Proverbs 6:12-15 ESV
“A worthless person, a wicked man,
goes about with crooked speech,
winks with his eyes, signals with his feet,
points with his finger,
with perverted heart devises evil,
continually sowing discord;
therefore calamity will come upon him suddenly;
in a moment he will be broken beyond healing.”
This description here applies to many who either profess no
faith in Jesus Christ or who do profess faith in Jesus Christ but who are not
living the faith that they profess. They are worthless in the sense that they
are just wasting away their lives on stuff that is meaningless, that is just
for entertainment or for self-gratification, but not on anything that has
eternal value. They have no fear of God before their eyes, and the way of peace
they do not know.
They are living to please themselves and not to please God.
They are following the sinful cravings of their flesh with no thought to what
God wants from them in the way of surrender, obedience, and submission to him
as Lord of their lives. Their lives are very self-focused. Sin still has
dominion over their lives, their eyes are full of adultery, and their mouths
are filled with lies, and they plot evil on their beds and they do not know how
to love.
Proverbs 6:16-19 ESV
“There are six things that the Lord hates,
seven that are an abomination to him:
haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
and hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked plans,
feet that make haste to run to evil,
a false witness who breathes out lies,
and one who sows discord among brothers.”
God has not changed. He does not change like shifting
shadows. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. What he hated in the Old
Testament he still hates now, for the New Testament talks about these subjects quite
a bit, and the New Testament expands on these subjects and it talks about how
we need to rid our lives of such things as this, and how we must now put on
holiness and righteousness and walk now according to the Spirit.
God is not okay with us continuing to live in sin once we
believe in Jesus Christ, if truly we have believed in him. He does not now give
us carte blanche to continue in deliberate and habitual sin. Instead, he
instructs us that we are not to live like the ungodly, that we are not to do the
things that they do, and that we are to no longer live in slavery to sin now
that Jesus set us free. But now we are to become slaves of righteousness.
The things that God hates we should hate, too. We should not
be those who practice telling lies, who are arrogant and prideful, always
boasting in ourselves. We are not to be haters who wish harm to others or who
cause deliberate harm to others. We are not to be those who devise wicked plans
and who run to evil, looking to have our flesh satisfied with sinful desires. And
we must not be those who falsely accuse others, who sow discord.
Proverbs 6:23-25,32 ESV
“For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light,
and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life,
to preserve you from the evil woman,
from the smooth tongue of the adulteress.
Do not desire her beauty in your heart,
and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes.”
“He who commits adultery lacks sense;
he who does it destroys himself.”
The Scriptures, specifically those addressed to the church
under the New Covenant, are a lamp showing us the truth of God’s word and of
his gospel message, exposing lies for what they are, and proclaiming the truth.
In them we are taught that we must die with Jesus to sin and to live to God and
to his righteousness. And the reproofs and the disciplines of God, which he says
will come to those whom God loves, are to be a way of life for us.
The Scriptures are not there just to lift our spirits and to
cheer us on in our walks of faith, but they are there also to warn us of
danger, and to steer us away from going the wrong direction, and to lead us in
the right way. They will rebuke and correct and convict, and they will lead us
to holy and righteous living. And they will teach us to honor Jesus as Lord,
and to forsake our lives of sin to follow Jesus in obedience.
When we follow Jesus in obedience to his commandments, they
preserve us from following an evil path, and from going after the harlot
Babylon who would lead us all astray. They give us wisdom and discernment with
regard to smooth tongued false teachers who are telling us we don’t have to
repent, and that we don’t have to obey Jesus, and that we don’t have to submit
to him as Lord of our lives. We can tell lies from truth, so we reject the
lies.
In God’s word we learn what we are to desire and what we are
to not desire, and we are to desire all that is godly and righteous and holy, and
we are to reject all that is wicked, immoral, and is harming others. But the
only way we are going to be discerning about these things is if our hearts are
surrendered to Jesus, and we are listening to him. We have to be students of
the Scriptures, read in context, and then we must obey our Lord’s teachings.
If we are walking in obedience to our Lord, and if we are
casting off the deeds of darkness, by the Spirit, and if we are putting on
righteousness and holiness, then we will not be captivated by the harlot
Babylon and all her false teachings and all her allurements which attempt to
tempt us to go back to living in sin and to rejecting the true gospel. But we
will say “No!” to ungodliness and fleshly lusts, and by God’s Spirit, we will
live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we await our Lord’s return
(Tit 2:11-14).
For he who commits adultery against the Lord and who decides
to cheat on God with “other lovers” definitely lacks sense, as well as he is
not walking in the fear of God. He is not giving honor, respect, obedience, and
worship to God but he is serving himself, and he is worshiping his own idols,
and they are the ones getting his passion and desire, not God. And the
Scriptures teach that those who walk in sin will not inherit eternal life with
God.

An
Original Work / September 11, 2012
Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.
Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Men deceiving: we’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.
