are mature should embrace this point of view. And if you think differently about some issue, God will reveal this to you as well. 16Nevertheless, we must live up to what we have already attained.”

 

Progressive Salvation

 

Our faith and our salvation is not a one-time thing which happens in our life, done deal, and now we are good to go to heaven regardless of how we live. The Scriptures teach our faith and salvation as progressive, as something that has a beginning but that is active and ongoing in our lives and which must continue to the very end if we are to have salvation from sin and eternal life with God. And NO, this is NOT “works salvation.” This is what Jesus Christ and His New Testament apostles taught as the gospel of Christ.

 

For Jesus Christ gave His life up for us on that cross to deliver us out of bondage (addiction) to sin so we will now serve the Lord with our lives. And, yes, it is possible that we might still sin sometimes, but sin should no longer be our practice, our habit, our addiction. For by faith in Jesus Christ we must deny self, die to sin daily, and walk in obedience to our Lord and to His commands in life practice. Lack of perfection is never to be used as an excuse for deliberate and habitual sin against God and against other people.

 

As followers of Christ we should be daily growing in our walks of faith in obedience to our Lord and to His commands. Sin and disobedience to God should no longer be our habit, what we keep going back to over and over again. And in order for us to truly forget what is behind us, it has to be literally behind us. We are not to forget and ignore sinful patterns of behavior (addiction) in our lives if they still exist. Those patterns of behavior need to be examined for what they are and they need to be dealt with.

 

For we cannot move forward if what we think is behind us is still with us, i.e. still our “go to.” So if you are someone who keeps repeating the same sins over and over, and this goes on for many years (20,30,40,50,60), you need to have a heart examination to determine the source. For the Scriptures teach us “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a person” (See Matthew 15:17-20; Luke 6:45). So put these things behind you.

 

And then you can press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of our lives, which was to deliver us out of slavery (addiction) to sin so that we will now serve and obey Him with our lives. And then we can press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus. And then we can live up to what we have already attained. Then we are no longer walking in circles, repeating the same sins over again, but now we are moving forward by the grace of God living up to what has been attained.

Open my heart. Let Your truth in.

Save me from my sin.

“Repent of sin. Be cleansed within.

Obey all of His commands today.”

Die to sin, and life with Him you’ll gain.

“1Therefore if you have any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, 2then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being united in spirit and purpose. 3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves. 4Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

 

United in Christ?

 

If we are in Christ, by biblical faith in Jesus, having died with Him to sin so we might now live to Him and to His righteousness in walks of obedience to His commands, by the Spirit, in the power of God, and so we are being encouraged of God/Christ in our walks of faith, and we are being comforted by His love and affection and compassion for us, and so we are enjoying fellowship with Him in the Spirit, then we who are followers of Christ are to be like-minded with other followers of Christ who have the mind of Christ.

 

We are NOT, however, to be like-minded with worldly “Christianity,” or with the worldly “church,” or with the worldly “gospel,” which is not the gospel of Christ. You may hear much about “unity” within the gatherings of these institutional “churches” which are partnered with the world and with the government in unholy unions, which God forbids, but we are not to be united with them. God says we are to come out from among them, and He will be our God, and we will be His people, and so we don’t share in their sins.

Human Philosophy?

 

For these modern-day organizations and businesses of human origin which are being called “churches” are mostly being led by human philosophy and marketing schemes and tricks on how to grow their numbers and on how to attract the ungodly of the world to their gatherings. Most of them have altered the gospel message to make it less offensive to the people of the world who they are trying to attract to their “churches.” And many of them are pushing “unity” but not in unity with God’s will and purpose for us.

 

So, we need to be guarded in heart and mind against falling into the wrong crowd and into joining in with what is clearly not of God and is not in agreement with the teachings of the Scriptures, as a whole. We need to be careful that we are not being united in heart and mind and love with those who are not united with Christ but who are teaching lies to the people. So we need to be serious students of the Scriptures who are listening to the Spirit’s voice so we become like-minded with those like-minded with Christ.

 

Selfish Ambition?

 

So many of these organizations which are partnered with the world and with the government in unholy unions, which are called “churches,” are being led by people whose ambitions are of human flesh and not of God. And so they focus on what is worldly, and on what will draw in large crowds of people from the world, and thus so many of them are not teaching the gospel of Christ, in truth and in righteousness, but they are teaching a man-made version of “the gospel” which is intended to not offend the ungodly.

 

We who are followers of Christ are not to follow that role model. We should be about the Lord’s business in getting the biblical message of the gospel to the people of the world. For this is not about gaining followers for ourselves or so people will like us and so they will not think badly of us. We must speak the truth of God’s word to the people even if they hate us and reject us and speak evil of us in return. We should care more about other people and their salvation and their walk with the Lord than we care about if we are liked or not, or if people hate us. And some people will hate and reject us.

For Jesus Christ taught that to come to Him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) Him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to His commands, in His power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls Him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

Walk in fellowship with Jesus, Savior and friend.

He’s invited you to be His servant again.

Obey all His commands and do all that He says.

Sit at His feet each day. Worship Him for always.

Call Him master and King. Obey Him in all things.

Turn from all of your sins. Live in vict’ry again.

He’ll restore you today if you call Him and pray;

Forsake all of your ways; take up your cross today;

Follow Him for always.

 

Follow Jesus your friend where He leads you today.

Abide always in Him. Let His words dwell within.

If you remain in Him, bearing fruit from within,

God will answer your prayers, because for you He cares.

Be His followers now. Remain in Jesus’ love.

You will know peace within; comes from heaven above.

Love your neighbors and friends, and your enemies, too.

God will call you His friend. He will ne’er forsake you.

He has appointed you.
