1 Corinthians 1:26-31 ESV
“For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.’”
And that would be me, but not just me, obviously, but all of
us who God has chosen for his purposes and for his glory. And the Lord often
uses me in some of my weakest times, like right now while I am sick with some
kind of virus, though I am improving. But when I am weak then I am strong in
the strength of the Lord. And that is important that we understand this, that
it is not in our own strength and power that we serve the Lord, but only as he
gives us strength and he empowers us to do so, otherwise it is not of him.
But you know what? It has been a blessing that I did not
have a bunch of head knowledge about a lot of stuff, because then the Lord was
able to teach me what he wanted me to learn without that head knowledge getting
in the way. As it was, he still had to help me to unlearn some things I had
learned wrong and to learn them the right way. But because my mind was not set
on a whole bunch of head knowledge, there was a clear path for the Lord to help
me to unlearn and to relearn what I needed to know.
I see so many professing Christians walking around with a
bunch of head knowledge but it has not gotten to their hearts. It is not being
applied to their daily lives, and I am speaking here with regard to head
knowledge of the Scriptures. They know how to talk with walk, but they don’t
walk it. They may sound impressive with their knowledge of all kinds of
theology, but in practicality they are not putting the teachings of the
Scriptures in practice in their daily lives. For they are still living like the
world.
But when you know that what you have you have been given has
been given to you by God, and it is not of yourselves, then there is no cause
for boasting or bragging. For you know from whom you have received it, and you
know that there is no way that any of that came from your own flesh. And this
is because you know that these things did not come to you except in the power
of God, and they can only be used of him in the same way. And so you give to
God all the glory and none to yourselves.
His
Strength Is Perfect
Steven Curtis Chapman
We can only know
The power that He holds
When we truly see how deep our weakness goes
His strength in us begins
Where ours comes to an end
He hears our humble cry and proves again
His strength is perfect when our strength is gone
He'll carry us when we can't carry on
Raised in His power, the weak become strong
His strength is perfect, His strength is perfect
