Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

Those Who Suppress The Truth

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.” (Romans 1:18-23 NASB1995)

It is not okay with God for us who profess the name of Jesus to keep on sinning, to keep making sin our practice. God’s grace is not free license to keep on sinning deliberately and habitually without conscience, and without biblical remorse, and without genuine repentance. God’s grace, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we wait for our Lord Jesus’ return (see Titus 2:11-14; Matthew 7:21-23).

Jesus Christ, in his death and resurrection, put our sins to death with him, and he rose from the dead victorious over sin, hell, death, and Satan so that, by God-persuaded and God-gifted faith in him we will now deny self, die to sin daily, and walk (in conduct) in obedience to his commands in holy living – all in the power of God at work now within us in changing and purifying us and making us holy vessels fit for his service to be used for his glory and praise. All glory to God! (see Romans 6:1-23; Luke 9:23-26).

Lip service only to God will get us nowhere good. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of human beings who suppress the truth which can be known about God and his righteousness, via their deliberate and habitual acts of unrighteousness. For if we choose our sins over God, we are dishonoring our Lord and what Jesus did for us on that cross in putting our sins to death with him so that, by faith in him, we can now die to sin and obey our Lord in holy living, by his power.

So many who profess faith in Jesus Christ are far from God in how they live and in what they practice. So many have gone the way of the world and are living worldly and immoral lives for self-pleasure, and they are not living holy lives for the glory of God. So many are followers of other human beings rather than being followers of Christ. And then those other humans end up being their gods rather than God being their God. And so they end up believing and living the lies rather than believing and living the truth.

Now God will pursue us to bring us to himself. And if we fall, he will pursue us to bring us back to himself in holy living. But he will not force himself on anyone who does not want him in their lives. He will hand us over to our own devices if we choose our sins over obedience to his commands (see vs. 24-32). But sadly so many who profess to know Christ, who know the will of God, that those who make sin their practice will die in their sins, still they continue in deliberate sin and they approve of others who practice sin, too.

But Jesus Christ taught that to come to him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

Love must be genuine.

Hate what’s evil; cling to good.

Love each other with affection.

Show respect for ev’ryone.

Never lack in your zeal.

Serve the Lord with diligence.

Rejoice in steadfast hope.

In affliction, patient be.

Keep on praying; share with others.

Practice hospitality.

Bless those who persecute.

Feel with others sympathy.

Be not filled with conceit.

Daily sit at Jesus’ feet.

Live in harmony with others.

Live at peace with ev’ryone.

Repay not to someone

With the evil he begot.

Do not take your revenge;

Leave it to the wrath of God.

If your enemy is thirsty,

Give to him something to drink.

Do what’s right for mankind.

Evil: overcome with good.
