Habakkuk 2

Then the Lord replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."

Uniting Oneself with a Prostitute

Who are the Unrighteous?

1 Corinthians 6:8-11 ESV

“But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers!

“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

Today’s modern updated gospel, which is culturally relevant, and which appeals to human flesh, does not require death to sin and living to righteousness. It does not require surrender of one’s life to Jesus Christ, submission to him as Lord (master), nor obedience to his commands.

It invites people to “believe” in Jesus so that their sins can be forgiven and so that they can go to heaven when they die. But it is more like buying fire insurance or accident insurance for your vehicle so that you can continue to drive (live) the way you want, and everything is covered.

They are convinced that they can “believe” in Jesus and their sins are now paid for so it doesn’t matter how much they sin from that moment forward, for they believe eternal life with God is guaranteed them and that nothing can take it away, not even if they continue living in sin.

So, this is a warning to those who profess faith in Jesus Christ and who think their sins don’t matter, or who think that their present sinful practices will not impact them for eternity. This is a strong reminder that lets us all know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God.

And “the unrighteous” are not just those who have made no profession of faith in Jesus Christ, but they include those who profess faith in Jesus but who are still living in wickedness, adultery, lies, and immorality. They include all who make sin their practice. For the righteous are those who practice righteousness (1 Jn 3:4-10).

Those of us with genuine faith in Jesus Christ died with Christ to sin that we might live to God and to his righteousness. We were delivered from our slavery to sin so we would now be slaves to God and to his righteousness.

Body not meant for Sexual Immorality

1 Corinthians 6:13-16 ESV

“The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, ‘The two will become one flesh.’”

In today’s culture, the word “love” is often presented as lust, passion, sensual desire, feelings, and emotions. People “fall in love” and they just as easily fall “out of love.” “Love” is more like intoxication, a high of some sort which can send one’s spirits flying high but is lacking in good judgment.

Those who “fall in love” and who follow their passions, their fleshly desires, and their emotions, and who do not use good judgment, are often senseless, lacking in wisdom, and are lacking in self-control. They are impulsive, sinful, foolish, immoral, illogical and they end up destroying their lives and others’.

For, people who are married will desert their spouses, some even after many years together, to follow a feeling, an emotion that gives them some kind of charge of excitement and/or that feeds the lusts of their flesh. They will leave all good judgment behind them just so they can feed their flesh.

And they will hurt those they are supposed to love. And they will abandon them, not caring one bit what that does to their spouses. And that is because they are being led by lust, not by love, and by fleshly desire, and not by desire for God and spouse.

So, what is a prostitute? He or she doesn’t have to be someone who offers oneself for sex in exchange for money. Money doesn’t have to be the purpose at all. This can be someone who has compromised moral principles to gain something in return, which may merely fulfill his/her lustful desires.

A prostitute is someone with loose morals, who has lowered himself or herself to gratify some kind of lustful craving, who is given over to base (immoral, dishonorable, corrupt, dishonest, and improper) purposes. This person may be one with multiple sexual partners, too.

Prostituting oneself for some kind of emotional or sexual or sensual high (like being drunk on alcohol or high on drugs) may involve the use of pornography, fantasies, self-gratification, sex-texting, or actual physical affairs with someone of opposite or same sex attraction. Or having sex with a prostitute may be virtual with porn stars or fantasies in one’s mind or having physical sexual relations with someone with loose morals.

Jesus defined adultery as lusting after another, presumably one to whom one is not married, and to do so in one’s mind. Thus, joining oneself sexually with a prostitute (anyone with loose morals who is available) can be also in one’s mind or via porn as well as it can be physically. Or the person who is committing the adultery in one’s mind is the prostitute.

In a marriage, the husband and wife are to be joined together and to become “one flesh.” But then if one partner commits adultery with another person, he or she then becomes “one flesh” with that person. And the marriage relationship (bond) has now been broken.

So, don’t go there! Don’t follow the lusts of your flesh. It will not end well for you! Sinful practices end in death not life eternal. Your life will be destroyed, and you will destroy the lives of those you drag down with you, too. And you will hurt those who love you and who you are supposed to love.

Joined to the Lord

1 Corinthians 6:17-20 ESV

“But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

Our bodies, if we are married, are not meant just for our spouses, but they are meant for the Lord. For, if we have believed in Jesus with genuine faith, and we have died with him to sin, and we have been given new lives in him, we are now his possession, and he is now our Lord (owner-master).

Married or not, if we are believers in Jesus, our bodies now belong to the Lord and so we are to keep our bodies pure. We are not to engage our minds, our eyes, our speech, or our bodies in any way in sexual immorality, if it just be in our minds, or via viewing porn, or via self-gratification, or via other avenues of sexual gratification outside the confines of marriage.

For, when we believe in Jesus we now become one with him. We, as followers of Christ, are his bride, and he is our husband. And we are to be faithful to him in all that we do. For, God lives within us, and we are his temple, and we are to keep his temple pure and undefiled. We are not our own, but we were bought with the price of Jesus’ blood, so we are to honor God (and our spouses) with our bodies.

The Lord’s Anointed

An Original Work / December 16, 2011

Based off Isaiah 61

The Spirit of the Sov’reign Lord on me;

Anointed to preach the Good News;

Sent me to bind up the brokenhearted;

Proclaim freedom for the captives.

He sent me to preach release for pris’ners

Who are walking in sin’s darkness;

Proclaim God’s grace to all men who’ll listen;

And tell them about God’s judgments;

Comfort all who mourn;

Give crowns of beauty;

Oil of gladness and thanksgiving.

They will be called oaks of God’s righteousness,

A planting of our Savior, God,

For the display of our Lord’s splendor, and

They will rebuild God’s holy church.

God will renew them, and will restore them,

And you’ll be called priests of the Lord.

You will be ministers of our God, and

You will rejoice in salvation.

The Lord loves justice;

He is faithful to

Reward those who are seeking Him.

I delight greatly in the Lord;

My soul rejoices in my Savior, God.

He has clothed me with His salvation,

And in a robe of His righteousness.

He has given me priestly garments to wear,

As the bride of Jesus Christ.

As the garden of our Lord and Savior,

He causes us to grow in Him.

He makes righteousness,

Praise, and thanksgiving

Spring up before all the nations.
