Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

That He May Teach us His Ways

Isaiah 2:2-5 ESV

“It shall come to pass in the latter days

    that the mountain of the house of the Lord

shall be established as the highest of the mountains,

    and shall be lifted up above the hills;

and all the nations shall flow to it,

    and many peoples shall come, and say:

‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,

    to the house of the God of Jacob,

that he may teach us his ways

    and that we may walk in his paths.’

It shall comes to pass that in the days of the Messiah, the Christ, Jesus our Lord, who is Zion, who is the foundation and the cornerstone for his church – his church who is the bride of Christ, who are the people who trust in him as Lord and Savior, who are the house of the Lord in whom he dwells by his Spirit – he, Jesus, the mountain of the house of the Lord, he shall be established as the highest place of worship, for we will no longer worship at a specific place or day or time, but we will worship him in spirit and in truth.

And all the nations shall flow to HIM, and many peoples shall come, and say: “Come, let us go to Zion, to Jesus Christ, the Messiah, to the temple of God, his body, that He, Jesus Christ, may teach us His ways, that we may walk in His paths.” For Jesus is the promised seed of Abraham through whom all nations are being blessed. So, this is talking about people from many nations coming to faith in Jesus Christ who are desiring to learn from him and to walk in his ways, which is the desire of those of true faith in him.

“For out of Zion shall go forth the law,

    and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

He shall judge between the nations,

    and shall decide disputes for many peoples;

and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,

    and their spears into pruning hooks;

nation shall not lift up sword against nation,

    neither shall they learn war anymore.”

For out of Zion, who is Jesus Christ, shall go forth the perfect law, the gospel of our salvation, the law of liberty from sin. And Jesus, the Word, preached that if anyone would come after him he must deny self and take up his cross daily (die daily to sin and to self) and follow (obey) him. For he said if we save our lives (hold on to our old lives of living in sin and for self) that we will lose them for eternity. But if we lose our lives for his sake (die with him to sin and to self) then we will have eternal life in him (Lu 9:23-26).

For Jesus was the sacrificial Lamb of God who sacrificed himself by dying on a cross for our sins so that by God’s grace, and through God-given faith in him, we might be crucified with him in death to sin and be raised with him to walk in newness of life in him, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. For by faith in him our old self is crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we will no longer be enslaved to sin but to God and to his righteousness (Rom 6:1-23).

And on the third day after Jesus’ crucifixion, God the Father resurrected him from the dead, and after appearing to many people for a period of about 40 days he ascended back to heaven to be with the Father. Shortly after that he sent his Holy Spirit, as promised, to the earth to live within those who were his followers. And ever since then, when we believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit, who is God within us, comes to live within us. And he teaches us all things, and he guides us into all truth, and he leads us in the way we should go.

And one day Jesus is going to come back, but this time to judge the people of the earth and to take his bride, the true church, to be with him for eternity, at which time our salvation will be complete, and not until then. For, we are saved (past), we are being saved (present), and we will be saved (future) when Jesus returns, provided that we continue in him and in his word, and that we walk according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh, and that we walk in obedience to his commands.

“O house of Jacob,

    come, let us walk

    in the light of the Lord.”

So, this is an encouragement here to us who profess the name of Jesus that we are to walk (in conduct, in practice) in the light (truth, righteousness) of the Lord. For he died on that cross that we might die with him to sin and live to him and to his righteousness. We are to no longer walk (in practice) in sin, like we did before we believed in Jesus, if we did believe in him truly.

But we are to put off our old self, which belongs to our former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and be renewed in the spirit of our minds, and put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. For this is the truth that is in Christ Jesus that we are to live by. For this purpose Jesus gave his life up for us.

For if we continue in deliberate and habitual sin, walking according to the flesh, and not according to the Spirit, in direct defiance of God’s commands, we do not know him and we don’t have eternal life in him. For if we sow to please the flesh, from the flesh we will reap destruction, but if we sow to please the Spirit, from the Spirit we will reap eternal life. So, what we do in this life for Jesus or against him matters for eternity!

I Will Wait for You (Psalm 130)

By Jordan Kauflin, Keith Getty, Matt Merker, & Stuart Townend

Out of the depths I cry to You

In darkest places I will call

Incline Your ear to me anew

And hear my cry for mercy, Lord

Were You to count my sinful ways

How could I come before Your throne

Yet full forgiveness meets my gaze

I stand redeemed by grace alone

I will wait for You

I will wait for You

On Your word, I will rely

I will wait for You

Surely wait for You

Till my soul is satisfied
