Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

Don't Believe The Liars

1 John 1:1-10 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have gazed upon and touched with our own hands—this is the Word of life. 2And this is the life that was revealed; we have seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.

“3We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ. 4We write these things so that our joy may be complete.

“5And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7Butb if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

“8If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.”

Jesus Christ is God

God is Father, Son Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit – one God in three persons. And God the Father sent His only begotten son to the earth to be born as a baby to a virgin woman, conceived of the Holy Spirit, and not of man. So Jesus was not born with a sin nature as we are, and He never sinned, even though He was tempted in like manner as we are tempted. And when Jesus was about 30 years old He began His earthly ministry with 12 disciples, most all of whom also became His apostles after His death and resurrection.

And His apostles were given the responsibility to share the message of the gospel with the people of the world and to help the believers in Christ to learn the teachings of Christ and His commands so that they would now walk in the ways of the Lord and no longer as slaves to sin. They proclaimed to the people what they had seen and heard as a testimony of Jesus Christ and who He is and what He did for us in giving His life up for us on that cross so that they might have fellowship (partnership, participation) with Him.

False Images of Christ

Whereas the apostles of Christ gave a true picture of who Christ is and was, and of His purpose in giving His life up for us on that cross, we have many false shepherds of the people today who are teaching lies to the people and who are misrepresenting who Christ really was/is and what He taught and His purpose in giving His life for us on that cross. Many are saying that He is not God, but the Scriptures teach that He is, and they are saying He does not require death to sin and obedience to God’s commands, but He does!

They have altered His character to make Him more socially acceptable, and they have altered His gospel message to make it more acceptable to the ungodly and to human flesh. They are, in essence, dismissing the biblical Jesus in favor of a friendlier and more tolerant of sin Jesus who pacifies the professers of faith in Christ in their sins. They have made Jesus into someone who is teaching what He did not teach, tolerating deliberate and habitual sin and disobedience in the lives of those who call Him “Lord.”

Darkness and Light

But the message the apostles heard from Christ, and that they announced to the people, was a different gospel from what is being so popularized today. For they let the people know that if we claim that we are in fellowship (relationship, participation) with Christ (with God), but yet we walk (in conduct, in practice) in darkness (sin, wickedness), we are liars who do not live by (practice) the truth. For we must walk (in conduct, in life practice) in the truth which comes from Christ to have fellowship with Christ and with one another and to have the blood of Jesus cleansing us from all sin.

And Jesus Christ taught that to come to Him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) Him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to His commands, in His power, then we have eternal life with God. And this is what “walking in the light” looks like for followers of Christ. For not everyone who calls Him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).

If We Confess

This word “confess,” from a biblical perspective, has to do with agreeing with God and what He says about our sins and what we need to do to be cleansed of our sins and to have eternal life with God. So this is not just a verbal declaration or acknowledgement that one has sinned against God, but this has to do with agreeing with what God says about our sin, which must then result in us dying with Him to sin and now following Him in obedience to His commands in life practice. For if sin continues to be our practice, and not obedience to God, then we are deceived and we are not forgiven our sins.

So don’t believe the liars and their lies, i.e. all who are saying that if you just profess Jesus as Lord, or if you just give a verbal acknowledgement that you sinned against Him, that you are now saved of all sins and on your way to heaven. For God’s grace, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we wait for Jesus’ return. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

Christ’s Free Servant, Sue J Love

Oh, to Be Like Thee, Blessed Redeemer

Lyrics by Thomas O. Chisholm, 1897

Music by W. J. Kirkpatrick, 1897

Oh, to be like Thee! blessèd Redeemer,

This is my constant longing and prayer;

Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures,

Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear.

Oh, to be like Thee! full of compassion,

Loving, forgiving, tender and kind,

Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting,

Seeking the wandering sinner to find.

O to be like Thee! lowly in spirit,

Holy and harmless, patient and brave;

Meekly enduring cruel reproaches,

Willing to suffer others to save.

O to be like Thee! while I am pleading,

Pour out Thy Spirit, fill with Thy love;

Make me a temple meet for Thy dwelling,

Fit me for life and Heaven above.

Oh, to be like Thee! Oh, to be like Thee,

Blessèd Redeemer, pure as Thou art;

Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness;

Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.
