God is My Salvation

Isaiah 12:1-2 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

 

In that day you will say:

“O LORD, I will praise You.

Although You were angry with me,

Your anger has turned away,

and You have comforted me.

2Surely God is my salvation;

I will trust and not be afraid.

For the LORD GOD is my strength and my song,

and He also has become my salvation.”

 

When we humans are born into this world, we are born with sin natures, in the image of Adam, the first man God created, and the first man to sin against God. Ever since Adam sinned against God in disobedience to God’s command, all humanity has been born with sin natures, separate from God, unable within our own flesh to be acceptable to God. Not one of us, no matter how many good things we might do, will be acceptable and approved of God in our own flesh, of our own fleshly works. We are lost without Christ.

So, God in His love and mercy, sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to the earth to be born as a baby to a virgin woman, but conceived of the Spirit and not of man. So Jesus was not born with a sin nature as we are, and He never sinned all the time He lived on the earth. But Jesus Christ always existed with God, and He is God, the second person of our triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He was with God from the beginning and He is our creator God. And He became our savior in His death on a cross.

When Jesus died on that cross, and rose from the dead victorious over sin and the grave, it was to put our sins to death with Him and to rise in victory over sin so that, by God-persuaded and God-gifted faith in Him we will now deny self, die to sin daily, and walk (in conduct, in practice) in obedience to His commands. For our salvation is not just forgiveness of sins, but it is deliverance from addiction to sin, and it is empowerment of God to live holy and righteous lives in surrender to His will and purpose for our lives.

3With joy you will draw water from the springs of salvation, 4and on that day you will say:

“Give praise to the LORD;

proclaim His name!

Make His works known among the peoples;

declare that His name is exalted.

5Sing to the LORD, for He has done glorious things.

6Cry out and sing, O citizen of Zion,

or great among you is the Holy One of Israel.”

 

Our faith in Jesus Christ is not of our own flesh. The faith necessary for salvation from sin and eternal life with God comes from God, it is authored and perfected by Jesus Christ, it is persuaded of God, and it is gifted to us by God. And so God sets the conditions, not us. He determines the course we must follow, not us. We do not get to choose our own path. And God requires that we deny self, die to sin, and follow Him in obedience to His commands as a matter of life practice, all in the power of God, by His Spirit.

We now belong to Christ and we are now His possession, and He has rule and authority over our lives. He is the one to determine our steps and to chart our course and to lead us in the ways of righteousness and holiness. We don’t just “get saved” so that when we die one day we get to go to heaven and not to hell. For if we deny Christ and His authority over our lives, and we do not follow Him in obedience to His commands, but we keep on living in sin, we will not be saved and we will not have eternal life with God.

 

And this is not saying we must be absolutely perfect in every respect 100% of the time or we are gone, out, no longer saved. But in the same respect, if we decide that God’s grace now gives us freedom to keep living in sin and that obedience to His commands is not required, then we are out on our own. And this is not determined by words only. The evidence of this is in our habits, our behaviors, how we live day by day. If we are not surrendered to Christ, but if sin is still our practice, we do not have life in Jesus Christ.

2The people walking in darkness

have seen a great light;

on those living in the land of the shadow of death,

a light has dawned.

3You have enlarged the nation

and increased its joy.

The people rejoice before You

as they rejoice at harvest time,

as men rejoice in dividing the plunder.

 

I have read and studied and written from the teachings of the book of Isaiah many times, especially over the past 22 years, but longer than that. And one thing I have noticed is how much the book of Isaiah speaks of the coming of Jesus Christ, of His birth, His life on the earth, His death and resurrection, and of the Messianic age, even though He had not yet come, and often as though He had already appeared. Isaiah 53 especially covers these subjects.

 

And all of us humans are born into sin, with sin natures, in the image of Adam. And we are separate from God and unable in our own flesh to be acceptable to God. So God the Father sent His only begotten Son into the world to be born as a baby to a virgin woman. But he was conceived of the Holy Spirit, and not of man. So Jesus was not born with a sin nature as we are. And He grew to be a man, and then He began His years of ministry on the earth accompanied by 12 chosen disciples. He is/was The Great Light!

 

We read about Him in John 1 where He is, at first, referred to as “The Word.” But further on down in the passage of Scripture it is revealed to us that “The Word” is Jesus Christ (God-incarnate) who lived among the people. He was with God in the beginning, and He was/is God, the second person of our triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And all things were made by Him, i.e. He is our creator God. And He is The Light that shines in the darkness.

 

Although some people did acknowledge Him for who He was (and is), and they did receive Him as their Lord and Messiah, the vast majority did not. And it is still the same today. Even though many have seen the “Great Light” which shines in the darkness (in a world of sin), and some may give lip service to Him, only a minority have discontinued walking (in conduct) in the darkness (sin, wickedness) and are now walking in The Light of truth and righteousness (Jesus Christ) in the power of God at work within their lives.

 

Isaiah 9:6-7 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

 

6For unto us a child is born,

unto us a son is given,

and the government will be upon His shoulders.

And He will be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7Of the increase of His government and peace

there will be no end.

He will reign on the throne of David

and over his kingdom,

to establish and sustain it

with justice and righteousness

from that time and forevermore.

The zeal of the LORD of Hosts will accomplish this.

 

Again, this is talking about Jesus Christ, the Messiah, who came into the world, was born as a baby to a virgin woman, but conceived of the Holy Spirit. When he was about 30 years old he began His earthly ministry with his 12 selected disciples. For the next three years he healed the sick and afflicted, raised the dead, delivered people from demons, fed the hungry, comforted the sorrowful, and taught the necessity of repentance (death to sin) and obedience to God for salvation and for eternal life with God.

 

For a while He had a large following, mostly because of the miracles that He performed, and because He fed large groups of people miraculously on at least two occasions, that I am aware of. But most of the religious rulers and people of influence in the temple of God were jealous of His popularity and they hated Him, and so they did all kinds of things to try to trip Him up in hopes to discredit Him. And they especially did not like His messages and the words that he spoke to the Pharisees, Sadducees, and to the Scribes.

 

Eventually they plotted His death on a cross, which they had carried out by the Roman government. But in Jesus’ death on that cross He put our sins to death with Him, and in His resurrection he conquered death, sin, Satan, and hell so that, by faith in Him, we will now die to sin and live to God and obey God and His commands as a matter of life practice. And He is now Lord and Master of our lives, and He is Lord over His church, i.e. over all of us who have surrendered our lives to Him. He is our wonderful counselor, our God.

 

Now, what is important for us to know here is that Jesus is God, and for us to have salvation from sin and eternal life with God we must, by faith in Him, deny self, die to sin daily, and follow Him in obedience to His commands, in life practice, in the power of God. And He is to be head of the church, not the government, not the marketing schemes, and not the pastors, but Christ. He is the one who is to be in charge of the church and directing her in the way she should go. And we are to follow Him wherever He leads us.

Do Not Fear What They Fear

11For this is what the LORD has spoken to me with a strong hand, instructing me not to walk in the way of this people:

 

12“Do not call conspiracy

everything these people regard as conspiracy.

Do not fear what they fear;

do not live in dread.

13The LORD of Hosts is the One

you shall regard as holy.

Only He should be feared;

only He should be dreaded.

14And He will be a sanctuary—

but to both houses of Israel

a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense,

to the dwellers of Jerusalem

a trap and a snare.

A Conspiracy

 

What is a conspiracy? A conspiracy is a plot, a plan, a scheme, and/or an agreement among a number of people to do something evil, wicked, hateful, sinful, and/or what is potentially harmful to others, which is not in their best interest, which may or may not also be something illegal. And then we have something called “conspiracy theories,” which are being touted as claims of a conspiracy taking place, which they claim are not true, so they say we must not believe them, even if they are true, and if they are actually happening.

 

We who belong to the Lord must not latch ourselves on to everything we hear or read about in the news or from other people or on social media just because “so and so” said it, and thus it must be true. It doesn’t matter who said it, how well respected they are, or how knowledgeable they are. We should test everything we are hearing or reading or are being told is true against the Scriptures, and in prayer, seeking the counsel of God in these matters. Some of what we hear will be true. But some of it will be lies.

 

Scare Tactics

 

So much of what we hear and read in the news or on social media is just scare tactics or things to provoke people fighting with other people. So much of it is amplified way beyond what is really happening. And much of what is really happening is being ignored and is not even making the news. But the point here is that we should not believe everything we hear or read just because we think it comes from a reputable source. And we should not allow ourselves to get all worked up over things which may not even exist.

 

We should take everything to the Lord in prayer, seeking His counsel and wisdom so that we do not buy into any lies, whether the lies are that an actual conspiracy is happening, or that it is not happening, and thus must be ignored. But whether or not what we hear is truth or not, or is happening or is not happening, we are not to be afraid. We are not to fear what others fear or what others intend for us to fear, which is their goal in spreading the lies. But we should inquire of the Lord as to how we should respond.

 

Only God Should Be Feared

 

Now, we do need to exercise wisdom and good judgment here. If someone warns us that danger is ahead and we might want to take a different route, we should not just automatically brush them off. But at the same time we should not just automatically believe them and then fall into a trap, either. We have this all the time on our computers with all kinds of warnings coming up that if we don’t do such and such that it will go bad for us. But in reality if we believe them, that is the real trap. So be cautious, but pray over it all.

 

And this goes to the medical profession, as well. Drugs are being pushed on the people here in the USA as the solution for most everything including fear, anxiety, stress, difficulties, challenges, body aches and pains, and the list goes on. I used to buy into that, but then the Lord led me to trust him with my body and to stop taking pharmaceuticals for every ailment or pain. And, praise the Lord, I have been pharmaceutical dependent free for 18 years. We can live without drugs, and some drugs make matters much worse. I know.

 

Take Note: I am in no way telling any of you that you should stop taking drugs. I am not a doctor. But I am suggesting that you take everything to the Lord in prayer, seeking His counsel, and that you follow His leading.

 

So Much Fearmongering

 

And so much of what is in the news media is just fearmongering. They want us afraid. They want us emotionally upset and fearing everything and each other. And so much of this coming from our government, claiming that the “bad guys” are “the other guys” and not us (the USA), is just garbage. They want us believing that the US government are the good guys and that these other countries are the bad guys when, in reality, it is flip-flopped from that. And you don’t have to believe me. Pray about it. Seek God’s counsel in this.

But no matter what we are being told, whether they are lies or they are the truth, we should not let fear control us. Should we fear God? Absolutely! Should we believe His warnings to us in the Scriptures? YES! We should not be stupid and ignore everything that is going on all around us. But we should pray for wisdom and direction to make right and just and sensible decisions about our health, and how that should be treated, and concerning the world and what is happening. And we should follow the guidance of God, not man.

Humbling Ourselves

 

Isaiah 6:1-5 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

 

1In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted; and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2Above Him stood seraphim, each having six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3And they were calling out to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts;

all the earth is full of His glory.”

 

4At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook, and the temple was filled with smoke.

5Then I said:

“Woe is me,

for I am ruined,

because I am a man of unclean lips

dwelling among a people of unclean lips;

for my eyes have seen the King,

the LORD of Hosts.”

 

If we all could literally and physically see God in all His glory, in all His holiness and righteousness, it should bring all of us to our knees in humble acknowledgment of our unworthiness to be called “children of God.” For not one of us is saved from our sins and on our way to heaven based off our own worthiness. For all of us are born into this world with sin natures, in the image of Adam, and not one of us is acceptable to God in our own flesh. In our flesh we all come up short of the divine approval and acceptance of God.

 

Our Sin Atoned For

 

Isaiah 6:6-7 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

 

6Then one of the seraphim flew to me, and in his hand was a glowing coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7And with it he touched my mouth and said:

“Now that this has touched your lips,

your iniquity is removed

and your sin is atoned for.”

 

So God, in His love, mercy, and compassion, sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to the earth to be born as a baby to a virgin woman, but conceived of the Holy Spirit, and not of man. So Jesus was not born with a sin nature as we are, and He never sinned in all 33 years of His life that He lived on the earth, although He was tempted to sin as we are. And while He was on the earth He healed the sick and afflicted, raised the dead, delivered people from demons, and He taught repentance for forgiveness of sins.

 

So, by God-persuaded and God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin, and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in Him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as servants of righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. By faith in Him, and in the power of God, we deny self, die to sin daily, and we follow Him in obedience to His commands, as a matter of life practice, in the power of God. Sin and disobedience are no longer to be what we practice.

Whom Shall I Send?

8Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying:

“Whom shall I send?

Who will go for Us?”

And I said:

“Here am I. Send me!”

9And He replied:

“Go and tell this people,

‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding;

be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’

10Make the hearts of this people calloused;

deafen their ears and close their eyes.

Otherwise they might see with their eyes,

hear with their ears,

understand with their hearts,

and turn and be healed.”

 

Once we have believed in Jesus, by His grace, and so we have denied self, died with Christ to sin, and now we are walking in obedience to His commands in holy living, empowered by God, and not by the flesh, the Lord will direct us to what areas of ministry He has for us to do within the biblical body of Christ, His church. And I am not speaking of institutional market-driven “churches” which are of this world, but of us who are of genuine faith in the Lord Jesus. We are His church. We are the called of God to His service.

 

All of us will be given spiritual gifts of the Spirit which we are to use in the power of God in ministering to one another within the body of Christ and in taking the message of the gospel of our salvation to the people of the world. And all of us will be assigned our “body parts,” which are spiritual and not physical in nature, by God, for the encouragement and strengthening of the body of Christ, His church, to spiritual maturity and to walks of faithfulness to our Lord in holy living, no longer living under the control of sin.

 

And we are not all going to be given all the same gifts and ministries and body parts. For God made us all different for a reason. But all of us are called of God to take the message of the gospel of Christ to the people of the world for their salvation from sin and eternal life with God. But we must make certain that what we are spreading as the truth is the truth that Jesus and his New Testament apostles taught. For they taught the necessity of self-denial, dying to sin, and obeying our Lord’s commands in practice.

 

How Long, O Lord?

 

Isaiah 6:11-13 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

 

11Then I asked:

“How long, O Lord?”

And He replied:

“Until the cities lie ruined

and without inhabitant,

until the houses are left unoccupied

and the land is desolate and ravaged,

12until the LORD has driven men far away

and the land is utterly forsaken.

it will be burned again.

As the terebinth and oak leave stumps when felled,

so the holy seed will be a stump in the land.”

 

For how long, then, should we be taking the message of the gospel to the people of the world? How long should we be utilizing our spiritual gifts and ministries within the power of God in encouraging the body of Christ, the church, to live holy lives, pleasing to God, and no longer as slaves to sin? For as long as we live, and for as long as there is still life on this planet. Our callings of God are not something we retire from when we reach a certain age. Age and health may limit us, but we keep obeying God to the end.

Mocking God and His Word

18Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of deceit

and pull sin along with cart ropes,

19to those who say, “Let Him hurry and hasten His work

so that we may see it!

Let the plan of the Holy One of Israel come

so that we may know it!”

20Woe to those who call evil good

and good evil,

who turn darkness to light

and light to darkness,

who replace bitter with sweet

and sweet with bitter.

21Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes

and clever in their own sight.

 

With Cords of Deceit

 

What we have here is a description of people who are addicted to sin, who sin against God and other humans willfully, deliberately, and habitually. They are those who pile sin upon sin right in the face of God, knowing full well that what they are doing is wrong, that it is hurtful to others, but choosing to do it anyway out of sinful and selfish and lustful desires. And, in order to justify their sin, they may contrive all sorts of justifications (excuses) for their sins, perhaps minimizing them, or presuming God will not judge them.

 

Mocking God

 

In this case, they are those who mock God and his commands, testing to see if God will actually do what He said He would do. They continue in deliberate and habitual sin for the purpose of defying God, for the purpose of provoking Him to anger. For they are the defiant and unruly who do not believe God will judge them, that He will punish them for their sins. Since it had not yet happened that God would bring judgment on them, they defied Him to do so in an insolent manner. And there are people today who absolutely do this.

 

Good and Evil Swapped

 

Many of those there are today who call evil good, and good evil. They claim that because God is loving, kind, and merciful, that he will not judge those who profess faith in Jesus, even if they continue living in sin and not in obedience to the Lord. And they falsely accuse those who teach the truth of the gospel of those who are teaching lies, which they call “works salvation.” But what they call “works salvation” is what Jesus taught, that if we come after Him, we must deny self, die to sin daily, and obey God in practice.

 

So, those who pacify others in their deliberate and habitual sin, they regard as being loving and kind. But those who teach that by faith in Jesus Christ we must take up our cross daily (die daily to sin and to self) and follow our Lord in obedience to His commands, in practice, or we do not have salvation from sin and eternal life with God, they call mean, hateful, unloving, and unkind. But lying to people to make them feel good, or so they will like us, is not kind. It is selfish. Telling them the truth is what is truly kind and loving.

 

Wise in Their Own Eyes

 

There are people who take a “My Do It” approach to Christianity, who interpret the Scriptures to their own advantage and who take matters in their own hands rather than surrendering their lives to the will and purpose of God for their lives. Many of them have adopted a watered down diluted “gospel” message which makes no requirements of them to repent of (turn from) their sins and to obey God with their lives. Or they create in their own minds the “god” they want to serve who does not judge them in their sins.

 

Or they may believe that God does intend that we forsake our sins to follow him in obedience, but they make it optional, recommended only, but not enforced. Or they make excuses upon excuses for why they are not yet free of their slavery to sin, sometimes blaming it on other humans who they feel did not do their job properly, rather than taking full responsibility for their own behaviors. And, although they know the right way, and what the Scriptures teach, they will find ways of justifying their own sinful habits.

 

The Gospel Message

 

But by God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in Him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

They Acted Against The Lord

Isaiah 3:8-9 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

 

8For Jerusalem has stumbled

and Judah has fallen

because they spoke and acted against the LORD,

defying His glorious presence.

9The expression on their faces testifies against them,

and like Sodom they flaunt their sin;

they do not conceal it.

Woe to them,

for they have brought disaster upon themselves.

 

When This Was Written

 

At the time in which this was written, God’s people were the Jews only. They only were biblical Israel at that time. And the physical city of Jerusalem was the Holy City of God. But 2000+ years ago God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into the world. Jesus was born as a baby to a virgin woman, but he was conceived of the Holy Spirit, and not of man, so He was not born with a sin nature as we are. And while He lived on the earth He never sinned but He only did what was good for the salvation of people from their sins.

 

Around the age of 33, I believe it was, the Jews who hated Jesus plotted his death on a cross which they had carried out by the Roman government. But in Jesus’ death He put our sins to death with Him and He was raised from the dead so that, by God-persuaded faith in Him, we might deny self, die to sin, and obey Him and His commandments. For Jesus was God in the flesh (God incarnate) when he lived on the earth. And when He died He tore down the barrier between Jew and Gentile and made us ONE by faith in Christ.

 

Biblical Israel Today

 

So, God’s people today are not Jews only, and they are not Jews who reject Jesus Christ as their Lord and Messiah (the Christ). God’s people today are all who have put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ to deliver them from their addiction to sin so that, by faith in Him, they might now live for Him in walks of surrender to God, in obedience to His commands, in holy living, by the grace of God and in the power of God at work within those of us who have denied self, died to sin, and who are now walking (in conduct) in obedience to our Lord. And the Holy City is now the people of God.

 

“For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel, and not all are children of Abraham because they are his offspring.” “It is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring.” And “the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, ‘And to seeds,’ as one would in referring to many, but rather as in referring to one, ‘And to your seed,’ that is, Christ.” “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” So biblical Israel today is all who are of faith in Jesus as the Christ.

Making Application to Today

 

So fast forward from the time this was written to the world and to the church (God’s people) today (Biblical Israel, the Israel of God). Many people professing faith in Jesus Christ have bought into a lie which teaches that they do not have to deny self, die to sin, and obey God. And so they continue in deliberate and habitual sin in disobedience to our Lord and to His commands. And then there are those who did, by faith in Jesus, die with Him to sin, and who did walk in obedience to His ways, for a time, but have since wandered from the faith and have returned to living in sin, disobeying God.

 

And it says here, “The expression on their faces testifies against them, and like Sodom they flaunt their sin; they do not conceal it. Woe to them, for they have brought disaster upon themselves” (v. 9). And some people may be good at hiding it while others are not. For some, when they are sinning against God, deliberately and habitually, it does show up in the expression on their faces and in their attitudes and behaviors. They may attempt to hide it, but their body language gives it away. Yet some others do flaunt their sin, for they believe that God does not judge them for their sin.

10Tell the righteous it will be well with them,

for they will enjoy the fruit of their labor.

11Woe to the wicked; disaster is upon them!

For they will be repaid with what their hands have done.

 

The Bottom Line

 

But here’s the bottom line. Jesus and His New Testament apostles taught that faith in Jesus Christ, if it is genuine biblical faith, will result in us denying self, dying to sin, and following Jesus in obedience to His commands, as a matter of life practice, although not necessarily in absolute perfection. But lack of perfection is not an excuse for deliberate and habitual sin. For if someone who professes faith in Jesus Christ continues in habitual sin, and does not obey the Lord and His commands in life practice, they will NOT have Salvation from Sin and Eternal Life with God. Believe this!

That We May Walk in His Paths

Isaiah 2:1-2 NASB

 

The word which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

 

Now it will come about that

In the last days

The mountain of the house of the Lord

Will be established as the chief of the mountains,

And will be raised above the hills;

And all the nations will stream to it.

 

The Last Days

 

The last days are in specific reference to the Messianic age and the time period beginning with the first coming of Jesus Christ, including His birth, death, resurrection, and ascension back to heaven, to be consummated at His return. And the mountain of the house of the Lord is a specific reference to Zion, and Zion is now a term used in reference to describe both Jesus Christ and His church. And the house of the Lord (the temple of God) is now Jesus Christ and His church (John 2:19-21; 2 Corinthians 6:16).

 

Now the old temple of God under the Old Covenant was a physical temple in Jerusalem where the people of God came to worship the Lord and to hear the word of the Lord taught, and where physical sacrifices were made for the sins of the people. The temple housed the Ark of the Covenant in the Holy of Holies, which is where the presence of God was experienced. Yet, we who believe in Christ to be Lord of our lives today are of the heavenly Jerusalem, and we are now the children of promise (See: Galatians 4:21-31).

 

And Jesus Christ will be and has been established as superior to all other gods, and things that are worshiped, and also places of worship (Reference: mountains as high places of worship). He will be and has been exalted above the heavens (Hebrews 7:26). And “God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name…” (Philippians 2:9). And all nations will stream (run) to Him – to His gospel of salvation – people from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues (Revelation 7:9-17).

 

So this “mountain” of the house of the Lord is really and mainly Jesus Christ, but as His body we are also part of that mountain, plus we and the Lord are the house of the Lord, His temple. But specific references here are made only to Him, which will become clear if they are not already. For this is about lifting up Jesus Christ and giving Him the place of highest honor, and He is to be raised above all other gods which are worshipped, and people from all over the world will flock to Jesus Christ and to His true church.

 

Isaiah 2:3,5 NASB

 

“And many peoples will come and say,

‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,

To the house of the God of Jacob;

That He may teach us concerning His ways

And that we may walk in His paths.”

For the law will go forth from Zion

And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.’”

“Come, house of Jacob, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.”

 

The Mountain of The Lord

 

Now this is where it becomes even more clear that this is talking about an individual person and not about a literal physical mountain. For they reference the mountain of the Lord and the house of the God of Jacob as a “He,” and as someone who will teach us His ways. And in the Messianic age it is Jesus Christ who is teaching us His ways via the Holy Spirit who dwells in the lives of Christ’s followers. And it is the ways of the Lord which we must now walk in, and not the ways of the flesh and of human beings.

 

And in these last days there are people who are turning their hearts to Jesus Christ, in truth. But in our day and time, and in America where I live, I would not say that “many” are wanting to be taught the ways of the Lord so that they can, in truth, walk (in conduct, in practice) in His paths. Perhaps in other nations, where Christians are being persecuted, many are streaming to the Lord Jesus, desirous to know His ways so that they can walk in them, but I would say right now that those numbers are few where I live.

 

But, time is not up, and Jesus has not yet returned, and from what I read in the book of Revelation, people will still be coming to faith in Jesus Christ even in the time of tribulation, and the bride of Christ will be making herself ready for the Lord’s return. And the true church, the body of Christ, will be experiencing great persecution and tribulation, which perhaps is needed for the church to be revived and for many others to come to faith in Jesus before He returns and He takes His bride to be with Him for eternity.

The Law

 

The “Law” being spoken of here in the Messianic age is the gospel of our salvation, not the Old Covenant liturgical, ceremonial, sacrificial, purification, circumcision, dietary and Sabbath laws. Out of Jesus Christ has come forth and is going forth the gospel of our salvation. And from the witness of the church in the world is going forth the gospel and the word of the Lord. And many are being taught the ways of the Lord so that they can walk in them. But in America, the many are being taught a diluted and an altered gospel.

 

But I have confidence that those who are sharing the truth of the gospel, that what they are sharing is going out to the people of the world, and that people are believing in Jesus Christ, in truth, and they are forsaking their lives of living in sin in order to follow our Lord in obedience to His ways. And I believe that, even though it appears that “the many” in America are rejecting the truth of the gospel now, in favor of the lies, that some or many of them will one day turn from their sins and will follow Jesus in obedience.
