Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

Treat All People with Fairness

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:4-7 ESV).

Now I am not going to be covering this whole passage, but just verse 5, but I did want to share the context. Verse 5 says:

“Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand.”

Now some translations use the term “gentleness” in place of “reasonableness,” but they mean the same thing in this context. They mean fairness, justice, common sense, realistic, sensible, and evenhanded. But so many people today who profess faith in Jesus Christ are not being fair, and they are not exercising common sense, and they are not being evenhanded with other people. For they are taking sides with people who, as a people group, deny Jesus Christ and, thus, deny God the Father, and they are siding with them against their physical enemies.

And they are using Old Covenant and Old Testament teachings to justify a physical nation which is antichrist because as a nation they do not believe in Jesus Christ. So that makes them anti-God. Jesus said to the Jews that because they didn’t believe in him that they don’t believe in God the Father, either, and that God is not their Father, and that Abraham is not their father, but that their father is the devil and they do what he desires. So then why should we, as Christians, support these people against their enemies?

And where in the NT Scriptures does it teach us that we should give our absolute loyalty and devotion and undying trust to a physical nation of any people, really, but to a nation who rejects Jesus Christ as their Messiah? Does that even make sense? No, it doesn’t! We are taught all throughout the New Testament that there are liars and deceivers and false christs and false prophets and teachers and that we need to be testing the spirits to see who are of God. And those who don’t believe in Jesus are not of God!

And where does it teach us in the New Testament that we can support a physical nation of people who are anti-God against their physical enemies, some of whom are Christians? It doesn’t! That is like us standing in support of Paul when he was persecuting and calling for the deaths of Christians, when he was still Saul, before he believed in Jesus. Do you not see how unfair and unjust and ungodly that is to support the ungodly in their murdering of innocents, some of whom are followers of Christ?

And what does the New Testament teach us about our enemies? We are to love them and pray for them and do good to them and bless and not curse them. And vengeance is God’s, and he will repay. And who is he going to repay? All who are against his true chosen people and who are persecuting and murdering them, and I am speaking of Christians. We are God’s chosen people. We are the only heirs of the promise God made with Abraham and his seed Jesus Christ, because we are those who believe in Jesus Christ.

And this is not “replacement theology.” That is a made up thing by humans. This is teaching the truth of what the Scriptures teach, and this is listening to the Holy Spirit in what the Scriptures teach, and it is adhering to the truth of the Scriptures, and it is not following other humans and what they think and what they are doing, especially if what they are doing is pure evil, and is not of God, for they are not of God. The Bible says so! So, please don’t follow man, follow God. Don’t follow theologians, either. Follow the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit and let them teach you truth.

And love all people, and treat all people with fairness, and don’t take sides with the enemies of the cross of Christ who are persecuting the true children of God who are followers of Christ. Please realize the day and time we are living in and how the Scriptures warn us over again to not be deceived and to test every spirit. But even if you take the “Israel” Scriptures out of the mix, what do the NT Scriptures teach us regarding how we are to treat our enemies, and about who we are not to partner with?

We are under the New Covenant, not the Old Covenant, so we need to live by the New Covenant. And we need to be fair and just in our treatment of all people and we need to put our trust in God and not in other humans, and especially not in those the Bible calls “antichrist.” For if you support that antichrist nation out of some theology you are holding on to, you are not acting in accord with the teachings of Christ and of his NT apostles. And you are not loving those you deem your enemies. And you are not leaving vengeance to God. But you are unequally yoked with unbelievers.

So, please take these Scriptures and the whole of the New Testament teachings to the Lord in prayer, and please let the Holy Spirit lead you to all truth, and please do not support a nation that is not of God, but that is anti-God, and then against her physical enemies, some or many of whom could be Christians and children and innocents in a war they did not cause. And please test all the spirits and do not believe everyone, and don’t give your undying support and trust and loyalty and devotion to anyone but Almighty God. For God is going to judge all of us according to our works.

Oh, to Be Like Thee, Blessed Redeemer

Lyrics by Thomas O. Chisholm, 1897

Music by W. J. Kirkpatrick, 1897

Oh, to be like Thee! blessèd Redeemer,

This is my constant longing and prayer;

Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures,

Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear.

Oh, to be like Thee! full of compassion,

Loving, forgiving, tender and kind,

Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting,

Seeking the wandering sinner to find.

O to be like Thee! lowly in spirit,

Holy and harmless, patient and brave;

Meekly enduring cruel reproaches,

Willing to suffer others to save.

O to be like Thee! while I am pleading,

Pour out Thy Spirit, fill with Thy love;

Make me a temple meet for Thy dwelling,

Fit me for life and Heaven above.

Oh, to be like Thee! Oh, to be like Thee,

Blessèd Redeemer, pure as Thou art;

Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness;

Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.
