Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

The One Believing and the One Not Obeying

John 3:36 ESV

“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”

Literal translation: “The one believing in the Son has life eternal. The one not obeying the Son, however, will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

The word “believe,” with regard to our faith in Jesus Christ, means to be persuaded by the Lord. And what does he persuade us to? He persuades us as to his righteousness and holiness, as to his purpose in dying on that cross for our sins, and he persuades us to see our sins as he sees them and to repent of our sins (to forsake them). As well he persuades us to follow him in obedience to his will and to his ways.

[Lu 9:23-26; Jn 6:35-58; Jn 15:1-11; Rom 6:1-23; Rom 8:1-17; Eph 4:17-24; 1 Pet 2:24; 1 Co 6:19-20; 2 Co 5:15,21; Tit 2:11-14; Jas 1:22-25; 1 Jn 1:5-9; Rom 12:1-2; 1 Co 15:58; Php 2:12-13; Col 1:21-23; Eph 2:8-10; Heb 12:1-2; Jn 6:44; 2 Pet 1:1; 1 Co 10:1-22; Heb 3:1-19; Heb 4:1-13]

And the verb tense is present and active which means it is both current and it is ongoing and it is being lived out in the life of the believer. And the verb tense is significant because it shows us that this is not a past belief only nor is it a one-time experience which takes place in our lives which then guarantees us salvation from sin and eternal life with God regardless of how we live our lives on this earth.

For our salvation is progressive. We are saved (past), and we are being saved (present), and we will be saved (future) when Jesus returns, which is when our salvation will be complete, provided that we walk according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh, and if we continue to put sin to death in our lives, by the Spirit, and to walk in obedience to our Lord, and to do so in steadfastness of faith until the very end of time.

[Rom 8:1-24; Rom 13:11; 1 Co 1:18; 1 Co 15:1-2; 2 Tim 1:8-9; Heb 9:28; 1 Pet 1:5; Jn 8:31-32; Jn 15:1-12; Rom 11:17-24; 1 Co 15:2; Col 1:21-23; 2 Tim 2:10-13; Heb 3:6,14-15; 2 Pet 1:5-11; 2 Pet 2:20-22; 1 Jn 2:24-25; Gal 5:16-21; Gal 6:7-8; Rom 2:6-8; 1 Jn 2:3-6; 1 Jn 3:4-10; 1 Co 6:9-10]

However, if we are disobeying (present and active), rebelling, being disloyal, and refusing conformity to God and to his commands, and if we are refusing to be persuaded by the Lord as to his will and purpose for our lives, and so we are continuing in deliberate and habitual sin in direct defiance to the Lord and in total selfishness and lack of concern or care about treating God and others with such contempt as to sin against them willfully, then we will not have eternal life with God no matter what faith we profess with our lips.

But we will face the wrath of God, instead. We will die in our sins and we will not inherit the kingdom of God and of heaven. For Jesus said:

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’” Matthew 7:21-23 ESV

By Your Grace

An Original Work / June 27, 2011

Speak Your words to my heart,

Let Your grace and love impart.

Be to me all I need

To love and serve Christ my King;

To love and serve Christ my King.

Change my heart; be like You;

Let me love and serve in truth.

Guide my steps ev’ry day,

As I bow my knees and pray;

As I bow my knees and pray.

Love You, Lord. You love me.

You died so that I’d go free

From my sin; pure within;

By Your grace I’m saved from sin;

By Your grace I’m saved from sin.

Invite You in my heart;

Now I have a brand new start.

Repented of my sin,

So that I’d be cleansed within;

So that I’d be cleansed within.

Live for You ev’ry day,

List’ning to the words you say.

Make You Lord of my heart;

Be Your witness, grace impart;

Be Your witness, grace impart.

Obey Your ev’ry word;

Do the things I’ve seen and heard.

Your word, Lord, in me burns,

While I wait for Your return;

While I wait for Your return.
