From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for
the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” ~ Matt. 4:17
And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers
of men.” ~ Matt. 4:19
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way
is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the
gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it
are few.” ~ Matt. 7:13-14
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the
kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name,
and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And
then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of
lawlessness.’” ~ Matt. 7:21-23
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them
will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and
the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not
fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these
words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his
house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew
and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” ~ Matt.
7:24-27
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth.
I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man
against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law
against her mother-in-law. And a person's enemies will be those of his own
household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and
whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever
does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his
life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” ~ Matt.
10:34-39
“Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not
gather with me scatters.” ~ Matt. 12:30
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after
me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would
save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find
it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his
soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?” ~ Matt. 16:24-26
And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and
said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will
never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is
the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” ~ Matt. 18:2-4
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with
all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great
and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as
yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” ~ Matt.
22:37-40
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you
clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed
and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and
the plate, that the outside also may be clean.” ~ Matt. 23:25-26
“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master
has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed
is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Truly, I say
to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that wicked servant
says to himself, ‘My master is delayed,’ and begins to beat his fellow servants
and eats and drinks with drunkards, the master of that servant will come on a
day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know and will cut
him in pieces and put him with the hypocrites. In that place there will be
weeping and gnashing of teeth.” ~ Matt. 24:45-51
And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and
those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was
shut. Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’
But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ Watch therefore, for
you know neither the day nor the hour. ~ Matt. 25:10-13
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you
cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was
hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a
stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and
in prison and you did not visit me.’ Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord,
when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in
prison, and did not minister to you?’ Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly,
I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do
it to me.’ And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous
into eternal life.” ~ Matt. 25:41-46
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven
and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And
behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” ~ Matt. 28:18-20
